Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.
Engine stalling while driving in the 1999 Accord is typically caused by a defective ignition switch -- inexpensive to repair (under $200) but dangerous.
Peeling paint has also been an issue for these Accords. Most of the complaints are with darker paint colors -- especially green & blue.

My 1999 Honda will randomly just quit running. The engine dies and the door locks unlock. It will start right away. From what I've been reading, there was a recall for this exact situation. Do you know how I can contact the company to final a complaint?
Upon inspection, the right rear portion of the front sub frame is rusted and disintegrated to a point where the car is not considered safe to operate. The frame section has lost so much material that it flexes when downward pressure is applied to the hub assembly. The left side of the front frame is intact and fully functional showing no similar signs of rust.
7/8/2013 approaching a stop sign on a flat residential street, the car suddenly died. It restarted right away. The next morning the car died as soon as I put it in gear. Again it restarted. On my way home from work that same day all the lights on the dash came on for a second, but the car did remain on, although there seemed to be a second or two where everything felt like it froze up. Ever since then, I have to hold the key turned for about 5 whole seconds to keep the car started. If I let go right away, the car immediately dies. Then on Friday 8/31, all the lights flashed on the dash, and then the car died completely as I was accelerating on the on ramp to the highway. I was able to pull over quickly and fortunately did not cause an accident. After a few minutes the car did restart and I was able to make it home. I called my Honda dealer in July after the first incident, and was told they would only look at it for $100 diagnostic fee. I had my local independent mechanic check everything they could think of a few days later, battery, alternator- and the last resort they had was the ignition switch. Honda has already had two recalls on my vehicle for ignition switch issues, 2002 and 2005. The Honda dealer was very unwilling to check anything this time around and made it very clear that I would be responsible for paying for the diagnostic check, and that did not seem appropriate given the ignition switch issues in the past.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. The problem persisted and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
When traveling at any speed, but primarily above 50mph the car stalls. I will pull the car off the roadway, wait 30 seconds and attempt to restart. At times it will take up to a couple of minutes for the car to eventually start. Around the same time as the onset of this problem the car makes a grinding sound when you turn the key to start it. The same sound you would her if you were to try and turn the key to the start position after it is already started. The amount of pressure you put on turning the key does not seem to make a difference. The stalling problem has me the most concerned for myself and others.

As you are driving the engine just shuts off. After pulling over the engine will restart most of the time. The problem appears to be in the ignition switch.
The engine shut off twice on that day while I was driving. Fortunately, there was no accident but might have been in a serious accident. I searched the internet and found out some old Honda models had these kind of problems and it was caused by a defected ignition switch. I contacted a local Honda dealer but there was no active recall regarding of this problem. I got my ignition switch replaced in a mechanic shop.
