We had a throttle body issue this summer and had to have it replaced and towed. During driving, we lost all power, major safety issue! when I asked Ford about it, they said they didn't know about the issue; however they issued several recalls regarding this. This truck isn't in the recall, which makes no sense. It is evident that Ford has a major issue with their throttle bodies I have spoken with Ford several times, they are not helpful and are refusing to pay for this.

While driving on the freeway the vehicle shuts down and the hill descent control light came on and then the engine light. This happened 3 times, I took it to autozone to be tested and the error code - P2112 throttle actuator control system- throttle body needs to be changed. After researching, I came to find out this is happening to thousands of Ford vehicles. Ford had a recall on some vehicles for this, but if your make and model was not on there they will not cover the cost. Ford knows this is a dangerous problem, but will not issue a recall. It is only a matter of time (if not happened already) that there will be a fatality due to this body throttle issue. We as consumers should not have to worry about our vehicle randomly dying on the roads, worry about killing someone else or our own families just to commute. Ford should be ashamed of themselves.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and failed to accelerate. The contact stated that the failure also occurred while driving 60 mph. The vehicle was taken to jim bass Ford (4032 w houston harte expy, san angelo, tx 76901, (325) 949-4621) where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the throttle body. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 70,300.

Engine abruptly dropped to a rough idle with no throttle response while in traffic. Display console reported 'service advancetrac' and other warnings. I managed to coast to the side of the road. I shut off and restarted the engine and was able to drive normally. The same symptom repeated the next day. This is a repeat of the same symptom that occurred at about 17000 miles. At that time the dealer replaced the throttle body under warranty. This time the vehicle was out of warranty, so I replaced the throttle body myself and fixed the problem. I subsequently disassembled the old throttle body to see if I could identify the root cause of the problem. As an experienced electronic engineer, I have a better shot at doing this than many. Upon disassembly, I noticed black discoloration on the connector to the motor that controls the throttle. The material of that connector appears to be tin or a tin alloy; the black is likely an oxide that can cause an open circuit. This looks like a phenomenon called 'fretting' that can occur in connectors when vibration is present. The usual fix is to change to gold plated contacts, and/or ensure continued lubrication of the contacts. I've attached an article on 'fretting' for reference. Based on the fact that this problem was not permanently fixed by the first replacement of the throttle body, it appears that Ford has not implemented a design change to manage it. It's likely that the problem will recur and require repeated fixes. This is dangerous in traffic because it's not always possible to coast to a safe location with a non-functioning engine.

While driving in traffic, the engine abruptly cut to a rough idle and throttle became unresponsive. Warnings to service advancetrac and hill start assist popped up. I coasted to a stop, which was dangerous in traffic. I turned the engine off, then restarted twice and vehicle then behaved normally. The same problem recurred the following day. This is a repeat of a problem that occurred early in the life of the truck and that was fixed by the dealer under warranty by replacing the throttle body. This time I bought and replaced the throttle body myself and have fixed the problem. Loss of engine power in traffic is a dangerous event. The fact that this is the second failure of the throttle body in my vehicle suggests that the problem is not under control by the manufacturer.

While driving my truck (typically at moderate speeds - 20 - 30mph) it will suddenly reduce rpms to about 500 and the speed will drop to around 5 mph. Simultaneously with that occurring I will receive the following warning indicators "hill start assist not available" then another warning "hill descent control fault" then another warning "service advancetrac" then "see manual". this happens typically while accelerating and has occurred on city streets as well as while merging on a highway on ramp (bad situation). The resolution is to turn the car off an let it sit for a second then start it and drive slowly. This is widely documented across the internet with no identified cause and constitutes a severe safety hazard.

  • 74,950 miles
2015 Ford F-150 ecoboost, bought April 2018 with approx. 67,000 miles, currently at approx. 75,000 miles. I am reporting the sudden loss of accelerating power as the vehicle shudders and stalls both when moving with traffic or accelerating to enter or move with traffic. Multiple warning messages including the wrench light flash in the dash message area as the engine slows to idle with no ability to accelerate and comes to a stuttering stop. The first occurrence was three weeks ago and has happened no less than six time since - twice while accelerating onto the freeway (very busy, very fast traffic) and twice while crossing or turning in multi-lane intersections from stopped. Four of the six times resulted in my vehicle dying in and obstructing traffic with and me barely getting to the side of the road without an accident. I now shift to neutral to let momentum move the vehicle as I worm through traffic to the side of the road. Shutting off and restarting the engine clears or resets the message and sometimes "downhill assist not available" with the check engine light comes on. The check engine light has both stayed on or shut off on restart. I can then drive on the vehicle's own power, though the problem has repeated as soon as two minutes later, or not for days. I have not had to be towed and no accidents have occurred. The North Carolina consumer's council filed a lawsuit against Ford in 2015 which was settled with Ford offering an extended warranty only on the etb (electronic throttle body) of certain model vehicles - all with the ecoboost engine, and multiple customer service actions (csa's) that have since expired. A few minutes on the Ford forums online and it is apparent that this is a widespread problem with the ecoboost engine, and Ford has offered several bandaids, but none until after the etb has failed and lives been endangered.

