Apparently I’m not the only one with this common problem with broken sun visors. Both my visors were floppy then I bought a device online to keep it to stay up. It's never worked long. Both visors were not disconnected. I have no visors attached. It's very frustrating.

After reading about all the complaints, I feel it necessary for you to replace both my visors complimentary. Please confirm and get back to me for this unsettling problem. Why Honda never took care of this, it is bad reputation. I will never buy another one for sure.

The following describes the problem from the beginning. It is the conversation with the person that monitors the Honda Facebook page, plus a link to the article about the lawsuit, Cooper v. Honda:

I have a 2011 Honda Civic. Within a short time of purchase the visor on the driver's side would not stay up. I took it back to the dealer where I bought the car. They said no problem and replaced it at no cost. I thought it was a fluke. Last summer both visors were dangling in down position. The dealer said it would cost $160-$180. I was further informed that the warranty on the visors had been extended until about 2 weeks prior. The only solution was to replace the visors with another set of defective visors (Honda acknowledged that they were defective when they extended the warranty on them to 7 YEARS)

They are a hazard, eliminating much of the windshield, especially at night. We were Honda fans with both cars from Honda. This past weekend at dinner with friends I described my frustration with Honda, and somebody said they just talked to somebody that spent $160-180 on another set of defective visors. I am not hard on cars and keep them a long time. So Honda expects me to spend $160-180 on visors every couple of years (this would be my 4th and 5th visor) as though they are as disposable as Kleenex. I would think that Honda would give away the defective visors as necessary OR come up with visors that are not defective as a replacement. I get lots of offers and mailings from Honda, and that advertising is wasted. It would be more effective and less costly to Honda in keeping a customer to take care of the problem. This Honda is not going to last nearly as long as most cars that I have driven in my long life. Dangling visors make a nice little car look like junk. JAN 24, 2019, 8:04 AM

Hello Holly, we are sorry to hear that your vehicle is having issues. We would like to review your concern further. Please private message your name, address, phone #, VIN, mileage, the dealership name, and a copy of the repair order (if applicable). Thank you. ^CB JAN 25, 2019, 2:27 PM

I bought my Honda Civic on August 6, 2011 at Honda of Annapolis. The VIN is 19XFA1F57BE050176. My name at the time was Holly Hoebreckx, and I lived at 2700 Summerview Way #301, Annapolis MD 21401. I was remarried and moved to Tucson in 2016. My new name and address are Holly Gruhl, 7610 N Christie DR, Tucson AZ 85718. In 2016 we bought a second Honda, a CR-V at Honda Automation in Tucson, no issues.....yet. I do not have a copy of a repair order because I was not charged for the 3rd visor that Honda of Annapolis provided. Honda Autonation told me I missed the extended warranty by a couple of weeks and that I'd have to pay $160-180 to replace the dangling visors with the same defective ones, which I won't do because it doesn't make sense. I have 44,849 miles on the Honda Civic, as of today. I can be reached at the Tucson address or at 520-297-2332 (home) or 410-353-9965 (Cell). MON 12:45 PM

Thank you for providing the requested information. We sincerely apologize for the issues that you have experienced. This is definitely not the new car experience we had hoped for you. A case manager will be reaching out to you within 1 to 2 business days. Should you need to reach out to us concerning your case, please call 800-999-1009 and reference the case number. Thank you and have a good day. ^CB Ok hopefully something reasonable will come of this effort, yours and mine. 12:47 PM

Honda will not do anything for me, but I have found this lawsuit and will contact these lawyers: http://www.hondaproblems.com/civic-visor/ Civic Visor Keeps Falling Down. A federal court has approved a class action lawsuit settlement against Honda after the popular automaker failed to fix or warn owners about defective sun visors. The settlement affects over 2 million Honda Civic and Civic Hybrid owners and lessees. hondaproblems.com

Somebody replied to my post on the Honda fb page that it is probably the AZ sun since I've live in Tucson since 2016. I do not think so. The first dangly visor happened in cloudy Annapolis. Now that I'm in Tucson, my car is always parked in the garage. I do not work so it is under cover most of the time and not in a parking lot out in the sun.

As far as I can tell, Honda Civic sun visors are made to fail. My parents have the same model and year and have had to relpace their visor once. I am now on my second replacement. The springy-ness of the visor initially goes out and finally they bust along the seam. It is tiresome and annoying.

So I got this car after being promoted to Assistant Manager where I worked. I have to make bank runs 1-2 per week. One day it was real hot out. I got inside the Honda and moved down the sun visor and it broke, the drivers side.

The worst part it stayed down there was no way to put it up, once I stuck it up with super glue but it just lasted 2 weeks.

Then I realize if you close it while gripping down on the back part (the open and broken part) while closing you can sometimes get it to close correctly. But you cannot bring it down or it resets everything.

I got tired and decided to get my windows tinted and put tint bar on my front windshield.

Eventually I bought a sun visor on ebay and watched a couple of youtube videos and replaced it myself. Its actually not that hard. Its been 2 years since I actually replaced it.

TO BE HONEST I HAVE REPLACED BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT VISORS 4 TIMES EACH SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2011. AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE RECALL FOR EARLIER YEARS I HAD BECOME QUITE UPSET. FROM THE PICTURES I NOTICED THE PROBLEM PERSISTS . I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY 2000 MODEL. IN FACT IT APPEARS THE FREQUENCY OF BREAKAGE HAS INCREASED.

