CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

Had my Fusion parked in my garage when the drivers coil spring broke / collapsed. Took coil and strut assay to local MA Ford dealer and asked about any warranty or help from Ford, they told me this issue wasn't covered by any recalls and that I would assume responsibility for the repairs. Knowing that one coil spring broke I went home and removed the pass side coil / strut assembly and found that coil broken and ready to collapse as well. I am a professional mechanic and I can't believe that this issue isn't a huge safety warning to Ford and the public. I have just ordered $600 worth of parts to repair my car, it would be a lot more if I had a garage repair this. I bought this car not only on the reputation of reliability but also for the safety in crash tests and all the air bags that are probably being recalled shortly. I will now go check my rear coils as I don't trust these parts any longer. If Ford wants to have repeat customers they ought to keep our families safe and alive to that we can continue to purchase their products!!

While parked in my garage, the car made a very loud bang. I looked at the car to find the front drivers wheel way up into the fender well. I thought it might have been a broken ball joint. Once the car was lifted, I found the coil spring had snapped, just sitting there!! I also found that it had been broken in two spots as on one break it was rusted and the new break was fresh. My family drives the car a lot and I am so thankful that it happened in my garage, we could have been killed!! I am off now to see how much this is going to set me back. I think this is a safety issue that Ford should address and that others should know about.

Sitting with the vehicle in park, in a parking lot. When the shifter was moved into drive, a power steering fault error flashed in the messaged center along with a "service advancetrac" error. Ultimately lost full function of the power steering. The car sat in my drive way while I first tried to see if there was an easy fix I could do myself. After 3 days of sitting in my drive way the cars power steering was mechanically frozen, and I was unable to drive the vehicle at all, even without power steering. I towed the vehicle to a shop where the entire steering rack was replaced, after parts labor and a new alignment the total cost was between 1600 and 1700 dollars.

I lost my power steering in my 2010 Fusion. I took it to the dealer (thinking I had a warranty on it) to get it fixed. They told me that they flashed the computer and it came back with a hard fault and the whole rack need to be replace. Not having the money I picked up the car and it worked fine. Drove it for a week then at the same spot in the road it went out again. Called another dealer closer to work too see if I could have it reflashed to hopefully reset it again but they told me once it was flashed that they couldn't do it again. I really hope this gets resolved. Now I replaced it with a used one and have not had a problem since.

While driving home on highway at 50 mph the car suddenly alarmed service advancetrac and power steering now. My steering wheel locked on me. Thank god it didn't cause an accident. I called a Ford dealer they suggested I pull over try turning the car off and starting it again to see if message would disappear it didn't. they told me I would have to bring it in to be serviced. Just for them to look at it it's $130. When I looked on internet I seen that there has been multiple complaints about this but no recalls. I also seen that it is very costly and the problem recurs. Why no recalls yet?

I went to pick up my car from the Ford dealership after dropping it off, again, on Friday, 12/27 to fix the same exact issue I brought it in for the day before. The steering got incredibly stiff and the "service power steering now" light came on as well as the "service advancetrac" light. The first time they replaced the steering rack. Second time they blamed the wiring. I brought the car in today 12/31 but they were closed so I can't wait to see what they are going to try to fix when they open back up on Jan 2nd. I have not been able to drive this car for almost a week now and I wont be able to any time soon I feel.

I own a 2010 Ford Fusion SE. Six weeks prior to November 13, 2013, the vehicle would sporadically shake or sometimes jerk! on the evening of November 13th, I was driving a short distance from home in the dark. I came to complete stop at a very busy intersection and the vehicle began to shake violently three times and then the engine stalled! I was stuck at a right turn lane with no place to pull over or to let any cars go by! in fact many drivers behind me were very impatient honking their horns and squeezing by around the corner! as I was panicking I noticed the battery and oil light on and did not noticed any other idiot lights on. I pressed on the accelerator and could not move, I noticed I could put the car in gear and luckily I was able to start the vehicle! I was able drive around the corner into the gas station, and all of a sudden the vehicle's transmission jerked and made a loud "clunk" noise while accelerating lightly, the vehicle "surged" thru the gas station, finding myself at a fast speed I had to slam on the brakes! that evening I went onto the internet and saw hundreds of complaints on the "electronic throttle body!" all of these customers had the same experience or very similar to mine! I was very scared to drive the car twenty miles to a local dealership. Fortunately the vehicle made it there without stalling. The technicians ran a test on the "electronic throttle body"and to my surprise the vehicle passed with flying colors. Also one of the technicians took the car home to see if it would happen again so the extended warranty would cover this expense with a rental car! for the safety of myself and others the "electronic throttle body" was replaced at my expense of $430. I knew the problem would not disappear or go away or improve and nobody's life is worth a few hundred dollars!

2010 Ford Fusion sel. Customer writes in regards to continued transmission problems. The consumer stated the transmission would slip harshly and hesitate on acceleration. The recall repair did not correct the transmission problems. It was determined that the valve body and solenoid body were defective. Also, one of the tires was leaking air, there was an issue with the traction and brakes. There were noises coming from the front of the vehicle. The steering wheel would not lock into place, the cd player did not work at times, the driver side visor did not stay in place, the gas over flow tube was inoperative, the vehicle would pull hard when the brake was applied. The rear driver's side door had to be slammed extremely hard, in order to close it. The driver's side seat belt was backwards. The passenger side windshield wiper dragged on the windshield and the vehicle would sometimes surge on its own. Each time the consumer went to the dealer about certain problems, she was told no problems were found.

I had not had any issues with my car, but I left my house to drive my daughter to tumbling which was 7 miles from my house. I was about 3 miles from my home when a warning sound and the lights on my dashboard stated check power steering. I assumed that I needed power steering. I arrived at tumbling, parked for an hour. When I started the car a new message was on the dash stating service power steering now and service advance autotrac. I put the car in reverse and backed up, but when I turned the steering wheel it was locked, I could barely move the wheel. I was blocking the traffic in the parking lot and had to pull forward and park. I turned the car off and on and received the same message. Therefore I was stranded in the parking lot. We took the car to a Ford service dept. They told us that this is an issue that they have been having with Ford Fusion as well as other Ford but there was no recall. I paid for them to perform a diagnostic test the results were that they would have to replace the steering panel for $1500 and the part was on back order, but first they reset the codes, and the power steering warning was gone the car test drove and drove home fine. The next morning I left to take my daughters to school and the same cycle of events happened I was afraid to turn the car off when I dropped them off at school so that I would not be stranded. I kept the car on and drove the car to the dealership where I purchased the car paid again for a test and was told the same thing. I told them to repair the car. I called Ford co. And they told me that they were not aware of this issue and although I saw numerous complaints on the internet they were not true. Meanwhile my car is ready and I have to come up with 1500 for an issue that Ford knows they are having problems with. I am afraid my car will have problems again, this is a safety issue when it comes to steering.
