Had a strange noise, like snow or ice buildup on a fan blade. Brought to dealership, 2 hours later I had a loaner and was told the transmission had to get overhauled. Dealership called to inform us that necessary replacement parts are no longer available as the manufacturer is defunct. So Ford gave them the OK to put a "new" transmission in it. Got it home and within first day, the car sporadically would have engine lights, "bang" into gear into reverse, then have no power. This happened 4-5 times, every time there were "computer calibrations" or this and that, then the mechatronics unit failed and had to get replaced. This was over a 2 month time span, inconvenienced to bring back the car within a day of picking up the previous time. Then they said it was finally fixed, all systems checked out. Upon receiving the summary of repairs, it turns out that we received a re-manufactured transmission which will probably die after the warranty is done. Now we burned a half tank of gas (10 gallons) in 100 miles during a trip. The trip computer said 17.3 mpg, but my math says 10 mpg. It also now has a hard time getting out of it's own way, climbing hills with any slope. The dealership of course could find no errors, nor repeat the conditions that we encountered.
