CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.
Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.
CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

I afraid of using this vehicle, because you dont know whats going to happen.
Emergency crash avoidance system deployed causing the car to stop. This from 35 + mph. This was unexpected. And we were lucky no other cars were affected. Automatic headlight dimmer is not operating correctly. This is annoyance to the driver of my car as well as blinding to oncoming trafic.
This vehicle has the automatic braking system. On several occasions the brake warning has flashed when there is nothing in front of the car. This has even happened on the interstate at high speeds. More recently last week when driving on a residential street with no other cars on that road and no parked cars the car automatically hard braked with no warning. The weather at the time this happened was a partly cloudy day. At the time the car hard braked I was on a flat road going about 25 mph driving straight. Had there been a car behind me when the autonomous brake hard braked I fear I would have been rear ended.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the brake warning light illuminated. The vehicle resumed normal operation after the vehicle was turned off and restarted. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer paragon Honda located at 57-02 northern blvd, woodside, NY 11377, where it was diagnosed and the contact was informed that an unknown software update needed to be performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,960
We have a 2017 Honda CR-V. on April 29, 2020, I was driving straight on a city street going about 20-25 miles per hour. There were no other vehicles or any other obstacle in front of my car. Without warning, and on its own, the car's orange brake warning light came on and the car was brought to a hard stop in the middle of the road. The items on the back seat were thrown to the floor and we were thrown forward in our seats in the front enough that the seat belts engaged. This was instant and then immediately the car resumed to normal operation. We notified the dealer and they indicated that they had not head of this happening before and that Honda did not have any recall for this yet. This was a frightening experience - fortunately no one was behind us, but suppose there had been or we had been on the highway with more traffic and large trucks.

While driving normally with no traffic or obstacles in front, all Honda sensing suite features randomly fail and trigger a series of warning messages flashing sequentially on the hud indicating a problem with the following: Lkas, collision mitigation, braking, adaptive cruise control, and road departure mitigation systems. The brake pedal becomes stiff and brakes feel unresponsive but sometimes engage to stop the car even if stopping is unsafe, such as driving on a highway with no cars in front. This happens randomly in different environments at different speeds. Rain, sun, hills, traffic, no traffic, but it is difficult to replicate the issue. The sensors trigger a false positive thinking there is an imminent collision even if driving 35 mph on an empty road. It also triggers when following a car with warning tones and automatic braking. The car feels like it is rebooting itself in the middle of a false but self-induced crisis. I have narrowly avoided collisions because the car took over control when not needed, only to turn off all safety features and warn that there is a problem with the braking system. The dealership service department claimed it was a low battery, but replacing with a new battery does not resolve the issues. The service department then tried to claim driver error after deleting trouble codes, with no explanation how "driver error" can cause the same error messages to display on the hud as all of the plaintiffs of a class-action lawsuit say the same thing.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. the contact stated that the rear brake warning light remained illuminated on the instrument panel along with several other unknown warning lights. The contact also stated that while driving there was a resistance to going forward as if the brakes were activated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
While driving on city streets numerous system warnings sounded and illuminated, and several vehicle systems became disabled. Gasoline seeping into engine oil caused these issues which include electric parking brake problem, TPMS problem, brake system problem, brake hold system problem, AWD system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, and emissions system problem. The dealer found the engine oil to be saturated with gasoline which according to them caused faults in the other systems.
26,000 miles had the new car towed and determined brake booster assembly caused several warning lights and disabled the vehicle. 1 year later at 46,000 had the car towed determined to be fuel injector and pipe set off codes and vehicle was disabled. Both times, I had the vehicle parked in a parking lot, was able to start it, but could not move it due to multiple failures. Every oil change I ask if there are any vehicle recalls and they always look up the VIN and determine my particular vehicle is not on the list. Apparently is should be.
When I pulled over my car in the parking lot, put the shift stick to P them try to engage the electronic parking brake. The dashboard showed 'electronic parking brake problem' and the parking wasn't engaged and 'brake' red light flashing on dashboard. And all other systems like adaptative cruise control', 'lane control', etc were reporting malfunction.
