This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While driving the truck it suddenly and randomly loses power. Pushing on the gas pedal no longer makes the truck go. You have to coast to a safe spot, brake and turn the truck off, then restart it for it to start working again. The truck has a jolting motion to it when it loses power and until it is shut off. The truck has several indicator lights flashing like a wrench and something about hill assist not functioning. The truck sometimes has trouble starting after it loses power. Safety concerns are if this happens while trying to turn and there is on coming traffic you could get T-boned. If you are unable to pull over on the side of the road to restart the truck, then you risk being stopped in traffic and being hit from behind. This has happened on 3 occasions and happens randomly without warning. It has happened twice in one day. The truck has been to two shops who are unable to reproduce it and unable to find the problem. On-line forums lead me to think it is the electronic throttle body. A previous recall for this was 16B32. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by insurance company or police. The truck has three appointments with 2 different ford dealerships and one independent auto shop coming up for further inspection.
The back-up camera on my 2016 Ford F150 does not work after the Sun has been shinning on it for a while and it gets hot. At night or when or when the camera is cool it will work. The problem started sometime in 2019. I have not reported it to a Ford Dealer. I have a Co-worker who has a 2016 Ford Mustang with the same problem.
Rear Window Keeps Shattering 2016 F150 King Ranch have already replaced once now about couple weeks later did it again this is my fathers truck and he-??s almost 70 Years old and scared him !! This is a problem I called Ford and no help.. Need to stand behind their product!!! Not fair for him to keep paying..
rear window shattered after use of Defrost. Smell of burning wires/plastic immediately before. looks like a burn spot at window base, last photo with white smudge
My 2016 F150 moon roof track broke with 61k miles on it-?? it left my moon roof jammed open for rain and snow to enter my vehicle. After further research it appears that this is a common problem for this design. A ford dealer quoted me 4k to fix-??.If this does not qualify for a recall i have no idea what will. Please help all of us and make this a recall.
Panarama roof/front windshield leaks water. It sometimes drips through the dash and the electronics and may start to affect systems. This item has been addressed two times by the dealer, but the problem persists. Repaired 8/23/19, 3/30/19. Problem persists today. The truck is out of warranty now dealer will no longer address without Ford corporate involvement.
The trucks box frame is completely rusted. The truck is 6 years old, only been in Florida and has 36k miles. The safety of this vehicle is compromised and this matter is urgent.
There has been 3 times I have noticed my hood being partially open before driving out of the garage from a parked position. I had to push the hood back into locked position. So far I have not experienced this when driving which is a BIG concern to me. I do not drive my truck much after buying new in 2016 November. As of today my truck has 28,437.0 miles.
While driving on the highway at highway speeds 70 mph the truck automatically shifted from 6th Gear to first gear nearly throwing me through the windshield. It went back in the regular gear and started driving fine within a couple of weeks it got to where it would shift erratically all the time and not start half the time at this point it will not start at all.the gear indicator light does not illuminate. The computer cant recognize what gear it is in. I spoke with a Ford representative there was a recall for 153,000 vehicles with the same problem but mine was not one of them. Upon looking into it further I found nearly 300 other drivers with the same exact issue. Later calling the Ford dealership to get parts to repair the transmission I was laughed at and told he has seven of those trucks waiting for the parts to fix them on his lot now. I spoke with a different Ford dealership that gentleman told me he cannot get them parts to repair them either even though the computer is showing that there's over 70,000 of those parts in a warehouse and that Ford was holding on to them like gold and no one could get them not even at dealership. There are many People on forums complaining about the issues and dealerships telling me they have trucks there with the same issues and no one can get parts... seems to me that there is a major issue with these Transmissions. One forum a gentleman stated that he changed the lead frame in the transmission and that was the entire problem. Any help from your offices great appreciate it by all the owners, myself included. I have been in the loyal Ford owner of my entire life and cannot believe how treating their customers! Thank you
Transmission stuck in 1st gear, 3rd gear, or unable to shift and total loss of power after sudden braking to stop. This has happened over 6-8 times in my time of ownership. Starting between early 2021-2022. Vehicle currently has 76000 miles. Temporary resolution was to turn vehicle off and back on again. There have been reports that sometimes that does not work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ng3HJdyyoM
This report is for a k own recall for -??unintended tailgate release-??. This report s Ford-??s recall 21M06. The recall has been made. For reports estimated time to complete of 1/2 day. Dealership reports that the -??fix-?? will require 158 steps and at least one week. The dealership says that Ford will not pay for car rental during the 7-10 business day repair period. There is no incentive to repair this at a high cost (the car rental) to the end customer. This has previously been reported as ODI#11502257-?"request #590798. I simply want to supplement the previous report by clarifying that there already is a recall in place; but a with a major differences in view of Ford vs. dealership as to the time-to-complete. Under the expectation of 7-10 days to fix, Ford should pay for car rental. I corresponded with Ford about this on December 12, 2022 but Ford has not responded at all.
