CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends, & the 2017 Honda CR-V has at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.
Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.
CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

On at least two occasions, I have been driving at Interstate speeds in the Peoria IL and Danville IL metro regions, and the car has braked hard, with the warning of a forward collision imminent. In one instance I was driving west on I-74 at the east most end of the Murray Baker Bridge when the car break was applied automatically, reducing my speed by about 20 miles per hour while there was traffic behind me. No injuries. At the time I assumed it was the angle of the car going up the hill onto the bridge, and that the car detected the bridge structure above. In the other incident, I was driving in Danville IL with no traffic anywhere near me, and the car beeped, alerted that the forward collision was imminent, and the breaks were applied hard. It possibly reduced my speed 10 MPH or so, but was hard enough for my body to move forward. No cars around, no obstacles around. I had no idea what the vehicle detected. It was not raining or snowing, or anything like that at the time of either incident.
Randomly, on at least three occasions our car activated the brake system and gave us a 'brake' warning on the dash when no obstacle or vehicle was in front of our car. I read of this problem being reported in the media and thought it was important to record our experience with nhtsa.
System Failure: Fuel Emissions System Problem and all other warning lights are on. Safety: Cruise control does not function and automatic breaking does not function. Dealership: Yes, the problem was reproduced even after the spark plugs and rocket arm assembly were replaced inside the limits of the 6 year unlimited mileage warranty. The dealership acknowledged that 5 or 6 other customers were in with similar complaints this month. Others: an independent garage inspected the vehicle and confirmed that a warranty should cover this problem some 8 months ago. Indications are a weak cylinder may be the root cause of the fuel emissions system problem in addition to the fuel injectors and pipes. Warning lamps, messages and other symptoms were present prior to the failure and appeared well before the manufacturer's warranty expired. The dealership we purchased the vehicle from failed to locate the problem and did not repair when we first discovered the problem and brought the vehicle in for repair in 11/2020. We recently contacted Honda Corporation directly and they gave us a case number for reference while they review this complaint.
All the warning lights come on while driving. I have to disconnect the battery to reset it. I get the brake warning signal when no other vehicles are around. At times my vehicle will slow down with no other vehicles close to me. This issue could cause an accident if someone is around. I had to turn the walk away feature off due to the alarm continuously sounding. My vehicle was inspected by a dealer for the issue with the alarm sounding. They weren-??t able to give a definite cause and suggested I turn the walk away feature off. The other issues have been occurring since February of 2020 and have not been inspected. My vehicle is available for inspection. All of these issues occur at different times. The warning lights started coming back on October 15, 2021.
The electrical wiring malfunctioned and all the warning notifications are sounding on the dashboard. Tire Monitoring System, Brake System, Brake Hold System, Vehicle Stability Problem, Hillside Assist Problem, Road Departure Migration System, etc... Also, the Emergency Brake engages every time the car turns off. We cannot disable this feature. We have to take the emergency brake off every time we turn the car on. When this happens, the only way to terminate the warning notifications is to disconnect the battery and wait 15-20 minutes. We are concerned the emergency brake could malfunction and engage when the car is driving.

Problem 1: My car has 30,000 miles but her Honda since it is past the 36 months it is no longer under warranty. Problem 2: I feel this is a safety issue due to the nature of the failure and the consequences of an immediately failure rendering the car undriveable. This is how the problem unfolded. I started the car. Immediately "System failures" started scrolling across the dash system including Power Brake Failure. I called Honda service, explained what was happening, and Per the Honda service representative, I was told I could drive the car in. I explained the car would not come out of park thus I could not drive it. I was then told how to manually get the car out of park to drive it in for evaluation. I put it in reverse to get out of the garage and when I tried to stop the car I and had no brakes or steering. I got the car to stop by standing with both feet and all my weight on the brake peddle. I Had towed on a flat bed tow truck into Ed Napleton Honda. I was told by Honda that they have never seen this system failure without "a rodent being involved" as they chew threw the housing and then chew on the wires causing the electrical problem. After about 36 hours I was called and told that they had to replace the Brake Power Booster sensor, "no evidence of rodent involvement" and no explanation of why the part failed. I was informed that before further evaluation could be done there was no choice but to replace the Power Booster. I was told it would be $2600 and that even if it was not the problem, I had to pay for the repair for they could continue the evaluation process. This is 3 X the cost of the part per another source I called. I also feel I could have been killed/injured or killed and/or injured other people on the road if this had happened when I was driving as there was no pre warning of the problem and having the Certified Service Associate telling me to drive the car knowing that I had total system failure's scrolling across my dash.
