CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends. Judging from the identical 2017 model year, the 2018 Honda CR-V is likely to have at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.
Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.
CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

While driving North on route 43 approaching route 60 in lake forrest, Illinois on November 5, 2019 my Honda CR-V suddenly stopped. And, I mean completely stopped.for no apparent reason. Fortunately there were no vehicles behind me. I was only traveling at 35 mph. I believe this occurrence would be classified as a false positive error. It was raining lightly at the time. My only witness is my wife. I bought this car primarily to drive my grandchildren to school and now have lost confidence in it's ability for safety. This problem hasn't occurred again since November 2019 but I don't know if I can trust our lives to a computer in charge of this car. This is a computer programming error that will ultimately be responsible for the loss of life. Other computer assisted driving vehicles don't have this problem and they must have tested and overcome this specific performance issue. Does Tesla or mobileye have this issue" is it only Honda"
09/2019- traveling the interstate in fast lane in rush hour traffic approx. 79mph vehicles in front of & numerous vehicles behind me. A vehicle in the right lane switched lanes in front of me causing mine to hit the brakes, locking up, smoke coming from the rear of vehicle. The vehicle behind me was in the median the 2nd vehicle was inches from me. My passenger (child in back) safely strapped, had a whelp & burn on right side of neck/chest from seatbelt. Solution do not use cruise control. 11/2019 on vacation the vehicle showed low tire pressure light on the dash, pulled over to check the pressure, all tires were okay. Traveling on a 3 lane busy highway, in the mountains the brake would engage along with the steering, jerk to the left, "lane departure" on the dash. It took all of my strength to pull against the vehicle keeping it on the road. No guard rail on the road. Pulling against the steering prevented my CRV from going over the mountain. I could not have the econ on, if on, the highest speed I could reach in the CRV was 35mph. With the econ off 45 mph was the highest speed the travel speed of the other vehicles was between 65-70mph. This continued throughout the trip. I took the CRV to the Honda dealership once I was home it was kept for a week. They feel like a software update solved the issue. I later contacted the dealership to let them be aware the issue was not resolved. Said they made Honda aware, but did not. I had a case with Honda, but nothing has been done. My emails not replied and the messages left on the voicemails, not returned. I have contacted numerous times, spoken with service representatives and assured my call would be returned, nothing. Dealership stated they no longer will be able to help with any issues. This is frustrating. My life as well as my children are important although Honda isn't thinking the same. Major defects in the 2018 CR-V
Whenever I start my car in the morning or after being parked for hours, the car does not move past 10-15mph even when I step harder on the accelerator. The car will sometimes come to a complete stop in the middle of the road when I step on the accelerator. I have to turn the engine on and off a couple of times as well as drive around slowly before the accelerator will respond.
From 3,500 to now 9,500mi 5 seperate occasions sensor suite has quit functioning for from 10mi to a 100mi till come back on. In all but 1 time (which recurred going to dealer) by coming to stop or restarting engine has returned to normal. Still have throttle, brake, gas guage, lights etc but no functions that require pushbutton or sensing functions. All happened while at hyw speeds. 1 time car totally quit (like shut off with switch) for a sec free rolling at 65mph then came on where left off.
Adaptive cruise control "on". two incidents in the past year the car's braking sytem activated as if I were going to hit something. I was on the interstate and no cars were within 500 to 1000 feet and no other objects were observed. Then twice in the past month the flashing "brake" light appeared on the dash panel indicating I should slow down as I may hit something. Again, this occurred on the nterstate and no cars or objects were anywhere near me. This last incident occurred on 01/01/2020.

I experienced unintended sudden acceleration of the vehicle on 11/29/2019 around 1pm. I was slowing to a stop a a stop sign when the engine suddenly revved up to above 3000rpm. I immediately applied the brakes with more force and stopped the vehicle while the engine continued to rev between 3000 and 5000rpm. While holding the brakes firmly, I shut off the engine and then confirmed that my foot was only on the brake pedals and not touching the accelerator. There happens to be a police officer behind me at the time and he came up to my vehicle to see what the problem was. I explained the issue and he suggested I start the vehicle again to see if the problem still persists. I did so and immediately the engine revved up again above 3000 rpms. The police officer concurred that this was not normal and I shut off the engine again. By this time a second officer arrived on the scene. After consulting briefly, they were about to call a tow truck for me when the second officer suggested that I try starting the vehicle one more time. When I did, the vehicle returned to normal operations. I took my vehicle to the Honda dealership immediately upon returning home. However, after inspection, the technician was not able to identify any problems. This is the second time I have taken this vehicle to the dealership for this issue because I have experienced the same problem multiple times in the past under similar conditions.
3 time while driving on the fwy 65 mph with the cruise control activated, lane control activated, and the distance set to minimum, with no one in front of me, the car detected the car to the right of me and slammed on the brakes, and causing the person behind me to slam on their brake almost causing an accident. This happened between April of 2019 and Oct of 2019. When I brought it into the dealership they said that there was dirt on the milliwave radar, found code P2583-97, I found this to be highly unlikely because the car was spotless. The second time I took the car to the dealership, they said the could not duplicate the problem. When asked how they diagnosed the car they said they drove it 10 miles down a bolsa chica rd. I told the sevice person that that was not the same conditions as I was driving and that they could not have gotten the car up to 65 mph when the speed limit was 45 mph and it wasn't a fwy. Her response was we are not allowed to drive cars on the fwy. I said then how are you do duplicate the condition of the problem. This car has been into the dealership for multable electronic issue, none of which have been solved yet. All I get is the same answer, cant duplicate the problem. I believe this car has had these problems since it was sold new and the person before me turned this car in with only 8000 miles on it for a new car that they could trust. This is a safety issue ad could cause me to get into an accident thats not my fault.
