This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Consumer had vehicle serviced for power sliding door. Consumer complained is that defect was not repaired, and door could crush a small child since it has enough force behind it to shove a 200 pound man out of way.
The consumer is having continuous problems with the automatic sliding doors and the vehicle has been returned to the dealer many times for adjustments however the problem continues, both doors are unable to be opened or closed and there is a continuous buzzing noise which occurs frequently even though the doors are shut. Sliding doors on both sides have stuck multiple times resulting in both door handles being broken off. It is dangerous because we are unable to open doors easily. They have stuck multiple times ever since we bought the van and we have taken it to the dealer several times and they haven't known what to do to keep them from sticking.
3 previous times the electric doors went for servicing to the dealership.3 times new sensors were installed. Last incident 1/28/01 the passenger's back door would not completely close/lock in place, and would not open either. A vacuum sound was made as the door would not properly close with air coming into the van. Similiar to cabin air pressure failure on a plane. It was terrifying as we had to continue to drive to get home and could not engage the door to shut. Thought it might disengage will in operation.no manual override exists for the electric door failure! afraid for family safety.
While traveling down freeway automatic door on driver's side flew open. Consumer was travling at about 65 mph. Since then, consumer has had trouble closing door. Contacted dealer, and dealer said that they will check open.
Serious design flaw: The rear seat power sliding doors auto-reverse only when encountering an object within 12 inches from closure. If something larger, such as an adult human body, is in the doorway, the door actually increases pressure against the object and continues in this manner all the way to closure. The auto-reverse feature does not engage, even when the door becomes less than 12 inches from closure! my wife experienced a bruise when she was in the doorway and my daughter mistakenly pulled the outside door handle, starting the door closing, and there was no auto-reverse. I took it in to the dealer for repair, and was informed that this was in fact how it was designed! I tried contacting both the regional and national Honda customer relations departments to complain, but no one answers the phone. I think this is an outrageous design flaw.
The putruding bolts in the door assembly have been reported numerous times and I was told Honda was aware of this and that it has happened with other vans but don't feel justified in repairing it.
The passenger doors will "stick" and not open from inside or outside. This has happened between 15-20 times. Always in hot weather. Has been reported all times to local dealer. Dealer claims manufacturer is aware of problem and are working on a solution. Suggested and put on two sided tape. Doors functioned for awhile but are beginning to stick again. Dealership unable to help. Is this a problem with other vehicles or is the one I have the only one with the problem?
Passenger-side manual sliding door is "sticky & difficult to open" from the outside. High humidity makes the problem worse. Brought to dealer (krill Honda, valdosta ga) who was unable to correct the defect. The dealer informed us "many people are having trouble with the manual sliding doors."
The automatic doors dont stop closing if they bang into someone, only at the last two inches will the door bounce back and that is only if it comes into contact with something heavy.
Has been taken to dealer 5 times because the two sliding doors fail to close properly. Honda has issued a recall, which was done two weeks ago. Has happened twice since then. Sometimes the doors will close, but an audible alarm will be going off saying that they did not close fully. There may or may not be a dash light showing the location. This usually requires multiple cycling of the doors to get them to close and seal. It happens intermittantly, but often.
Passenger doors stick and can not be opened without extreme force. Sometimes unable to open & driving down the road "door open light " comes on, because the door has come ajar. Inside door latch has also pierced a dent in the body of the door.
When filling fuel tank consumer's daughter was able to unlock the driver's side power sliding door. Door opened quickly and jammed over the fuel filler door, damaging fuel filler door, also caused fuel to spill on ground. Safety and environmental problem. I would think that door would be totally inoperable under these conditions.
Right electric sliding door opens intermittently when car is in park. Of some 20 incidents only 2 have occurred when the engine was running (transmission in park) and doors unlocked. Other incidents ocurred when car was unattended and doors unlocked. Dealer notified. Dealer requested car be left for observation. This approach is not acceptable to owner as problem may take a week or two to reoccur.
The drivers side sliding door on our van keeps getting stuck ajar when I try to close it. I believe this is very dangerous and have had to put a lot of force against it to get it closed since I have two small children in the back seats. I have taken it in to hall Honda to get fixed once and they thought they fixed it and it still does it. The problem is that is doesn't do it always, it is on and off. Yesterday was the last time. I does it at least 5 out of 7 days a week. I put two small dents in the door trying to close it while I was away from home once since my children were in the back and I didn't want to leave it that way. The Honda dealer is acting as if they are not going to fix the dents but if the door wasn't malfunctioning the dents wouldn't be there. I was afraid my children could fall out while I was driving home and couldn't leave it open. I am taking the van back in tonight and we'll see if they fix it this time. Also I will be talking to them about getting the two little dents fixed free of charge since this wasn't my fault. This problems started shortly after we bought the van. Thank you cheryl cepek.