2017 Honda CRV Touring 19, 647 miles. As I was approaching a red light, I stepped on my brake to slow down and brake for the red light. Upon trying to stop, I had NO BRAKE POWER WHATSOEVER. Having no brake power I could not stop, I did have an accident and hit another vehicle. My vehicle still would not stop as I continued to try and brake. I drifted approximately 1/2 mile from the accident until it fully stopped. My airbag went off and my Honda Link did contact the police and ambulance. I had minor injuries and just went to my primary physician. I do have a police report. At this time it is at an independent collision center, once repaired it will go to Honda for scanning and diagnose. I am told it can be repaired, BUT, who will diagnose why this happened, and I don-??t know why automatic emergency braking system didn-??t work.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while his wife was driving approximately 50-60 mph, the brake pedal was stiff. The driver shifted into neutral as the speed decreased and placed the gear shifter into park. The braking system warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was restarted and drove as designed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where they were unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 34,081.
Our SUV continues to have issues with the dashboard. It shows errors then it won't start. We are rebooting it at least twice a month. We have replaced the battery and had to call roadside assistance. The incidents happen while driving.
I was driving my 2017 Honda CRV last night and out of nowhere, all warning lights came on across the dashboard, including disabling traction control, anti-lock brakes and emissions safety, among many other errors. These systems provide safe driving so they are essential for use, and also frightening to have deactivated when cruising down the street in downtown denver, surrounded by traffic and pedestrians. The car has literally every single warning light on, including the check engine light. Turning the car on and off several times did not fix it and so it will need dealer repair. Upon doing research, I've noticed that this is a widespread issue with 2017-2018 Honda crvs and is affecting a lot of other drivers. This car feels very unsafe if all the electrical systems kick on and off as they please, seemingly at random. Videos here from two separate occasions: Https://www.icloud.com/photos/#0ahxlsvcycstsnvsomnwsma4A other complaints: Https://www.crvownersclub.com/threads/dashboard-warning-lights-on-my-2017-Honda-CRV.215449/ https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-T76546_ds1113654 https://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/CR-V/2017/accessories-interior/all_dash_lights_flashing.shtml
Entire operation system for vehicle was affected causing immediate vehicle failure. Unable to pull over or move out of traffic. Extremely dangerous malfunction with complete loss of control at high speed with no warning. All dash lights lit up/blinking. Many system errors displayed on main driver screen near steering wheel. The screen errors quickly read through multiple errors, including power steering loss, tire pressure loss, hill control loss, etc. The screens were going so quickly and car was beeping like it had low gas. But the only thing we could do was get to the side of the highway. We have driven thousands of miles in many types of cars and situations and this was by far one of the worst malfunctions we have ever experienced. If there is an electronic problem or situation where your car is breaking then it should say pull over immedately. It was no help to flash through an array of features on the car having error. This needs to be recalled!
