On slippery hard packed snow and/or ice on driving surfaces, my 1999 Ford Ranger brakes fail to work at all. I have 4 wheel ABS. Just the idle of the engine will move vehicle along, even though I had 2 feet on the brake.
Shortly after purchasing the truck, I noticed that when the vehicle was cold, the distance needed to stop the vehicle was greatly increased the first couple of times I applied the brakes. When cold, even when a great deal of pressure is applied to the brake pedal, I can not bring the truck to an abrupt stop. It is especially noticable when attempting to stop going downhill. I have reported the problem to 3 local Ford service departments. None have offered any solutions to the problem or they deny that there is a problem. Most recently, I had the brakes replaced at phil long Ford of denver llc. When I complained to them that the brakes still took a longer time to stop the truck when cold, I was told that they have had similar complaints about the brakes on the Ford Ranger but there is nothing that can be done until the brakes warm up.
The left rear wheel seal moved out of the axle housing, and caused fluid to get on brakes. This has affected the braking ability, at panic stop vehicle pulls hard to the right. The seal was replaced for the first time at 4700 miles, and has been replaced 4 more times since. The dealer denied that the axle housing was defective. Scc
Vehicle was going 55mph and the engine started racing. RPM's shot up to 6 on the gauge. Vehicle acceleration stop, and there was no throttle control. Brakes were not affected. The ABS, over drive, and engine check light illuminated. Consumer got to a local gas station and diagnostic reading read rear sensor was malfunctioning. The dealer was not notified. Please provide more informtion.
The ABS light comes on, there are codes, the speedometer first stopped working 0-30mph, then 0-45, now 0-65. I have talked with others with the similar problem. Nlm
After putting the vehicle into four wheel drive, the vehicle suddenly stopped. When this happened, the vehicle flipped and ended up on its side. Contacted dealer, and dealer not willing to do anything. The dealer could not find the cause that made the four wheel drive to thump and lock up, dealer replaced the right and left hubs and the seals. The vehicle also had its heating system fixed twice. The rear brake parts also fell apart and were replaced. One person was injured in accident mentioned.
The rear ABS brake system causes the vehicle to have a very long stopping distance. You get the feeling that you are not going to stop in th distance needed. Very close near accidents many times. Excessive front brake wear and repair required.
Problem1: Loud, obnoxious squawking sound from clutch area every time I engage into first gear, and sometimes when downshifting at slow speeds. Ford has known about this problem since 1998 but still has not done anything to resolve it. Problem2: My rear anti-lock brakes always lock up whenever it has rained or snowed. I have to slam them about 10 times to get them to stop locking up. This is very dangerous, and my dealership will not try to fix the problem because they say this is normal. I disagree because this has never happened to me on any other vehical with anti-lock breaks.
Brakes had been sqeualing for a few months, locking up at mostly slow speeds. Consumer noticed that retractor springs on rear brakes are rusted through.
ABS brakes malfunctioned. When brakes were applied over rough terrain pedal became hard, resulting in extended stopping distance, causing a collision. Driver sustained minor injuries. Manufacturer will be notified.
Vehicle is drifting both forward and backward when put into gear, and when vehicle is turned off. Also, braking system fails to engage under wet conditions, resulting in extended stopping distance. Then, brake system would not disengage after start up of vehicle, resulting in a noise that comes from rear end of vehicle. Dealer states drifting does not occur when parking brake is used, for a manual vehicle dealer states this is normal. Brakes have locked up and have failed to release, on one occasion the consumer heard a loud dull clunk sound in the rear axle area and vehicle moved after that. Consumer states vehicle moved back quickly in fast short spurts and then gave way rolling quickly backward, after that is stalled and was difficult to restart.
I purchased this vehicle used (under warranty) in 9/00. I made a trip to Maryland on 10/09/00. Enroute I had to make a panic stop and the brake pedal went to the floor. On normal stops the brakes seem to work fine. I reported the incident to century Ford. They advised me that the system was working fine. Over the winter months on a hard stop on snow covered roads the ABS system did not seem to work. I again reported it to the dealer. On 3/9/01 I stopped to get gas and after filling up I proceded to the fuel desk to pay(aprox.25-40 ft.). I applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor and the front bumper hit the guard rail at the building. I immediatly went to the dealer and advised the service dept. Of what happened. They scheduled it in on 3/12/01 and found "left rear axle too long, drum not covering brake shoes". on 3/22/01 the axle and shoes were replaced. The pedal still will go to the floor on a hard application. I requested that the damaged front bumper be replaced due to the brake problem and my request was denied. Do you have any other reports of this type? thank you for your assistance.
