Car less than 3 years old. Original owner. Paint peeling off on horizontal surfaces. Honda painted some areas with expense shared by owner. Honda refused to paint other damaged areas right beside the repaired areas. They fixed half the problem and refused to address the issue further. They would not even look at the car to see how poorly they had repaired it.

I bought my 2009 Honda Civic from a Honda Dealership, a certified used car, this year in 2012. I've noticed a white discoloration on the back of the roof. I talked to the service department where I got it and said there was nothing they could do because my warranty was up. If I wanted to talk to the General Manager I could and they would, upon his discretion, help me with part of the payment to repaint my car. I would not get a loaner during this time and it would be about 2 to 3 weeks before I got my car back. At first he denied there was a Honda paint problem, but after a little while he acknowledge that they had these problems before.

When I bought this Honda Civic EX brand new from the dealer in 2009, I never knew I'd have so many problems with paint issues. I don't know if it is Honda's quality of paint/clear coat that's the issue or the painting process itself but I am absolutely disgusted. I have had to have the front hood repainted in January 2012 as it is for crows feet forming, due to clear coat failure. A few months later, I now have paint fade on my roof due to clear coat failure yet again. The areas affected include the section between the windshield and sunroof, as well as above the back windshield. I regularly hand-wash and wax my vehicle (with clear coat safe waxes) so I feel that this premature fade is unacceptable.

I have always loved and driven Honda's my whole life, but I feel this will be the last Honda that I own.

I had emailed Honda Canada several times with NO response in 2011. Finally I did send another email January 2012 in relation to paint/clear coat peeling for some time from my vehicle. I was contacted by local dealership for an assessment on my vehicle. I did attend the dealership and it was viewed and photos taken by the Service Manager in St. John's, NL. He did confirm it was clear coat peeling on my 2009 Honda Civic. He asked me multiple times if I had had that area painted. I DID not. He sent off the photos to warranty as he said my vehicle warranty was up December 2011. I was contacted within 2 days and the manager said it was being done and scheduled a time to bring the vehicle in. I dropped the vehicle off at the Honda dealership only to be contacted within a couple of hours to say the car was painted in that area and they WOULD NOT do the work they had committed to. I have provided all information in relation to work done on the vehicle and to date the issue remains unresolved, not to mention that I had gone several months with no response from Honda and when the Manager had viewed the vehicle in January 2012, stated that "I have never seen this before on a civic. Not common at all. Generally only happens when a vehicle has been painted the clear coat can peel." I have since come to learn, this is obviously not the case with all the others I have viewed having the same issue.