2017 Honda CRV ex-L AWD, purchased new Dec 2017, about 37K miles on it currently. A couple of days ago- on 1/27/2021- I was driving with my family (wife and two toddlers) on highway route 4 westbound in NJ going about 50mph with moderate traffic, when all of a sudden - brake system failure and all error messages appeared on the dashboard. I frantically tried to brake but the brake pedal was stiff and could not be depressed. I tried repeatedly to slam on the brakes cause the car in front of me was approaching fast and thankfully after several attempts the brakes were able to be depressed and I safely pulled over to the nearest strip mall parking lot with all the error messages flashing and brake system illuminated, I took photos and video on my phone and just made sure we were all ok. My wife and I were totally freaked out cause if we weren't able to stop we would definitely have rear ended the approaching vehicle in front of us at 50mph causing an accident. In the parking lot, we turned off the car and back on and the error messages disappeared and I was able to cautiously drive back home. We are very concerned about our safety in this vehicle if this happens again. Error messages have occurred once or twice in the past in inclement weather and a few of the driver assist features were not working due to the weather. But nothing like this has happened before with brake system failure / inability to depress the brake pedal and all errors flashing on the dashboard. If I bring it into the dealership I read online that if they're not able to replicate the errors then it doesn't exist. Please advise. Thank you.
The safety feature reacts to shadows on the road. This has happened 3-4 times where if I'm driving under a bridge the car will beep and show a message asking me to hit the brakes. I think the car sees the shadow of the bridge on the road in front of me as an object and is asking me to stop/ hit the brakes. If the car ever applies automatic braking, then the car behind me can slam into me causing an accident.
Computer failure resulting in multiple error message's and warning lights. Loss of antilock brakes, electric parking brakes, automatic collision brakes, adaptive cruise control, lane departure mitigation, hill assist, vehicle stability assist problem, power steering problem. Took vehicle to Honda dealer, they claimed software issue and did an upgrade. Problem is back. I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery. A few days later problem returns. Does not matter if you are driving or parked. It has failed while driving and while parked with engine running. Error requires a computer reset to clear it. Problem first occurred over a year ago and continues to this day..
For 2 days (fri/sat) when remotely locking doors, the doors would lock but there was no lights or beep indicating the doors were locking. Checked menus to ensure the feature was on, it was. On Sunday, stopped for fuel, fueled up, vehicle would not start while at the pumps. Clicking noise and multiple lights on dash. Error messages: "electric parking brake problem", "brake system problem", "tire pressure low" among others appeared. I could not deactivate the parking brake. Quick google search showed a jump start would remedy the situation, which it did. Replaced original battery (3 years old) however, when remotely locking the vehicle, the vehicle lights are still not flashing and no beep is heard. Will be making appointment at dealership, but based on past performances of dealerships, not hopeful a cause or solution will be found. I have found Honda dealerships are quick to point blame to the driver for an issue.
My car was sitting on driveway and when I start my car all of the sudden it start giving me break system error problem. So my car automatically applied electronic parking brake and now it's not releasing at all. Also delar told me it happened because of brake actuator malfunction. Also, when I am driving some time it applied emergency brake itself if there is nothing in front of car. And there are many other Honda CR-V 2017 mode that have same problem or similar problem. And vehicle is now out of warranty so dealership want to charge for parts and labor.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda CR-V. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the brakes malfunctioned independently, while several unknown warning lights illuminated on the instrumental panel. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to northtown Honda (2277 niagara falls blvd, amherst, NY 14228) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle stability assist modulator need to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred four times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.
Whenever there is rain or dew most of the car'a sensors will malfunction. The brake sensor are all bad, power steering, low oil and low tire pressure. It will happen sometimes while driving and when in park too.
The car applied the brakes vigorously while driving 55-miles per hour on a rural straight 2-lane highway with no other cars in sight. The only unsafe condition was the unanticipated braking of our vehicle. I suspect the culprit to be the automatic braking system of the car. There was no one else involved. I continued driving after this happened.
I own the car for 3 years and 10 month and did not notice any issue with the breaking system until today on 10/15/2020. My brother was driving the car and the car all of sudden stop completely when start slowly pressing the on brake pedal. He was approaching a bump with steel plate covering the gap on a bridge and start to slow down to 25mph and the car sudden break hard and stop completely causing him and the passenger to shovel forward. He then heard two beeps. There wasn't any car in a close range. After about 5 seconds, he can then able to step on the gas pedal. Sound like some issue with the automatic emergency braking technology.
