This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion hybrid. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the steering wheel became hard to turn. The contact coasted over to the emergency lane and noticed that the "power steering assist failure" and "traction control" warning lights were illuminated. The failure was experienced multiple times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.
Indicator light "wrench" came on to inform me of an issue. Then shortly thereafter, a light came on that said "service accutrac" (traction control system). I took the car to the dealer who then told me that the power steering gear had to be replaced and that the traction control had to be reprogrammed. I'm concerned because I see a history of power steering recalls on many Ford models between 2010 to today and wonder if this is a recurring pattern with the 2011 Fusion hybrid model, that is not yet "realized".
Service power steering now and servicetract message displayed, steering wheel was very stiff and I couldn't steer car. My car had to be towed to a Ford dealership and they told me problem was due to a pre-existing defect.
