CarComplaints.com Notes: Power steering problems started rearing their ugly head in the 2010 Fusion, so you'd think Ford had plenty of time to make sure those problems didn't creep into the 2012. But here we are.
And much like the power steering, we’re still seeing the same throttle body failures that started in 2010 continue in 2012.

Takata: My power steering has gone out about ocbter of 2017 and I've been to a few mechanics and they have told me that theirs been recalls on this type of vehicle of their power steering going out and to take it to a dealership and that they can fix it for free because it's one of the recalls list online and I've tried calling them and letting know that their has been reports of recalls on the power steering but they keep telling me that's there's no recalls on my vehicle and from my understanding that this is a serious situation and needs to be addressed and fix due to the recalls to these vehicles. It went out while I was in motion on the road.
Recall 15S18 steering gear, while driving the steering while turning the make a noise. Took it to jim click Ford because a code didn't show on dash Ford will not cover the cost to replace the steering gear which is the issue with the car. So we are unable to drive the car it is dangerous/ unsafe to drive the vehicle. The steering make noise when in motion, stationary on street and highway when turning the steering wheel. NHTSA #1227804 /Ford case#14458165
The power steering assist fault message appeared in the odometer display. This could not be reset by turning off the ignition for 10 seconds and turning on the ignition again. This message has been intermittent for 6 months. It would appear often with first start up on rainy and rainy on cold days. Never occurred while driving. I drove the car to a local repair shop. The steering takes a great effort to turn the wheel. Had a near miss accident with wood trash on the highway. The repair shop said this could be covered by an extended recall. The Ford dealers we called said their system was down not able to check VIN for recall. It has about 83000 miles and 6 years old. The steering failure is a significant safety defect. I've driven cars before without power steering - easy compared to this fail. This failure is extremely unsettling feeling when trying to make a curve or turn. Check back later to see if Ford repaired this.
Error code C1277 power steering failure. Driving down the hwy power steering failure light/warning comes on and power steering goes out. Took everything in my power to keep the car between the lines. This is very unsafe for it makes the vehicle very unsafe to drive.

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 45 mph, the "power steering assist fault" and "service advance track" warning messages displayed and the power steering suddenly malfunctioned. The steering wheel became difficult to turn. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer (brookland Ford in brookland, mi) were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 97,000.
Complete loss of power steering on the highway. Almost caused a severe, deadly accident. Was able to pull the car over and get towed home. Had a mechanic check it out and everything looks fine, started up and power steering has returned. I am too afraid to drive my vehicle now, so I am carpooling to work. Please issue a recall, many Fusion are having this issue, yet no recall on my VIN! that is wrong. Ford is aware of the problem.
This is the third time my steering has locked up on my car while driving. This is a big safety hazard! this part on Ford Fusion was recalled a couple years back and this part ihave been fixed by Ford dealerships multiple times. If a part is under recall and fixed why do I have T continue to keep getting the same issue fixed!
The first time my power steering went out was when I was turning onto a busy intersection and was almost hit by two cars that were going pretty fast. I was able to drive it to a nearby Ford service center and the fixed three recalls: The throttle body, the powertrain, and power steering. Not even 8 months later, those same three issues went out again. The power steering went out when I was on the highway going 70 mph. I ended up spinning and damaged my front bumper trying to pull over and be safe.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 40 mph, the power steering warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle became difficult to steer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (oc welch Ford Lincoln, 4920 independence blvd, hardeeville, SC 29927) where the contact was advised that she would have to pay to have the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer opened a case and advised the contact to call her local dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 168,000.
Power steering went out. I bought the car from a used dealership and was never informed about the recall. When I brought the car into a dealership there informed me to call Ford, when I did my car was at 151,000 miles. Ford is refusing to fix the problem. I purchased the car with 101,000 miles on it. Ford is not very good at informing there customers about recalls
The "power steering assist fault" warning flashing on 2012 Ford Fusion upon turning on vehicle, experienced a power steering failure and steering wheel was extremely tough to turn.
