CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Fusion doesn’t have the same track record of power steering failure as the previous 3 model years. Of course, those owners said their steering failed at 60k–100k miles. So this appears to be a classic "wait and see" scenario.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of interior accessory problems to complain about. By themselves, each is a barely a blip on the radar. But combined, they give you that feeling of what the hell have I gotten myself into?

My Ford Fusion is a 2013 which means its only 5 years old and the gear shift bushing popped off, when I went to put my car in park the transmission was automatically switched to drive. I luckily noticed my car wasn't in park before I was about to step out the car or I could have been ran over! since my extended warranty nor my car insurance won't cover the cost because its considered wear and tear I'm stuck without a vehicle till I find $600 to fix the mechanical problem.

From the day I first drove my car off the lot it was a 2013 Ford Fusion S it's gray. I started the engine and then sat in the driver's seat before I put it in drive I hear a loud thumping noise generating from the back end of my car. And it's still doing it 4 months later non-stop and I cannot figure out what's going on also there is a rusted hole in my muffler. Also often times when I am driving when accelerating the transmission has a huge lag in it and sometimes it sticks without shifting to the proper gear to accelerate, sometimes I have to actually manually shift the gears. And it gets very rough when it slips and slides and makes a big drop which also shakes the entire vehicle and it also impairs the driving performance. And another thing is the seat belt, the rear middle seat of my vehicle when installing a child safety seat the middle seat belt got all jammed up and would not work at all. I had to replace it with an aftermarket seat belt because Ford didn't want to fix it for free and wanted to charge me upwards of $400 just for the seat belt that wasn't my fault that I got damaged I just installed the child seat like the local police showed me to and then once I got it out the seat belt it's not working. They say it's not a part of the recall which I already have 4 recalls on my vehicle that is not yet fixed.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 65 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road, but it failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to villa Ford (2550 N tustin St, orange, ca 92865, (714) 637-8222) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

The contact's daughter owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. While the contact's daughter was driving at an unknown speed, she heard a grinding noise throughout the vehicle but could not pinpoint the location. The vehicle was taken to gary crossley Ford (8050 N church rd, Kansas City, mo 64158, (816) 781-4844) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. While the contact's daughter was driving back home, the vehicle stalled and lost power. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact called gary crossley Ford and was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced at the contact's expense. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Very hard upshift into 3rd gear. Had vehicle at my local Ford dealer the day after I bought it in November 2017 and had some internal transmission repairs done under Illinois used vehicle powertrain warranty. Got the vehicle back 25 days later and the hard shifting did not change, not even a little. Took vehicle back the following day and they said the hard shifting is now normal to that vehicle. The shifting has gotten so bad the front tires chirp when going into gear. I now have driven the car almost 3,000 miles and the adaptive learn has not softened the shifting even though Ford says it can take up to 1,000 miles. Multiple complaints about this transmission (6F35) on the internet.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle was inoperable due to overheating and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to phil long Ford of motor city (1212 motor city dr, Colorado springs, co), but the failure could not be replicated. Barbee freeway Ford (4471 E evans ave, denver, co) was also contacted, but the failure could not be replicated. The dealer confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The vehicle was finally taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission and engine would have to be replaced. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 17V209000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000.

There is currently a consumer satisfaction program (13N03) in which Ford has extended the warranty on the electronic throttle body on certain vehicles. I have been experiencing issues with my electronic throttle body and discovered that my vehicle is not covered under the satisfaction program. I was told by the manager at my local Ford mechanic dealership that the etb were all made with the same parts and he did not understand why my vehicle is not included under the satisfaction program/extended warrant. There have been multiple occasions when I am pulling out onto a city street after having just started my vehicle leaving a parking lot and my car has stalled/died resulting in near fatal accidents since my vehicle was imobile. The other day I was almost T-boned and thankfully the oncoming vehicle was able to maneuver around my stalled vehicle. I have contacted Ford to file a complaint and they have stated there is nothing they can do for me.

My 2013 Ford Fusion titaniumtransmission went out at 80K. I was informed by the dealer that, "upon teardown found transmission case cracked and metal in transmission." Here is the letter describing the situation that I sent to the Ford dealer after many calls with Ford manufacture: I would really appreciate your assistance in dealing with my transmission repair, steering temporary locking, and check engine light issues with my 2013 Ford Fusion. On December 24, 2017, I started my car after taking my oldest son to get his haircut, when my Ford Fusion started to jerk, lose power, and steering locked when we attempted to drive away from the parking lot. I was really disappointed that my car, at such a young age, started to act up, but somewhat grateful it happened prior to leaving town on December 26th. My car has been at the dealership since December 26th, and I was finally informed of the hefty cost of the repairs this week (25 days later), for a new transmission. As you may understand, this is very discouraging because I only need nine more payments to pay off the car and don't understand why the transmission suddenly gives out and the steering temporarily locks before paying off the car. I'm perplexed by the denial from the Ford manufacture company to assist in this matter since this is a transmission product issue. Please explain, because I have several concerns: Is this the typical shelf life of a 2013 Ford Fusion transmission" if not, then it would appear to be a manufacture defect. If so, then the transmission and product of this make and model is not of good quality. Is the damage from a cracked transmission or the gears are defaulting to 5th gear or both? we would really appreciate you looking into this matter and assist with paying the costs of the transmission malfunction. What other solutions or recommendations do you have available"

Transmission has had problems since 16,000 miles when I first bought the car. Had it in many times for issues with the transmission not shifting properly at high way speeds. Would slow down and move over to passing lane and speed up and it would jerk. Park to drive and park to reverse would also have the same issues. 3 dealers later they finally found solenoids and another part was bad (about 90,000 miles) for someone to finally find the problem. Had it back in 3 months later to have the same parts replaced again as they went out. Just took it in Nov. 2017 a year later and am being told the transmission is better off being replaced. I complained every 5,000 miles at oil changes to the dealer about the problem that should have been caught under warranty. I'm now stuck without being able to drive my car due to $3,000 estimate for what is wrong that they know of before opening the transmission up which could result in more $$ or pay $5,000 for a remanufactured one.

