2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
It is the typical throttle body issue everyone else is complaining about. It would randomly stall completely out on the main road. Occasionally, I could turn off the car and then turn it back on and it would drive me a few more miles before stalling out again. Car would randomly accelerate while applying the brakes. Car would violently "jump" like it was missing gears while accelerating. Almost impossible to accelerate speed without putting my foot to the floor. I bought a new throttle body for about $400 I think in September 2012 and within a year it was already doing the same things mentioned above. I just received an extended warranty from Ford in the mail and will get a refund for my previous expense on a new throttle body. It pretty much seems like a recall but without actually saying it is. I don't know if there is any further action that can be taken but if so then please do. This is a dangerous car with a short shelf life. I almost got blasted from my side twice because I would be turning off a 4 lane route with plenty of distance from oncoming traffic and the car would stall. I was basically a sitting duck sideways hoping it would roll me fast enough to get out of the way. I hope this helps.
I was in stop and go traffic and encountered a hard braking situation. I slammed on the brakes and met no resistance from the brake pedal. The brake pedal went to the floor with no ABS engaging. I never even got a squeal of the brakes working. I was at least a car length back when I slammed on the brakes. I ended up hitting the car in front, they in turn hit the car in front of them. Ironically I was the only one hurt from this crash. I fractured my foot from hitting the brake so hard. I can't imagine this is a normal brake function. I bought this car as a certified used car with 4000 miles in November 2013. I haven't had my first service since the purchase. Road conditions bare, flat surface and downhill. Weather around 30 degrees and some light fog. I will return to dealer to inspect brakes.
The parking brake on my manual 2010 Ford Fusion will freeze in place in temperatures below freezing. While the parking brake is disengaged and the indicator light goes off, the pads remain in contact with the rear tire, causing excessive heat, threat of fire, loss of emergency braking, or loss of control. This also causes excessive and premature wear / damage to the affected braking system. This problem is well documented online by Ford owners in northern climates.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated the brake line failed when she put her vehicle in drive. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic with the emergency brake on. The mechanic diagnosed that the brake line had to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

Noticed a noise in the rear end of our car in December. Made appointment asap with dealership we purchased car at. Noise was worse on drive to dealership. Informed rear brakes were metal on metal. Had brake pads and rear rotors replaced and they ground down and fixed rear slides. On 03/18/2013 brakes were good with 22,454 miles. Lug nuts were replaced on 02/28/2012 because of 11S23 recall. Feel because car was built in Mexico there was a defect in the rear brake disc and they were incorrectly built. We approached the Ford dealership and regional customer service and they told it was normal wear and tear. Not acceptable. I told them I would complain to your Agency. Brakes should last much longer-very premature wearing.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the brakes failed to respond. The contact stated that the brake and traction control warning lights were both illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The technician advised the contact that he was unable to confirm that the repair would rectify the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 65,000.
Rear brake pads worn out at 21000 miles. Manual transmission so parking brake must be used whenever parked. Front brakes almost no wear. Also we have cold weather here. ?
The car was inspected by the dealer at 40,000 miles and braking system was rated green ("the pads are okay"). when the car was next serviced at 47,387 miles (within the regular service interval) the left rear brake caliper had frozen, causing the pad to be worn to bare metal. I am worried because brakes are a major safety component, the drag may have damaged the wheel bearing, and I have read (fordfusionforum.com) of many instances exactly like my own that have led to recurring problems of rear brake failure.
I was attempting to stop in normal, flowing traffic when my car pedal went straight to the floor. It resulted in my car crashing into another car that wa--at least--the length of three cars in front of me. There was no resistance at all when I applied the brakes (while the car was in a stopped position). The officer on the scene said that he tried it and they were fine; however, the only thing keeping the car from rolling off the tow truck and into another car was the hand brake. I want.
The parking brake freezes in freezing weather. You can still lower (release) the parking brake handle, the warning light in the dash would go off, but the rear right brake stays engaged. This leaves the driver to believe that the brake has been released when in fact it hasn't. this happened to me this past winter. The car felt sluggish as if it was dragging something. About 10 minutes into driving we smelled a burnt smell and heard a metal popping noise from the rear right wheel. We stopped at a gas station to find out what was happening. The right rear brake was burning hot, the burnt smell was very strong, and it continued to make the metal popping noise as it was expanding due to the excessive heat. We had the car towed to the dealer and was told that this problem has to do with the design of the parking brake cable. We were also told to not use the parking brake in winter or it likely would happen again. This is a safety issue that Ford needs to address on because it can lead to the car catches fire.
