CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.
Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.
CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I was driving on a major highway at 60mph when all of a sudden the car started to automatically brake intermittently with warnings flashing. I slowed down to below 30mph in the right lane and put my flashers on traveling to the next off ramp, while the car continued to brake intermittently and not respond appropriately to applying the gas. Several warnings flashed, including: Emergency Braking system problems; Crash Mitigation Problem; Transmission System Problem; Adaptive Cruise Control Problem. I was lucky to get to a safe spot without being rear-ended. I am having the car towed to a dealer tomorrow.
The vehicle has a consistent problem where all dashboard warning lights come on at the same time, sometimes when this happens the vehicle enters what they call limp mode and won't go above 10-20 mph. This occurred multiple times to me and recently on the highway where a tractor trailer almost hit my vehicle because of the loss of speed with no brake lights. It has been to multiple honda dealerships where most recently I was told it was fuel injectors. I replaced the fuel injectors and it happened again this time the dealership told me to replace the turbo. Did that and on the way home from the dealership the lights come back on. There should be a class action law suit against honda for this common issue that they don't take seriously. Wait until someone actually is hurt by this problem.
Driving and all dashboard lights come on and cruise, lane assist, hill descent, emergency brakes, steering assist, etc. is all disabled. Come to dealer & they say it-??s due to fuel injector failure which is known across these 2017 Honda CRVs, but they have no recall.
My 2017 Honda CRV throws up ALL warning lights regarding TPMS, Lane Keep Assist, Cruise, Engine, etc...I've replaced the battery. I've taken it to the dealer and they just say we don't know what it is and we would like to hold it for 24-48hrs to do a diagnostic which is $250 out of pocket without a fix. Multiple forums state that this is a consistent problem with the 2017-2021 model years. One common fix is fuel injector replacement, but that only temporarily fixes the issue then all the lights come on again. It's a hazard and since all mechanisms are controlled by electronics, we need Honda to fix the issue or look into it as it's very dangerous to drive when dealers can't even isolate the issue.
The car had just 44,242 miles when this problem started on 8/21/2024. Two months later, the problem persists. The safety systems of the car fail upon startup and remain this way for multiple cycles of driving the car. The reality is that I cannot check enough boxes above because the form doesn't allow me. The following warnings all come up at the same time: - Emission System Problem - Brake System Problem - Brake Hold System Problem - Power Steering System (EPS) Problem - Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem - Hill Start Assist Problem - Adaptive Cruise Control Problem - Collision Mitigation System Problem - Road Departure Mitigation System Problem - Electronic Parking Brake Problem - Tire Pressure Monitor Problem Eventually, after some amount of time or some number of restarts, the warnings clear and the safety systems work again. Then, the problem reappears.

For the 3rd time in 18 months my car has just stopped accelerating on the freeway and all of my sensors go off at once, my touch screen and speakers go on and off repeatedly. Honda here in Reno, NV keeps replacing my fuel injectors (and making me pay for it) which seems to resolve it for a short while and then it all happens again. This is incredibly unsafe for this car to just stop accelerating at 60 mph-?? I drive m ya on in this car. Please look into this there are so so many people having this same exact problem with the same car and same year! Just Google -??2017 Honda CRV all sensors not accelerating-?? And -??2017 Honda CRV fuel injector problems-?? Please please help
The vehicle experienced multiple system failures, indicated by error messages in 11 different systems, including the check engine light. The affected systems were Tire Pressure Monitoring, Brake System, Electronic Power Steering, Vehicle Stability Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation, Electric Parking Brake, Emissions System, Brake Hold System, Hill Start Assist, and Collision Mitigation System. The vehicle was checked with a code scanner. The codes retrieved were -??DTC 0300 Random Misfire, DTC P0301 No1 Cylinder Misfire, P0172 Fuel System (B1) Too Rich and DTC P0304 No4 Cylinder Misfire-?? No other system faults were detected despite the earlier errors. The direct injection fuel injectors and engine design seem to be the probable cause. There has been no inspection by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives at this time. The vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request. There were no pre-warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before the failure, suggesting the underlying problem may have been developing over a long period without detection. When these errors were displayed, critical safety systems in the vehicle were rendered inoperable, posing a significant risk to my safety and others on the road. An emissions system issue should not have caused multiple safety systems to be disabled, as this could potentially lead to a crash or other hazardous situations. This issue is well-documented online as a common problem with the Gen5 Honda CR-V, with many owners reporting similar experiences. Despite widespread complaints, Honda has not taken corrective action, such as issuing a software update to prevent safety system failures or acknowledging a potential manufacturing defect in the fuel system and fuel injectors. This problem is leading to premature and frequent fuel injector replacements. This can also increase potential safety hazards along with risks for injury or death.
