The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-250. The contact stated that the vehicle was supposed to have a 34-gallon fuel tank, but took less than 24 gallons of fuel. The contact called bill utter Ford at 940-321-7400 (located at 4901 S interstate 35 E, denton, tx 76210) where it was determined that the vehicle was not covered by service bulletin number: 17-0046 (which addressed the possibility of a fuel tank replacement). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-250. When the contact entered the vehicle, he smelled diesel fuel emitting from the vehicle. The contact pulled the vehicle over and noticed fuel leaking from the vehicle. The contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 16V778000 (fuel system, diesel). The contact called five star Ford (6618 ne loop 820, North richland hills, tx 76180, (817) 500-0096) and was informed that they were unaware of a recall. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they were aware of the recall; however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 81,200.

We (my wife and I) were coming back from Louisiana to houston, Texas on a 4 hour road trip. We were on I-610 in houston when we started to smell diesel. I looked down at my fuel gauge and saw the "miles to empty" dropping rapidly, so I slowed down on I-610 and started taking the exit ramp to investigate the issue. As we entered the exit ramp, the back end of my truck started sliding and did a full circle until my back bumper hit the exit ramp guard rail. Luckily, the cars behind us were far enough back that we did not get hit or severely injured. We pulled off the exit ramp into the nearest gas station about 100 yards away to discover diesel pouring out of the front of my pickup. We found diesel all over the bottom of my pickup, the rear tires, and all over the engine and interior of the hood. It made sense why we randomly started sliding on the exit ramp when it was sunny out and we were going under the speed limit. I have videos of the fuel filter housing mounted to the motor where it is clearly very loose and diesel had leaked out and gone everywhere. We found that as long as the key is on, diesel will leak severely. When the key is turned off, the leak slows down to drops. It has been 3000 miles since my last oil change and no one has ever touched the fuel filter. The dealership (autonation Ford in katy, Texas) is trying to blame the problem on us so they aren't liable - saying the crash caused it, then saying we messed up the fuel filter, and who knows what their next excuse will be. We are not happy with the service we have received on a practically brand new truck. The truck has also had problems with the door latch freezing and not holding the door shut.

With no notice the truck cut off at a busy intersection and would not restart. Because of the location the police ordered a tow to move it quickly. Later roadside assistance towed it to the dealer who informed me the fuel pump was bad but they required more through work to quote it all. It ended up the whole high pressure fuel system had to be replaced as well as the fuel injectors. Ford claimed it was due to water contamenated fuel however my insurance sent a sample pulled from the truck and found only metals consistent with the material found in the fuel system but no water. My internet research showed recalls for this truck were issued for a missing strap on the fuel pump but not for my VIN which was produced in the Kentucky plant. When I showed the dealership they encouraged me to contact Ford corporate as they could not assist me further. The truck shutting off with no warning is a danger to the driver. I was billed $9,493.49 because they claimed water containation in the fuel which was not present. I had the department of agriculture check the last placed I purchased fuel and it was also fine as was the fuel the insurance company pulled from the truck. Ford owes the consumer a recall and reinbursement for the changes! this happened to be the 2nd fuel system this truck has received. The first was replaced under warranty but I am unable to load the service record details due to file size. I will send them if you will allow it.

While driving about 30 mph on mountain road at cade's cove tn. The engine shut off, no indication before hand. All small icon showed on dash including battery. Just made it to the other side of road pull off area or other wise I would have been in center of road. No power steering. Turner key off and waited about 1 minute. Turned key on and engine started up. Was able to return to our campground. This could have been a very serious safety / accident as this mountain road is very narrow and many turns going back to gatlinburg tn. From cade's cove.