I brought my car in for a routine inspection. With only 32,459 miles (mostly highway) I wasn't expecting any problems. My mechanic found that my brakes were so rusted that the rear ones were fused together with rust. He was as surprised by this as I was. I saw the parts and have used this shop for years. He never saw anything like it in a car with such low mileage. Has to be a design flaw, and potentially very dangerous. So $900 later, I still have to worry that this will happen again. I doubt I'm the only one with this problem.
Got off the expressway and while stopped at light smelled "something". 3 blocks later at my house I felt the heat from the rear wheels on my legs and realized the smell was from rear brakes. Jacked up both rear wheels and found the wheels almost immovable. Rear pads worn down to 2-3mm! front pads still had 10mm of pad remaining on all four pads! no problem (or use of) with parking brake. Calibers had been sticking - dragging for quite some time to wear down to almost nothing while leaving front brakes with years left on them. Car was still in warranty.
My Ford Fusion was parked in the parking lot while shopping. Temperature approximately 15 degrees F. before going into the store, I had set the parking brake, as the car was parked on a slight incline. Upon exiting the store and restarting the vehicle, I disengaged the parking brake. However, the right rear brake did not disengage. Instead, a loud grinding sound occurred. The brake eventually disengaged, but by this time, the brake rotor was extremely hot. This had occurred one time previously, also on a cold day when the parking brake was set. The vehicle was taken into the dealership, and the dealer confirmed that the right rear rotor had overheated and been damaged. Pads and rotors were replaced. Upon picking the car up from the dealership, I drove approximately 3 miles to home, and when I exited the car, the right rotor was very hot and the smell of burning brakes was present in the garage. The left rotor was cool enough that I could place a hand on it for an extended period of time. I was unable to even momentarily touch the right rotor. In this particular case, I had not engaged the parking brake, as the vehicle was picked up from the dealership and the parking brake was not engaged. Vehicle had previously had brake pads and rotors replaced only 13000 miles previously (38000 miles) due to excessive rear brake pad / rotor wear.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact was driving approximately 70 mph and depressed the brake pedal, which abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The brake warning light also illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact applied the emergency brake to stop the vehicle and shut the engine off. After restarting the vehicle the failure recurred. The contact applied the emergency brakes and shut the engine off a second time. The contact restarted the vehicle and did not experience any further braking issues. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
When the weather gets below freezing the parking brake freezes - you can release the parking brake with the parking brake handle and the parking brake warning light goes off but the parking brake stays engaged with the driver unknowing that the parking brake did not release. When this happens the driver is not aware of the parking brake being engaged until the brakes get so hot that smoke begins to pour from the rear wheels with the possibility of this causing a fire from all the heat. Also when the parking brake does not release and you apply the brakes while driving the vehicle the brakes do not respond the same as when they are applied under normal driving conditions. This problem has been occurring every time the weather gets below freezing since the vehicle was bought new and the defect has been reported to the local Ford service department numerous times with them making an effort to correct this defect but it has not helped and the problem still exist. This vehicle is in North Alabama where the weather gets cold but not in an area in the northern states where the weather is much colder. This problem happened again this morning and the low temperature for the night was 30 degree F and it has not rained in over a week. I own three other vehicles that are parked in the same area as this vehicle that do not have any problem as with this vehicle.
The vehicle lost power steering, traction control, and brakes upon entering the freeway on ramp. To stop the vehicle and endangering other drivers, I was forced to crash into the concrete wall barrier on the drivers side of the on ramp. There were no warning lights on the dashboard until after coming to a stop and the engine died. At that point the warning lights came on.
At 2000 miles had car back for brakes.its been back 8 times. They have cut the rotors and replaced pads and still jumps after about 5000 miles. Vibration in car that they couldnt find Y. replaced trottle body. There is an issue with the brakes they need to find out whats wrong. They have cut the rotors down to the point they replaced them and the ones on the front arent 6 months old and they cut them again.