While driving there is rattling inside of the steering column that started a few months back. Now my alternator seems to not be working properly and the truck will only crank when I have all extras off (radio, ac, etc.) I also have to pump the gas for some reason for it to turn over completely. Otherwise it just dies. Never had a problem until last week when it wouldn't turn over at all. My battery is pulling 13.9 V and I have checked the connections. For a truck to be 3 years old and already need a new alternator appalls me. There is something else going on and the rattling in the steering column is somehow related to me having problems cranking the truck.

2015 F150 2.7L ecoboost 31,908 miles... upon merging into traffic truck suddenly surges, followed by audible bang then abruptly loses all power "no driving conditions out of the ordinary, not under hard acceleration." Warning lights on the dash light up and I have no control of vehicle. Luckily I was fortunate to not have much traffic around me at the time and promptly coasted into a deserted parking lot to call my dealership. I am afraid to drive my truck now for fear of causing an accident due to mechanical/electrical failure, I don't want to die and don't want to put anyone it that position either. Dealer replaced the throttle body and says its ok to drive yet the throttle body they used as a replacement is no different then the one that failed how can that be safe? I'd like them to trust a truck that ceased all essential operations (brakes, acceleration, power steering) with a wife and kids in the vehicle during morning rush hour in the fourth largest city in the United States with speeding drivers who don't pay attention to the road in front of them, then we will talk. This is a huge safety concern and a known problem with many other Ford vehicles!!! fix it before someone gets hurt or dies as a result! do the right thing and hold the manufactures responsible its why we have the NHTSA. How is there not a massive recall with the eco boost engines in regards to the faulty throttle body, anything less is unacceptable. Does someone have to die first?

At times my 2015 F150 loses all power and go to a low power/ "limp mode" setting. Cautions received are (1) service advance trac, (2) hill descent control fault, (3) hill start assist not avail, (4) traaction control fault light. When this occurs, the vehicle goes to a very low forward power setting (<5mph), runs extremely rough to the point where the vehicle shakes aggressively. This problem is intermittent in nature, and yesterday was the final straw. This suddent oss of power occurred on a busy road and I nearly got rear ended. I immediately limped off the road and was able to get the vehicle towed to the dealership in castle rock, co. Currently I'm standing by for the mechanics diagnosis. Of note, I do see several similar write-ups of this problem on the NHTSA site regarding the 2015 F150. Ironically, a similar occurrence (ref. Nhstsa id#11083485) happened right up the road from me in castle rock, co (4/5/18). I hope Ford is aware of this extremely dangerous, recurring problem within its F150 fleet.

No hill assist flashed first, then traction control, then flashed check engine warning. Engine stayed on but in idle only with no throttle control, lost power steering too. Got to side of road. Pumped throttle. No response. Turned off. Restarted and cranked little longer than normal and started but idling rough. Turned off again. Restarted. Smooth that time. Dropped in gear and drove 4 hours home in sport mode at 75 mph. No more issues last week till yesterday morning. Drove wife to dr on our 45 mile back country roads. Issue came back. This time ran rough when restarted. Then smoothed out. Did it 3 more times on way there. Which was 6 miles. On way home, reoccurred multiple times never getting it above 40 miles per hour before happening again. Called 3 tow companies, all were 2 hours out. Limped it home with flashers at 25 mph. Had towed today to diffee Ford in el reno. They said yes a tsb, but no Ford not covering the cost of repair 61,340 multiple law suits have been filed complaints on the throttle body defective needing replaced leaving driver stranded.

Truck stalls due to throttle body actuator sticking. Vehicle becomes disabled/stalled and applies the brakes. Occurs without notice at any speed. Occurs on highway, city streets, and dirt roads. Requires throttle body replacement. Similar recalls did occur for the Ford throttle body for other models and years (e.g. 13N03 program). Dealer indicates it is not covered under powertrain warranty (although it should be) and costs $600 to replace.

On freeway when lost acceleration. Indicator on dash said up hill assist not available and after clinking okay it then read service advance trac with the mechanic wrench showing. I'm on the shoulder of freeway, in park, and engine running rough as if on only two cylinders. I went ahead and put it back in drive and there was not throttle and trans would not kick in. Turned key off ready to call tow truck but went ahead and restarted the truck and issue cleared itself so we moved down the road. There is still an underlying issue, as I am told by my Ford service writer, the etb needs to be replaced and from what I see online this is not an uncommon issue with the etb and F150. This is a major concern and I was fortunate I was not towing my travel trailer at time which could have had major issue getting to side of freeway safely without power, if not rear ended. Shouldn't there be a recall because of safety? Ford is selling F150 eb as quality tow vehicle although this could get someone hurt or even worse. Don't get me wrong, I am very pleased with the F150 eco boost and its performance but this issue needs to be addressed by Ford! and not at customer expense!