Over a year ago Ford announced a recall because of unintended back tailgate release. At that time there was no solution. In December 2022 Ford announced a solution, and requested owners to schedule an appointment for a fix that would take no longer than 1/2 day. The tail gate has indeed opened unintended 4 times, including once on CO Hwy 285; presenting a serious hazard as I lost half the load on a winding mountain road. When I attempted to schedule an appointment at Auto Nation Ford to fix, they could not get me scheduled until March 14, 2023, that the repair would take at least one week because of 158 steps involved. I was also told that Ford would not cover the cost of a rental vehicle while the F-150 is in for repair. I sent a letter to Ford (available on request) over a month ago, but I have received no response. This is a major safety issue. I have also had damage to the tailgate caused by unintended release in the garage. Gone unnoticed until I opened the garage door. By unknowingly opening the garage door I have scraped the tailgate. Ford is clueless. Their dealers have no campaign code as they call it. When they research the campaign number given in the recall notice, they don-??t want to have anything to do with it. I-??ve asked Ford to find a dealer that will fix the vehicle during the prescribed timeframe to no avail. I have asked Ford for relief by finding a Dealer to fix under recall warranty and to pay for vehicle rental during the elongated repair period.
Both rear door locks will not open while door lock is pushed down. You have to physically lift the door lock up to open the door. Normally you just pull the handle to open the door and the locks will pop up like the front ones. For some reason the child door locks cause this mechanism to break and not work even with the child door locks off. Fighting now to get a locks replaced but out of warranty.
Driving home form work I started getting an exhaust smell, kept driving and once I came to a complete stop at a light my entire cabin filled with exhaust white/blue smoke. I pulled over to check it out, opened the hood and the exhaust was coming from the back of the engine. A wrecker driver pulled up behind my truck, got out with his fire extinguisher for safety. He is the one who told me to look into the manifolds warping or the bolts breaking. The wrecker driver said the smoke in the cabin is carbon monoxide and not to transport and small children. The rest of the day, I had severe headaches. I took it to a shop and they have told me I will need new manifolds and gaskets and potentially a few other gaskets when removing the turbos. They also said this could have damaged my turbos and may lead to other exhaust issues, vehicle performance issues and definitely will not let my vehicle pass the emissions test in Texas. This appears to be a Ford design flaw and hopefully a nation wide recall can be implemented. The shop also recommended not to drive it because the cabin filled with smoke or rather a cabin full of carbon monoxide. This could cost me over $5000 to replace all part. Something needs to be done by FORD to fix this issue. I will have to find a way to pay for this as having a vehicle to and from work is necessary. My daily round trip to and from work is 80 miles.
On the morning of 12/16/22 while commuting to work, the rear window randomly shattered (an extremely loud bang). It almost looks like it exploded from the inside out (bulging out). There was no apparent contact by rocks or any known previous cracks or chips in the window. It was a cold morning, and the defrosters were on (rarely used in Louisiana)- that's the only thing unusual related to the rear window going on at the time.
While driving at speed 55+\- mph the truck shifted into -??limp in mode-?? causing a quick deceleration event. This happened on two different occasions. The 3rd time it happened I was slowing to pull into a filling station so the deceleration wasn-??t as harsh. All times when this happened the -??wrench-?? warning light came on after 10 or so seconds and the truck was back to running normal. The 3rd occurance at the filling station left me dead in the water, had to have AAA tow me to New Legacy Ford in Dushore Pa 18614. If the roads would have been wet an accident would possibly have occurred.
I have had two problems worked on by my dealer and neither of them were fixed. The first problem is a leaky oil pan which they attempted to repair the leak 3 times but it still leaks. This may not be a safety recall but I do feel like it is a hazard and I would bet there are probably 1/2 of the 2015-2017 Ford F150 owners with the 2.7 engine with the same problem. If nothing else I would say this is a environmental issue. The second problem I have reported to my dealer is the very poor vision with the back up camera at night. I had to leave my vehicle with the dealer overnight to have the problem looked at but they were not able to fix the problem and did say the night vision is not good.
