CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

The brakes on this car go almost all the way to floor before they engage. I have bled the brakes, replaced pads and rotors and none of these actions resulted in improved performance. I have read numerous posts that the ABS pump is defective. I am troubled by this as my daughter drives this car and I do not feel it is safe. This issue occurs at any speed in any condition I.e. dry, wet, turning or going straight. This also results in longer braking distances as the engagement is not normal. I have called Ford and they have taken no action whatsoever.

Driving during a snowstorm, I went to use the brakes. The anti lock brakes kicked in and since then the brake pedal is spongy sometimes the pedal goes to the floor. Have to pump the pedal. Master cylinder is good and brakes have been bled.

While turning out of the driveway into the street the brake petal pulsed as if the antilock brake system was activated. Immediately after that the brake pedal went to the floor with no brakes being present. Pumping the brakes restored a little of the pedal pressure. After that the brakes remained spongy. We replaced the brake master cyljnder but were unable to get any pressure in the brake system even after bleeding the brake lines. The dealer said that it was the ABS control module. There should not be a part that can fail while driving that can physically take away all of the break pressure in the system. In researching on the internet I have found hundreds of cases of people saying the same thing happened to them with their Fusion. The problem seems to be that one of the valves in the ABS control module can stick in the open position creating a loop in the brake line system that allows the fluid to circulate instead of pressurizing the wheel calipers.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving 15 mph, the contact attempted to stop the vehicle, but the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. The contact had to apply excessive force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. On other occasions, the brake pedal was soft and would take time to stop the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to john kennedy Ford of conshohocken (1403 ridge pike, conshohocken, pa 19428, (610) 279-1700) to be diagnosed, but no failure could be located. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 104,232.

Brakes randomly nearly fail...have to push pedal all the way to the floor. I put a new battery in, it stopped, until today when I nearly ran into a light pole trying to turn on a city street. I also had similar power steering issues 2 years ago, and had to have it replaced for $2000

My breaks go in and out, the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor as I'm in motion on the road. It's happened in the highway and on city streets. Luckly I had fast reflex to punch the pedal a couple times and that made it a tad bit better. I had the master cylinder and booster replaced, and the problem is still ongoing. The mechanic said the next step would be the ABS pump.

I was driving to work and it felt like I hit an ice patch in the road and almost rear ended another vehicle. Ever since then my brakes have been soft, I have done just about everything besides changing major hardware on the vehicle and still no change. I do not feel safe at all driving this vehicle anymore and really want a resolution to the issue

My 2010 Ford Fusion's brake pedal suddenly began getting spongy a few months ago and remained like that indefinitely. The pedal would have to be depressed all the way to the floor for braking pressure to kick in. I was driving in my neighborhood one one day going about 20mph and the brakes became completely unresponsive after multiple depresses to slow for a speed bump. I ended up stopping the car with the hand brake. This was on November 28th 2018. The brakes haven't worked since, I took it to the mechanic and they replaced my brake master cylinder and bled the system. That did nothing. After further analysis they concluded it's the ABS assembly that has failed - told me there's nothing they can do about that as the ABS module can only be programmed at a Ford dealership. I went in to get a quote, the needed ABS components will run me approximately $1800 not including labor costs. Outrageous. I'm a college student and to top it all of I lost my part-time job I had due to not having a car to go to work. Please is their something that can be done about this?

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion SE where the entire braking system literally failed while running my errands. The brake pedal went all the way to floor whereby I had to use the emergency brake to stop. Fortunately I did not hit anyone or anything. The local Ford dealership eventually diagnosed the "hydraulic control unit" had completely failed. Reading online, it is my understanding that this has become a national problem regarding these particular Ford vehicles and quite a few people unfortunately have had accidents since they could not stop properly in time. It appears this has / could become a very dangerous situation for others on the road. Cars should be able to stop properly and a car whose entire braking system fails without notice could seriously hurt / perhaps kill someone. We would greatly appreciate it if a national recall was ordered by the NHTSA. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Brake pedal was pressed all the way to the floor board of the car and the car did not react well to stopping as my daughter approached a stop light. Scary nontheless. Normal braking worked after that one incident. Anyway we brouht to private mechanic to check things out and he did not find anything wrong with brake line or pads. Still scary to think this might happen again.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While driving unknown speeds, the brake pedal was applied, but felt spongy and failed to stop the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the master cylinder needed to be replaced and the brakes needed to be bled. The repairs were completed, but the failure recurred. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 62,000.

The brake pedal suddenly went all the way to the floor. Brought the car to the local for dealer and they diagnosed the problem as brake pads and rotors, obviously pads ad rotors have nothing to do with the brake pedal going to the floor while braking. I did research and testing on the car and found the cause of the issue. The cause is a failed ABS pump. Apparently this is a well known failure in Ford Fusion and can and does cause complete loss of braking leading to accidents. The ABS system that Ford designed and installed in the Fusion has a major safety defect, in that if the ABS pump has an internal leak then when the brake pedal is depressed the brake fluid is allowed to flow passed the ABS pump, allowing the brake pedal to go to the floor. When the brake pedal goes to the floor baking is limited or non existent. Please do an internet search and you will see that this is a common occurrence that Ford has not addressed and has not trained it technicians to identify. My children drive this car and I found out about this issue by driving the car to the dealership for the airbag recall. Please do something about this issue

While driving normally on any type of road and coming to a stop when brakes are applied, pedal will softly go to the floor all the way and car will not stop unless pumped a few times. This started happening after a month when I bought this car from lang autos in lynnwood, Washington. First time it happened when I had to stop abruptly and there was gravel on the road which engaged ABS. As soon as ABS was engaged brake pedal went all the way to the floor and my car hardly stopped causing me to run a red light. I was almost about to run into a pedestrian. This is a permanent issue and I have had rotors brake pads calipers checked. I have also had the brakes bled and tested for any leaks. It came out negative. Master cylinder works fine and there is no leaks in brake line. No leaks in any joints that connects to master cylinder and ABS module. I have had my car tested and seems like the issue comes from ABS module/controller that might need a replacement. It is a very costly part plus labor costs are huge. On top of that I have already spent hundreds of dollars in diagnosing cause and replacing parts that are not related to actual cost.

Takata recall brakes completely went out. No pressure in the pedal. If it wasn't for the emergency brake I would of hit another vehicle with my children in the car. I have done research and it has showed multiple complaints about this on going issues with the breaks in the Fusion and Milan's.