After my wife stopping to fill up the gas tank, she started the car again to find out that the power steering failure message appeared on the dash. She couldn't move the steering wheel, luckily there was a parking spot right in front of her. She was able to get it towed to a Ford facility, she had to get a rental car and wait 3 days before Ford could look at it. After they looked at it they said the part that broke was part of a recall (15S18) that was fixed a year previously and that it broke again. She was told the part would have to be replaced again but it would cost $1613, not covered under the recall. After she told me this I contacted Ford customer service, they said they would look into it. A couple of days later they said they could not replace it again under the recall. I had to fork over $1613 to repair the recalled part. Seriously this is a safety issue, the recalled part didn't do what it was supposed to do. If my wife was driving during the steering lockup instead of at a gas station serious problems could have occurred, like a major accident. I'm not the only one who has had this problem, I've read about more people having the same issue about the recalled part. NHTSA needs to force Ford to have another recall on 15S18, before a serious accident or fatality happens.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. After starting the vehicle, the steering column seized as a 'don't drive the vehicle" warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was unable to be driven. The vehicle was towed to crown motors (555 cypress ave, redding, ca) where it was diagnosed that the steering wiring was corroded and needed to be cleaned. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 59,411.
The electric power stearing went out while I was driving on the highway going 70 mph and pulled me off to the side of the highway and blew out my tire.
The dash on my car reads 'power steering assist fault.' The recall is for 'epas steering efforts' this recall was performed once on my car already back in 2015, however the dealership only reprogram the module. They never the defective parts, which means they only half did the job. Now my car actually has power steering failure and the same error is coming up on the dash. I reached out to the dealership and they told me that I would be responsible for the cost and that the repair is out of warranty and the recall is closed. So I called the hoe office who said E they would look into it. Now after a day I have been informed that the home office will not enforce the recall to make the dealership fix it correctly. I know that the epas recall covers many parts in the power steering. I feel like it should have been fixed right the first time. And that they are just trying to get out of responsibility. Attached is the response from the home office of Ford.
The advancetrac and epas (electronic power assist steering) failure warnings have come on. It is actually "service advancetrac" and "service power steering now". this failure occurred while was my wife was driving her 2012 Ford Fusion. She was making a left turn and the steering went out (steering became very difficult). Apparently, it went into manual mode. There is a recall for this problem however our car was not included as part of the recall even though it was made in the same Mexico plant with the same model year plus it is a 4 cylinder 2.5L engine (not the 3.5L). Ford does not want to own up that this is their problem. Instead, it will be a $1900 fix for us to update software and/or replace epas. Our car was manufactured a month after the February 2012 end window for the recall. The vehicle drifts incredibly to the left. Just recently, I had to replace just the front LH tire as the steel radial was exposed and the tire bulged. This was due to the uneven wear exerted by the epas issue. We do not have the deep pockets to get this resolved. We need help from NHTSA and Ford to extend the recall to all 2012 Ford Fusion. I would like to see the dfmea on this car specifically the steering system from TRW.
I was getting in my car to leave walmart, Saturday 2/3/2018 when a warning flashed on my dashboard saying "power steering assist fault" thats when I realized I had no power steering. I then had to have my car towed to my house first then Monday 2/5/2018 to long lewis Ford.
While driving the service power steering and service advancetrac warning show up in the display. We made it home with no loss of power steering. The next morning started the car and now warning light say service power steering now. There is now a complete loss of power steering. I went on internet and seen a recall (15S18) for epas steering and found out it was only for cars manufactured up until 2/28/2012 and according to our VIN# our vehicle was manufactured 3/23/2012. I took it to a local Ford dealership for diagnosis and they recommend replacing the epas steering gear
While driving today, the power steering stopped providing support. Advancetrac and power steering failure now display in the message center. I almost hit a pedestrian as the ps failed as I was making a LH turn. When the assit failed, the car straightened out and I was headed right for a person standing on the curb