My family's 2017 Honda CR-V has been experiencing a persistent issue where multiple dashboard warning lights-?"such as lane mitigation, brake, ABS, check engine, check brakes, TPMS, and traction control-?"consistently appear whenever the vehicle is started. Initially intermittent, these alerts are now continuous, directly impacting the car's safety, particularly with traction control entirely disabled. This has resulted in several instances of tire slippage and loss of control on wet roads, raising serious safety concerns. Despite taking the vehicle to Honda, where it was suggested that replacing the fuel injectors for approximately $1,500 might resolve the issue, similar reports from other owners suggest that this solution may not fully address the underlying problem. The issue began around 80,000 miles without any prior incidents, and I am seeking a more definitive resolution to ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability.
battery kept draining especially if car wasn't used for a couple days. got locked out of car from battwry drain while shopping. took to dealer because brain new battery dead within days. so far found out I have a bad body control module.
While driving warning lights on dashboard display the following issues: 1. Collision Mitigation System Problem 2. Road Departure Mitigation Problem 3. Tire Pressure Monitor Problem 4. Brake System Problem 5. Brake System Hold Problem 6. Power Steering System Problem 7. Vehicle Stability Assistant Problem 8. Hill Start Assist Problem and 9. Adaptive Cruise Control Problem. This is the second time this has happened this year 2024. There are othe CRV owners who have had this issue. Honda needs to recall these vehicles and fix this safety issue. My battery was changed in 2023 and my system was checked but these lights still come on.
History: Vehicle brakes failed suddenly while in motion. Brake System problem was flashing on the dashboard followed by various electronic system failure messages. The problem first occurred on Nov 3, 2023 and was reported to NHTSA with issue # 11553355. The issue was also reported to American Honda (Case # XXX). Vehicle logged an error code. Honda dealership could not diagnose the cause of the issue and hence they could not provide any fix. I was advised to bring the vehicle back if the problem occurs again since the problem appears intermittent. Recent update: The problem occurred again twice in July 2024 under the same circumstances as mentioned above from Nov 2024. The vehicle is now with dealership for inspection. No root cause has been identified yet at the time of reporting the issue but it is being suspected that a fault might be with Electric Brake Booster component. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request" Brakes. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Very risky as I lost an ability by approx. 90% to stop the vehicle. Fortunately, no vehicle was in front of me, I was not approaching pedestrian crossing, or traffic signal. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Confirmed by a dealer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes - American Honda and Hoffman Honda dealership in Canton, CT. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear" Yes INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Every signal sensor in my car went off after 100k miles. Brake hold system, power steering, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure, electric parking brake, tpm, emission system problem, all wheel drive system. Car stopped working and came to a complete stop on highway with my child in it which was not only terrifying but put us obviously in a life threatening situation. Brought it to Honda dealership-they cleared codes and said they could figure out what was wrong because their software was down. Made an appointment with Honda in a different city to check my rear brake actuator sensor as I had had my brakes replaced prior to these codes showing up. Had to have the car towed to the dealership as it would not drive at this point. The dealership put a VT sylenoid in and said it was good to go. I asked about the brakes, they said they showed no issue. 30 days later while on the highway AGAIN with my child, all the same sensors came on and the car notified me to pull over to safety. I brought my car back to the dealership, they said they changed the left wheel sensor and all codes were cleared and the car was ready to be picked up. I go to the dealership and turn on my car, two seconds not even off the lot and ALL the SAME sensors are back on. Now Honda is telling me that I need a brand new computer installed for $1400 to fix the issue, after I already spent $1500 at this point. Obviously I have called American Honda, but this has been an absolute nightmare.