Experienced a false positive related to automatic braking system while driving (brakes locked up and tires screeched). There was nothing in front of the car and luckily no one was behind me.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. while driving approximately 45 mph, all the warning indicators on the instrument cluster started to flash. The brakes were applied without the brake pedal being depressed. The contact stated that the failure occurred sporadically for the past year. The vehicle was taken to frank leta Honda (500 auto mall dr, O'fallon, mo 63368) five times and they repaired the vehicle, according to their records. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and contact was asked to submit all the records and bills. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
Mcminnville Oregon at the intersection of ne baker St (hwy99W) and ne 12th St. While driving North on ne baker St and entering the intersection where at least two steel plates were in the road covering construction work our 2017 Honda CRV suddenly and unexpectedly applied the braking system. The electronic system designed to brake the vehicle to avoid an accident had suddenly chirped and alerted on the dash "brake!" and in less than one second the system applied the brakes quickly and hard. Time was about 3:45pm, the sky was partly cloudy, temperature was about 45 degrees, the roads we dry and clear. Only after reading other exact events with exact same scenarios did I realize that it appeared the steel plates in the road had confused the system. Luckily no other cars were around or behind us and the four of us in the vehicle were no more that startled by the event.
I own a 2017 Honda CRV. On several occasions, the automatic emergency braking system activated for no reason. The most serious one was when I went down on a bridge, automatic emergency braking systems got activated and breaking hard. It was breaking so hard that almost stop dead. I was so worry about someone behind hit me. Some of the occasions happened when I was making a exit turn on highway and one or twice when I went straight. Please investigate with other Honda and owners.
I was driving on the highway at approximately 55 mph, clear sky and dry pavement. As I was coming around a curve the automatic braking system engaged, slamming on the brakes, coming to almost a complete stop. No other vehicles were close enough in front of or on the side of my vehicle to warrant the braking system to be activated. Thankfully no other vehicles were close enough behind me to cause a collision. The dealer was notified of the issue although nothing was done as I traded the car in for fear of the issue occurring again. This was the second incident. The first incident occurred on a dry, 2 lane street, with a median between on coming traffic, within the first year of owning the vehicle. As I approached a green light at approximately 25 mph there was an oncoming vehicle on the opposite side of the road, stationary at the light, when the automatic braking system engaged slamming on the brakes, bringing my vehicle to a stop. No collision or injuries occurred with this incident. Also, no notification to the dealer with this incident.
On Monday, October 14 my 2017 Honda CRV touring made a sudden stop on a perfectly clear day on the kelly ave bridge leading into my baltimore neighborhood. There was nothing in front of us or behind us. The automatic braking system came on and the car slammed to a halt. Thankfully no one was behind us. I really thought I had been hit from behind--it was extremely jarring. I called Honda corporate and filed a complaint and am taking the car in Monday to the dealer so they can run a diagnostic check. My service representative told me to clean my windshield as that was probably what caused the event to occur. I was going approximately 25 mph--if we had been at highway speeds and a truck behind us it would have been a disaster.
My first scenario was a week ago I was stopped at a red light with no car in front of me. Once the light turned green I accelerated and just as I was about to pass the intersection my car gave a brake warning on my odometer screen and abrubty braked. There was no car in front of me nor a pedestrican other than a car that almost rear-ended me. There were clear road conditons. My second scenario I was driving on the highway when my car gave the same warning to brake with no cars for one hundred feet. My braked abruptly and sent me drifting at least ten feet forward. Im feeling extremely unsafe in my car at this point.
I was driving with my wife as a passenger on a 4-lane highway (2 lanes in each direction). Traffic was light. We were travelling at about 45mph in the right hand lane about 500-feet from an intersection when I signaled to change lanes into the left lane as I would be making a left turn at the intersection. As we were midway into the lane change, our automatic collision avoidance warning flashed up on the instrument panel, beeped the alarm, and immediately (and unexpectedly) applied the brakes! the car behind us just missed plowing into the back of us because of the sudden braking for no reasons. The weather was good and just a bit cloudy, so weather had no bearing in this, and there was no traffic or obstacles near or in front of us to cause a false collision impression on the sensors. This has happened to us several times before and we did notify our Honda dealer and they said that this happens sometimes, especially in heavy rains when the sensors "see" a heavy rain area as an object. On two prior occasions when this happened, again in clear weather and no objects around, we were almost struck by a vehicle behind us. This is scarey, and I am glad I pay close attention to my driving as if I did not, this safety defect would kill us.
