CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.
Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.
CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

Stopped vehicle to park and was unable to move shift lever to park. The push button on the shift lever had broken. The vehicle could be turned off, but it could not be started without the shift lever moving to park. This problem has been reported by many, many users!
Message "shutter grille problem. Power reduced." When driving at highway speed on a upgrade towing a small trailer, this message appeared and the speed of the CRV immediately reduced by approximately 20 mph, almost causing an accident. I shut the vehicle off and waited (very shaken) for about 15 minutes and restarted the car and it acted normally. The dealer doesn't seem to know why this happened even though I could have been killed by the reduction in speed. (and it has happened to others with crvs who have reported this online.) this car mostly driven in Canada.
I was driving my 2017 ex-L on the highway when the transmission started feeling strange. It was stepping down, then back to normal consistently even if I didn't change the pressure I had on the accelerator. Then all of a sudden many systems started reporting problems on my dashboard, all at the same time. Reported problems were: Brake system problem all wheel drive system problem tire pressure monitor problem electric parking brake problem road departure mitigation system problem collision mitigation system problem lane keeping assist problem adaptive cruise control problem hill start assist problem vehicle stability assist (vsa) problem anti-lock brake system problem power steering system (eps) problem the car lost power as I pulled off the road and shut it off. After a while, the problem codes went away. Honda has tried to fix it three times and says nothing shows as wrong. The latest case number is 09360895 it has happened three times so far
While driving the shift lever push knob button which allows you to shift gears fell out. Upon researching this issue on line, apparently it is a well known issue with 2017 and 2018 Honda Cr-vs. The plastic button breaks inside the shift lever with part falling out and the other portion remaining inside the shift lever. When I returned the vehicle to a Honda dealer, they were well aware of this issue and replaced it under warranty. This item should be the subject of a mandatory recall as it poses a hazard when one can't shift the car out of drive etc. I was told at the dealer that it is only replaced if already broken.

Fuel is penetrating the oil in the engine. Strong gasoline smell is present on the outside of the vehicle after driving it, regardless of distance. Gasoline smell fills cabin while driving vehicle. Problems are occurring regardless of distance driven or terrain. Fuel is diluting the oil in the vehicle in such large amounts that the oil level is beyond the full level on the oil dip-stick. Took vehicle to the dealership, and they informed me that it is a know issue, but that they could not fix it since there is no recall active.
Car would not go into "park" after trying. The gear shift would not go past neutral. The vehicle was stopped and sitting in a parking spot. Fortunately the dealer was close after attempting to shift numerous times was able to move. Took my CR-V to the dealer and they replaced the spring and the knob you press to change gears. They said this was covered by warranty. They had the knob and spring readily available which tells me they know about this issue.
Shift knob button broke off while placing the car in drive from park - now I am unable to shift car to park or any other gear. This car only has 19K miles on it and a year and a 1/2 old. There are many reports of this same problem on the internet and on youtube - I have never in all of my years driving had a similar issue with a shift button.
Push button on transmission shift lever broke and fell completely out. Transmission lever could not be moved. Vehicle was stationary, running and could not be turned off.
The push button on the gear shift sprung out of the "T" gear shift handle after I placed the car in reverse. I was had not left my driveway when I discovered the unusual object in the tray between the seats and quickly realized what it was. The broken plastic retaining clip and a spring were also laying on a receipt in the tray.I was able to place the button back into the shifter and go to work. I have read online that other 2017 cr vs have this issue and one of the Honda blogs said this might become a recall. I hope so, as my 25 month out car has 36,000 + miles and is out of warranty.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. while attempting to shift the vehicle out of park, the button on the gear shifter popped out. The contact had to use a house key to reach inside the knob and move the gear into neutral. The vehicle was driven to richards Honda (13413 millersville green blvd, baton rouge, la 70816) where it was diagnosed that the shifter knob needed replacement. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
The button on the gear shift has broken off. The car cannot be put into gear or gears changed without a tool inserted to push internal button. It was stationary when it fell off, but I was not able to get the car into gear.
As I was parked and put the car into reverse the gear shift knob broke off and I having a difficult time shifting into gear because shift knob is no longer attached.
When turning sharp the rear end makes a grinding sound and will jerk. I believe this is the differential grinding. Was told it just needed serviced at 17,000. I did this and problem was not fixed.
I own a 2017 Honda CR-V 1.5 turbo fwd and my vehicle is suffering from the affects of 'oil dilution.' I regularly have my oil changed by Honda, but I noticed, upon returning from a long trip in northern inidiana over winter, a strong odor of gasoline when checking my oil-dipstick and the volume was much higher than expected. When I brought my vehicle to Honda, I was advised that Honda was aware of a problem for all 2017-2018 CR-V 1.5 turbos with residual gas dripping into the cylinders and eventually the oil crank-case, called 'oil dilution'. I asked the Honda technician to check for gasoline in my oil, but they said no such test was available. He advised me that no fix currently exists, aside from more frequent oil changes. I then followed up with the lead technician at my dealer to resolve the safety concern, but I was verbally told that Honda does not intend to address the issue unless litigation is mandated. I believe this problem posses a major safety concern as these vehicles age and the risk of engine seizure or explosion increase. Honda North America's position is that since there are so few 2017 Cr-vs with turbo on the road, they do not see a reason to act. There is a fundamental problem with this Honda turbo fuel injection system, which was fixed for the 2019 models. A software patch is being issued by Honda Canada, but this is not offered in southern states and Honda refuses to comment on the long term impact and degraded performance. I am deeply concerned for the safety of my family and fellow drivers.
The push button on the gear select lever fell off after shifting to drive. The I had to search the floor where the button fell and place it back into the select lever in order to shift to park. Now the button easily falls off. It looks like the plastic inside the push knob broke.
Gear shift lever button broke while shifting to reverse to back out of garage. Parts flew out. Called local Honda dealer and was told "this is a common occurrence" with that year CRV's.
