Sliding doors on Honda Odyssey (van) have the tendency to stick and not open without repeated eforts if not used for a day or two. In many instances the handle of the vehicle broke off. It is potentially dangerous, incase of an emergecy the childern in the car seat in the rear of the car can not be easly reached. The manufacturer is well informed of the problem but does not given it a serious consideration.
Doors do not slide easily, they stick and I notice a little bump protruding from just below each handle. Now the paint is starting to come off where the bumps are!!
When the temperature changes the sliding doors on either side of the vehicle become stuck. Consumer cannot get the doors open. Dealer suggested using a silicone spray on the door seals. Consumer called the dealer about this problem several times but received no help.
2000 Honda Odyssey LX manual sliding doors "sticking" problem solution: A) after attempting to open the sliding door, and it only "pops open" slightly and sticks; B) from inside the vehicle, push outward on the upper corner (of the sliding door) which is closest to the rear of the vehicle. It should push outward easily, and the door should slide open freely. C) apply lubricant to the upper rear corner of the weather stripping rubber: Try silicon grease, or silicon spray lubricant, or graphite powder, or talcum powder. Problem solved. No more sticking when re-opening the previously stuck door. Its probably the physics of the pressure of the door against the rubber creating sufficient friction to prevent the door from "popping" completely away from the rubber weather stripping and thus preventing the door from sliding open.
Since day one of owning our 2000 Honda Odyssey LX, both sliding doors stick. Recently, the driver's side door handle broke. Dealer has only greased the door, which only prevents the seal or vacuum or whatever for a short period.

The child was standing in the middle of the sliding door when it closed without the owner pressing the close button. The owner took the vehicle to the dealership. The mechanic had not resolve the problem.
Problems with the sliding doors getting stuck closed. It would take two adults to open the door. The consumer's children had gotten stuck inside of the vehicle too many times. The dealer was aware of the problem. The vehicle had been in the shop many times for the problem where all the parts had been replaced and adjustments were made.
Rear sliding doors stick and will not open. Dealer has greased the seals many times. This fixes the problem sor only a short time. This is a safety hazard as passengers in the rear cannot get out if the doors are stuck. This has been a problem ever since the vehicle was purchased.
We own the LX model with the manual sliding doors. The rear passenger door seals have been replaced at least 4 times on both rear sliding doors. They stick most of the time to the point we have broken the door handles off while attempting to open the doors. This is a huge safety issue. The dealer has been very willing to replace seals on the doors at no charge, but we are concerned that if there were a need to get our children out of the car in a hurry, that the doors might not operate at all. There are times I have not been able to open the doors at all. This is a frustrating problem - as well as a safety issue. I don't even want to fathom what it is going to cost me to have these seals replaced after the warranty is up. Yet once the seals fail, the doors do not open. Web sites like edmunds.com have significant numbers of anecdotal reports of Odyssey owners with continuing problems with these doors. Someone could easily be trapped in one of these cars after an accident. Please investigate this problem and encourage Honda to find a permanent solution to this issue. **dimsii IVOQ entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**770820
Problems with passenger side power door since vehicle purchase. Door will not close completely, buzzer will sound. Repeated attempts to close door may/may not correct problem. Vehicle has been to dealership numerous times (5+) with replacement of door closer motor, re-alignment and adjustments. Door now nearing end of warranty period and is completely inoperative. American Honda contacted. Consider this a design flaw that should be covered under extended warranty by mfr.
Automatic sliding door on driver's side does not open at all when handle is used. Must open from inside or via remote. Doors make buzzing sound intermittently advising that doors are ajar even when closed contact pads have been replaced, yet problem continues. Sometimes door will not close fully. It closes, attempts to latch and then re-opens partially. Other sliding door has similar issues to a lesser extent. Lots of other diverse issues.
Rear passengers doors will frequently not open, exposing consumer's three children and other rear seat passengers to danger not being able to enter or exit van, if necessary..
The consumer states that the automatic sliding doors had failed to shut completely which caused a buzzer to continuously go off and the cabin lights to stay on. (when the incident occured, the consumer was unable to see as she drove down a dirt road, and almost drove into a dtich) the consumer had gotten the entire mechanism replaced under warranty but is scared that when the warranty runs out, the other door will fail as well, and feels that Honda should issue a recall.
Consumer states that the manual sliding door would intermittently not open. Vehicle been to the dealer on six occasion and the problem is still occurring. Feel free to provide any further information.
While traveling, the highway and without warning, the driver and passenger doors will come open intermittenley. The dealership is aware of the problem.
After it rains or there has been humid weather doors will not open. Took vehicle to dealer, and they replaced doors. But, outside handle problem is still occurring.