As most Honda owners most likely know by now, there was a settlement in 2011 on faulty sun visors. The settlement apparently included Civic models from 2006 all the way through 2009. Apparently, the lesson wasn't learned as I've replaced my visor once in late 2015 (bought an OE visor on ebay), and now it needs replaced again. I didn't include photos on this platform. Why? Because I figured that Honda can simply go back and look at the thousands of other photos they've received from other Civic owners. Why wasn't the lesson learned 5 years back and a change made by the settlement date? How can a faulty visor NOT cause a serious crash by obstructing a driver's view during nighttime driving? It's a VISOR; how can you design a well-built engine that runs for decades yet not design/provide a functional sun visor? (Don't even get me started on the weather stripping peeling off around the windows!)

sun visor broken sun visor broken sun visor broken

I purchased this Honda from the original owner, an ~65-year-old retired lady. The driver's side sun visor was already broken. Original owner informed me it was not the original visor, she had replaced the same visor in approximately 2013. I purchased a stainless steel U-shaped clip purposely made for Honda Civics with broken visors. It worked for about a year but no longer will stay attached. The one and only real solution is to replace the visor...again. Considering the life of these visors seem to be extremely short I believe the OEM should replace it with an improved design that does not break apart in only 2-3 years.

The visors on a honda civic malfunction. Not sure how to describe the issue. They go up and down as they should but then at some point they go down but not up. I've already replaced both about 3 years ago and now the drivers side one is doing the same thing.

I was reading the other complaints about this issue and there was a class action in 2006 I think. Why when I bought this 2011 model hadn't the issue already been fixed. At first I went to the dealer and was told it would cost way more than I could do it myself by buying one off Amazon and having my son replace it. (I can't remember then what that quote was.)

I definitely thing that Honda should replace it no charge. Haven't asked them yet but that's my next step.

The other thing that bugs the heck out of me is that the doors don't stay open. When you're stopped and wanting to get out of the car but are arranging whatever to be able to step out the door closes on you. So annoying!

Sunvisor on the drivers side coming apart to the point it just hangs there. It is totally useless and is a safety hazard. I see this has happened for several years on Civics. So that means Honda has knowingly put defective sun visors on vehicles and created a safety hazard. Pretty disgusted with a car company that purposely screws people over. Pretty obvious Honda thinks its customers are a joke. Good thing there are a dozen other car makers to choose from.

This sun visor, as I see with other years is a pain in the butt. It's loose and doesn't stay in a closed position. Which wasn't too bad for me because I am 5'3 and can still see out of the windshield fine. But my husband who is 6'1 would have to constantly move it so that he could see. Finally the POS broke off. And now, in sunny California, I am blinded and without a visor.

Honda had a lawsuit settlement for defective sun visors effective for only some models for 2006-2009. The settlement allows for an extended warrantee of the visors for 7 years or 100,000 miles. My vehicle meets those standards, but is not a year that is covered under the settlement.

Both my visors broke within weeks of each other with normal use. They no longer can be placed where I want them to be and will not stay up out of the sight of vision. It seems Honda did not care that they had a class action suit against them and continued to use defective parts.

I saw on this site that there was a settlement with Honda for this issue for years 2007 to 2009. The settlement was reached in 2011, the year of my car. It is frustrating that this known issue wasn't extended to later years, since it was obviously not fixed.

The sun visor is clearly built to fail. The points of contact that broke apart are plastic and are in minimal contact between the two pieces. The two pieces that are placed together to house the metal spring mechanism, that pops the visor down or up, could have been fully sealed to ensure that the pieces never come apart. At the minimum, Honda has had the opportunity for many years to fix the visors since the last class action lawsuit, but they haven't. The visors that are in my 2011 Civic appear identical to my 2008 Civic and act identical in the way they break.

I bought Honda's for their reputation of longevity, but Honda hasn't put that standard into their sun visors. Honda dismissed the last visor issue and settled out of court and the problem still exists in their newer model Civics. Honda needs to address the issue and redesign the visors so they don't fall apart after 2 years of average use. As this will likely not occur, another lawsuit needs to be opened up to cover all Honda Civics with these visors.

I had a Honda Accord for 11 years before I got my Civic few years ago, with Accord I was pleased in most time, and I am middle-aged and responsible person, am very careful on taking care of my belongings in my whole life but with Civic Sun visor broke down like this within 4 years of age ( I don't have kids nor pets riding my car with me at all time), I am disappointed at Honda customer service told me the reason was Honda will not replace it because no recall was issued on my 2011 Civic. Civic is a economy car but there is no excuses on putting in a cheap product that only last for 4 years with Honda name, people has faith on a good name in whole not just engine or brake pads etc....

This sunvisor is absolute garbage, just take a look at the pictures. I know a civic is an economy car, but if Honda can't make a reliable sunvisor, then how am I supposed to trust the rest of the car's construction? I've had my Toyota Prius for longer with significantly more use and have had no such problems despite it being the cheapest model.

I saw that there was a class action lawsuit for 2007-2009 Honda Civic sunvisors, and it looks like the construction on the 2011s are the same or very similar. When I called Honda customer service they denied any responsibility for making a defective product and did not offer to diagnose to find out if it is defective. Their customer service is similar to any other corporation, acting only as a wall to customer concerns.

A replacement sunvisor is $45 on eBay. For a $19k car they can own up to their poor design and/or shoddy manufacturing process and at least provide their customers with a replacement for the hassle.

sun visor broken

I have a Honda Civic 2011 car. In January of 2016 I noticed my Sun Visor on the driver's side could not be upright against the roof of the car. Two months ago, I noticed the sun visor was coming apart thus it was not able to lay flat. I was able to snap it shut for several months, however over the past week, the opening cannot be closed. Therefore, it keeps falling down while I am driving.

I have left a message with the Ed Voyles Honda Car Dealership in Marietta, GA, today, July 8 at 9:30am. I am waiting to receive a response.

I did notice on the internet the 2007 and 2008 Honda Civics did have this issue and the lawsuit was settled in favor of the owners, since Honda did not want to fix it. I will keep you posted.