All of the alerts for the ADAS system would all come on alerting everything had failed. This had three times now over a course of a year. Once driving two while starting or parked. After two reboots of the system and a little drive the alerts go away. Also the stereo display had gone black because it lost connection. A reboot fixes that too. That-??s been happening longer. Asked the dealer to check for firmware updates. They said there are five for her car after they checked it. We had it on for an oil change. They told us first it would cost 100, then they changed to almost 500 because it was 5 updates. This could be a real safety concern since you will never know if something has failed or not. If it-??s their software engineers making the mistakes with coding, why do we have to pay for them updating it so it-??s correct. I have no problem doing this myself, most car companies allow this, Honda will not with our 2017 even though there is a setting to do it. I just have no way of getting the files. Please help.
All lights in dash came on randomly one day. Would go on and off periodically eventually they stayed on. Vehicle began going into limp mode changed all spark plugs, fuel pump and injectors continued difficulty with control center every light remains on speedometer is in correct all safety features are inactive. Car is completely unsafe to drive will go into limp mode out of nowhere have tried everything to resolve issues nothing has helped. Entire system should be recalled
All vehicle alerts came on, vehicle randomly started braking hard while driving. We brought it to the dealership, told it needs all new fuel injectors and a VSA module. VSA module is on backorder, no timeline for a new one. Told vehicle is unsafe to drive without VSA module.
Car is parked in front of the house no one has touch the vehicle. The car suddenly started the alarm, had to turn it off. Later on during the day I went to turn the vehicle on and it wont turn off after. I had to search for the fuel pump fuse and remove that to turn off the car.
Parasitic battery drain affects my 2017 Honda CR-V. If the vehicle is dormant for just a few days, the battery drains completely and requires a jump start. I am on my fourth battery since purchasing the vehicle new in March 2017, and have also had the starter replaced when my garage could not identify the issue. When the battery is completely dead as I described, the key fob will not open the doors, and you must enter the vehicle by using the physical key located inside the fob. All doors must be opened manually, and the trunk liftgate (where one typically keeps jumper cables or battery booster pack) does not function, rendering access to the rear seats and trunk very difficult. When a jump is successful, all of the safety systems reset and warning indicators do not disappear until the car is driven for several minutes. Honda has an electrical problem or is using batteries that are too small for their vehicles. I wouldn-??t expect a car that has been sitting for months at a time to start on the first try, but a few days (even a long weekend would be an issue) is unacceptable.
All of my warning lights are on. The above checklist only lets me pick 3 items total but every warning light is on. Brake hold system, power steering, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure, electric parking brake, tpm, emission system problem, all wheel drive system. My car has went from driving 70mph on the highway to suddenly going to 10-20 mph! Super dangerous and this has happened 2 times. First time in March 24-?? and again May 24-??. The reset resolved it briefly but it returned again and again. Now all lights are on and it scares me to drive on the interstate because I don-??t know when it will happen again. My safety features do not work on my car when the lights are on. I have had the codes checked and reset 2 times. Codes P0172 & P0303 were a couple codes it shows.
All dashboard lights come on occasionally, since 40k miles. Car now has 70k. I've had it serviced regularly and battery replaced, nothing seems to work on preventing this from happening. Dangerous if system is reading that there is an issue when there is not, and it affects performance of the vehicle until they turn off on there own. Happens anywhere between 50 and +500 miles, no rhyme or reason outside of possibly linked to remote starter, which tends to more consistently occur when using.
