CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

The steering stopped moving and an error was displayed on the dash board "power steering assist fault". luckily I was stopped at a traffic signal. I switched off the car and restarted abd the error went away and I was able to drive. Then a day later, I was trying to start the car and same thing happened. Only this time even switching off and on the car. And the streering wont move at all. The first time this happened I was on the road. It is scary to have the steeering lock up while driving.

According to the aaa repair facility (whom I trust), the hydraulic fluid within my 2010 Ford Fusion's electric rack and pinion assembly (a.K.a., the steering gear) has leaked out of the unit, most likely the result of faulty seals. They indicate that the assembly must be replaced prior to complete failure of the existing unit that would ultimately result in the abrupt and complete loss of power steering, posing a potential catastrophic risk of life and limb. The observed symptoms thus far have been erratic behavior while braking (the trigger for the aaa analysis) - the result of the leaked hydraulic fluid spraying the front brakes. I've discovered that the previous recall investigation for this 2010 Ford Fusion issue resulted in the recall of 2011 and 2012 Ford Fusion, but not the 2010 Ford Fusion. I also discovered that the 2010 Ford Fusion investigation has been re-opened, and I would therefore ask that my complaint be added to the investigation. I will undoubtedly have to repair this prior to the conclusion of the NHTSA investigation, and would therefore like to know whether Ford will be required to refund me for the cost of the repairs if they are not performed in a Ford repair facility.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving 45 mph, the service power steering and advance track warning indicator illuminated the contact was able to drive the vehicle without losing power steering or other issues. Upon starting the vehicle the next morning, there was no power steering. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel motor needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred at 80,00 miles. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000. Updated 06/21/17

My 2010 Ford Fusion has come up with a "power steering assist fault" and "service advancetrac" messages on the dash board. This causes the steering in the vehicle to be stiff and very dificult to make a turn on the road. I managed to make it home driving at a reduced speed and by avoiding making turns when possible to prevent an accident.

While getting onto the highway "service power steering now" came up on the display. The car lost all power steering. Thankfully I was able to muscle the car off the highway. The wheel jerked to the left when the power steering went out. This is hazardous and could cause wrecks. For a little research I see that I am not the only person to have this happen to them.

The eps (electric power steering) unit just failed on my 2010 Ford Fusion S. the problem indicator light has flashed on startup a few times over the past couple of months, but finally came on permanently yesterday, 01/26/2017. When the indicator text came onto the error screen it showed the following text and all power assist to my steering was gone: Power steering failure and advance track failure my dealer has told me that this is a known issue on most Ford Fusion model years, but a recall has only been issued for the last few years and does not include mine! he described the issue as one where the ribbon cable that connects the eps unit is prone to disintegration, as it was originally designed, and the fixed eps units do not have this design flaw. The fix for this is more than $2000 dollars, and should not be placed onto the consumer since this critical safety part will fail on all Ford Fusion models over time... some sooner and some later. This is not an inconvenience like a broke radio or a leaking hose. This is a a disastrous situation of the fist order. How many lives is Ford willing to sacrifice as steering failures occur around the world, before they decide to take action?

Power assist failure. While driving on the highway, power assist failed making the car very hard to steer creating a dangerous condition that may cause an accident. After research I noticed that was a very common problem happening to many Ford Fusion. While the 2011 and 2012 Ford Fusion had a recall on this issue, the 2010 model is not included. The repair is estimated at $1,972.99. The dealer seems aware this is a design failure of the 2010 Ford Fusion making it unsafe to operate and a recall should be made.

While driving the power steering went out. After some reading I saw that hundreds of people have experienced this costing up to 2000 dollars to fix. This was all related to the power assist component that had already been recalled on 2011 and newer. 2010 was left out yet has the same issue as mine does now. Had this been my children driving they would not have has the arm strength to turn the wheel. This issue is possibly deadly and should be addressed quickly. I now have a car that I can not drive because it is unsafe. As of right now I would like to see Ford include 2010 and older that have the same issues as the 2011 models or new models have. What if it was one of your children driving this vehicle" would you want it recalled for their safety"