Stalling while I was traveling in traffic. Oil dip stick smells like gasoline is "overfull" on oil mark. Vehicle hesitated and stalled because ok had been drained to a lower level once and replaced 2 times. Consumer stated fuel injectors were replaced.
Vehicle was traveling westbound on I-90 in Massachusetts in the travel lane at between 65-68 mph. The cruise control was not engaged; the lane keeping assist feature was not active. It was around 7:00 pm. No cars in the passing lane. A tractor trailer was about 200-300 feet in front. The dashboard chimed and displayed the following three warning messages: Collision mitigation braking system, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assist system. The first time each message was displayed a chime sounded; the messages continued to rotate through the display for the next thirty minutes. The messages stopped when we got home and put the car in the garage in park. Additionally, the light for 'brake system' (near the temperature gauge) came on. I brought the car in today for service (it just happened that it was scheduled for an oil change); I told the service advisor about what had happened; the technician working on the vehicle said no codes were being displayed. He took it for a ride but could not get the messages to come up (it only happened one time). The service advisor said it was probably 'just a glitch'.
The collision mitigation system part of Honda sensing will automatically and randomly engage while driving, causing the breaks to be self applied abruptly even when there is nothing in front of the car. This is extremely dangerous and almost caused multiple accidents. Honda doesn't believe there is a problem. This has happened multiple times already.
On June 24, 2019, I was approaching an area on a Chicago, il, residential city street where a crew had placed metal plates in the road to cover up a hole or something similar. It was a straight stretch of road on a slight downhill slope on a sunny early evening, with the sun behind the vehicle. I was probably traveling about 20 mph. As I approached the metal plates, the vehicle's automatic breaking kicked in and brought the vehicle to an abrupt, immediate stop. The breaks squealed and you could smell rubber from the tires burning. Luckily, there was no car behind me. Once we came to a complete stop, I tapped the brake and the car started rolling forward. There were no further incidents since then. A similar incident had occurred a few months ago but in that case the vehicle did not come to a complete stop. The brakes activated but disengaged before the car came to a stop. That was on a slight uphill slope, however., going through an intersection. I didn't think much of it until this second incident happened.
Driving down the hwy with cruise control on suddenly get errors listed below, has happened twice. Errors automatically clear after car is turned off and back on. Cruise control and other sensing features unavailable while errors show on dashboard. Errors: Brake system, adaptive cruise control problem, road departure mitigation system problem, collision mitigation system problem. Car has approximately 22K miles.
This is about my 2018 Honda CR-V ex with around 14,700 miles at present.my whole family and a friend went to yakima, wa for cherry picking.on our way there from seattle, wa while driving using adaptive cruise control (acc) and lane keeping assist system (lakas) suddenly a warning from the screen appeared that says..."power reduced - power grille problem" and then we can not accelerate the speed. Luckily we made it to the shoulder of the highway for emergency park and wait for 5 to 10 minutes until the warning goes out from the screen. When it goes out we start the engine and start driving again and after 7 to 10 minutes the warning goes on again, stop and goes again for the third time and we decided to turn off the acc and lkas and drive in a lower speed 60 to 65 mph in a 70 mph speed limit zone.the next morning I checked the engine oil fill compartment and the engine oil dipstick and found out they have a strong gasoline smell.gasoline leaks to the engine oil compartment.when I checked the dipstick, the oil is dripping like water with blackish color because of the gasoline mixed to the oil. I reported it to the dealership for service and told me not to drive the car going to them instead the towing company (aaa) do the job to take it to the dealership.and the day when I picked up the car they told me that the gasoline I smell from the compartment is normal due to combustion. I asked them to check the engine oil dipstick to prove to them that it smells gasoline and dripping like water with blackish color (this is a newly changed pure synthetic engine oil /90% remaining).they did not check the dipstick and told me they can do nothing about it and told me to it's normal.they said it's safe to drive my car. I'm just hoping this problem be resolved very soon.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. while driving 50 mph and exiting a freeway, the forward collision avoidance system independently activated and caused the vehicle to come to an immediate stop. The vehicle also lunged to the right. The contact stated that the failure also occurred on another occasion while driving 30 mph. John Eagle Honda of dallas (5311 lemmon ave, dallas, tx 75209) was called at (214) 431-5997 and an appointment was made to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,800.
I have had an issue with the adaptive cruise control multiple (10-12) times. The CR-V seems to "lose" the car in front causing it to accelerate (if the person in front of you is going slower than your cruise is set for). Then when it "finds" the car again and it brakes suddenly. I took the car into the dealer about a week and a half ago complaining. They could not reproduce the issue and sent me along with no fix.
Lane departure and collision control often engage without cause. Twice I have been driving and the lane departure sensors go off and vehicle automatically brakes for no obvious reason. It appears that it may be falsely reading shadows or wet roadways. One incident was on a city street at about 40 mph. The other was on the interstate at around 70 mph.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. while driving 5 mph with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated. As a result, the contact rear ended another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent body shop for the body repairs. The contact called lundgren Honda of auburn at (844) 224-8641 (located at 163 Washington St, auburn, MA 01501) and was informed to schedule a diagnostic appointment after the body repair was completed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 23,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. while driving approximately 20 mph and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to ken vance Honda (located at 2802 lorch ave, eau claire, wi 54701, (715) 318-1641) for a software update, abut the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact attempted to notify the manufacturer, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
2018 Honda CR-V bought new, only has 475 miles and getting collision mitigation system, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assist problem warning lights are on and we cannot set the adaptive cruise control or use any of these safety features. I've found a blog that has many instances of the same problems and worse to include brake failure. We are taking it to the dealer, brandon Honda, brandon fl tomorrow. This should not happen on a brand new car.