On way to work I on the morning of 10-12-17 going about 75mph on interstate and all the sudden there was a ding and flash of red (check engine light) on the dashboard stating engine overheating and engine shut down and car basically went into neutral. I lost all power, radio, lights etc. With the momentum I had built up going 75 I was able to make it across the 4 lanes to the shoulder. An Ohio state trooper stopped to assist and was dumb founded when he say there was no power, the car would not turn on. I called the dealership spoke with jay and advised that car was being towed in. Service department at Ford is stating that it's a safety feature to stop fire from happening, but honestly how safe is to have the engine and all electrical power completely shut down on interstate. It was a matter of seconds between ding, light and loss of power. Car was towed in using my aaa membership on a flatbed to Liberty Ford in brunswick, Ohio. I was advised later that day that it was the water pump and had nothing to do with the sensor that was recalled. I had to use pto for work on Thursday and car was ready for pick up on 10-13-17 around lunch time. On 10-13-17 I had to leave work early to get to dealership before they closed at 6pm otherwise I would be charged $50 for the loaner if returned on Saturday morning. I picked up my car and it cost me @$107 for the deductible since they are stating it had nothing to do with the recall and that it was the water pump. On the afternoon of 10-14-17 (@ 12:30-12:45pm) driving in medina area on way to event with niece in the car the check engine light came on again. See attached for full complaint and docs

Car started rolling forward after engine was started in parking lot, even though gear shift was in "park", emergency brake was engaged, and foot brake was being pressed. Steering was unresponsive. After engine was stopped and restarted (without having to press the foot brake as one usually does), car seemed to operate normally. Dealer subsequently replaced power steering assembly, but could not duplicate forward rolling event..

2013 Ford Fusion. Started hard shifting approx. 3 weeks ago. You can be driving at high rate of speed (55 to 75) mph and the transmission will hard shift and loose acceleration. Pressing on the gas does not accelerate the vehicle. The vehicle will gradually slow down. The RPM's will rev up. Even putting the vehicle in manual shift mode did not shift. Several times had to pull to the side of the road on the highway and let it set for a few minutes. Of course the vehicle did the same thing about 5 miles down the road. Called the dealership and was advised they are having these kind of issues with this vehicle and it sounds like the shifting module. Stated its under warranty for 60 thousand miles. My vehicle is just a little over 58 thousand miles. Cant believe Ford is having this issue. Very dangerous on the highway. Vehicle goes to dealership 10-2-2017

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. While driving at a low speed, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver and a "power steering assist fault" message appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic plugged the vehicle to a machine, but the diagnosis was unknown. The contact called winner Ford (856-428-4000 located at 250 haddonfield-berlin rd, cherry hill, NJ 08034) where the dealer stated that the vehicle was included in an unknown recall, but there was a fee for diagnosing the vehicle. The contact then called ace Ford (856-845-6600 located at 487 mantua pike, woodbury, NJ 08096) where the dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall for the failure; however there was a recall on the seat belts. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that a recall for the power steering was completed in 2015 and the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000...updated 10/25/17

While traveling though the mountains of West Virginia suddenly the temperature began to steadily increase to where the gauge was halfway between normal and hot. I slowed the vehicle from the speed limit to about 55mph which brought the temperature back to normal. As we continued on the trip the temperature would spike and go back to normal with decreased speed. After the initial spike was noticed I plugged a data logger into the car to record engine temperature and monitor more closely. The temperature seems to be very erratic and several times reached a temperature of 233 degrees before I decreased speed again. This seems to be very hot for an engine to be getting and is greatly concerning considering the most recent recall on overheating and potential fire. I am confident that the vehicle would have overheated and broken down if I had not taken action as it did a year prior when it was supposedly fixed.

Transmission shifts rough from 1st>2nd gear and very harsh from 2nd>3rd gear. Also at times, when pressing the gas to accelerate quickly, the transmission will not shift or do anything, it just sits there and thinks for a few seconds and then slams into gear. This is all happening when in motion. It is also jerky at times when taking off from a stop. When shifting from park to reverse the vehicle slams into gear causing a harsh jolt after the vehicle has sat greater than 4 hours. I have been to a local Ford dealership on four occasions. The technicians claim this is normal for the 2013 Fusion.

The test drive on my Ford went smoothly. However, later that month my vehicle began shifting hard. It revs and the engine pulls. I have to barely accelerate to get it to shift even then it shifts extremely hard. I informed the local Ford dealership of the issue and I was told that all of the 1.6 ecoboost models like mines shift hard. That is ridiculous. This issue was never fixed. I also experienced another issue: My gas tank door did not operate correctly. It felt like a spring came out because the door would blow open while I am driving.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact heard an abnormal noise while driving the vehicle. The dealer replaced the battery, but it failed to correct the noise. While making a turn, there was a sudden loss of power and a warning indicator randomly illuminated for run power and the vehicle stalled several times without warning. The contact had to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road. The contact had to restart the vehicle a few times due to the failure. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in service campaign number: 14N02 to address the PCM reprogramming. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
