Remote started my 2013 F150 FX4 crew cab and 10 seconds later heard a loud pop. Got into truck and saw back driver side window blown out. Truck never moved. Looking further and only see defrost controller touching glass.

Takata recall, the rear defrost does not work and it has happened to multiple people where the rear glass explodes. I have disconnected the cable connecting the rear defrost to stop it from heating up but it is a common issue on 2013 Ford F-150 trucks. If the cable connecting the rear defrost behind the driver side is disconnected the light for the rear defrost works and the side mirrors work but once connected again nothing works

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While in his home, the contact used the remote starter to start the vehicle. When he exited his home and walked towards the vehicle, the contact noticed that the rear driver's side window had shattered without warning. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a Ford dealer. The vehicle was taken to holiday Ford at (877) 478-5316 (390 N rolling meadows dr, fond du lac, wi 54937), but the dealer refused to service the vehicle because it was serviced at another location and the contact was not a loyal customer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.

After using rear defrost, left side of the rear window shattered with a loud pop, sending bits of glass onto pax in the back seat. After reading online this is a known issue with this model of truck and needs to be a safety recall.

Takata recall for Ford F150 2009-2014 equipped with rear sliding window with defrost feature. Rear window or sections of the rear window will shatter if the rear window & side mirror defrost system is engaged. A section of mine broke today while driving home from work. Had 22 miles to drive in the snow but it was not that cold outside and I only had the rear defrost on when we first left work and headed out. Defroster times out after about 10 minutes so it was off for about 30 minutes and then the drivers side panel pops and cracks. I even had the rear window open a wee bit so I could push more air through the cab to defrost the windshield better.. when I first heard it, I thought a tree branch hit the top of the roof. But the noise sounded a little bit different than some object hitting the truck. The driver rear panel is shattered between the outer and inner glass panels. Definitely around the heating element wires and the panel is still intact.

Using the factor installed auto-starter I remotely started my F-150 to warm up, outside temp was 29F. After approximately five minutes of running my wife and I got into the truck to drive to work. Within a minute we heard a loud bang and we thought someone threw a snowball and hit the truck. When we looked in the rear window towards the noise we saw that the left rear window section exploded; luckily the the coatings kept the pieces contained. The rear defroster was not turned on by neither of us.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. After parking the vehicle at a fuel station, the contact heard an abnormal popping sound. Upon inspection, the contact stated that the rear window shattered. The hub city Ford dealer (4060 S ferdon blvd, crestview, fl) was contacted and confirmed that the window shattered due to the rear defroster independently activating. The manufacturer was informed of the failure by the dealer due to tsb # 10053423. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

The rear window behind driver side shattered/fissured into tiny cracks. We had an issue of the rear defroster not functioning the week before this occurred. Having had a bout of extremely cold weather, I went out to warm up the truck and decided to try to see if the rear defroster would work to defrost the rear window and to my surprise the light popped on so I came back into the house while the truck was warming up. Upon walking back to the truck which was parked in my driveway, I noticed the rear window shattered/fissured in tiny cracks everywhere.

I used the remote start to warm up my car (it was 3 degrees Fahrenheit that night), I got in, started the truck, then started messing with my phone (still parked in my driveway). I hear a loud pop and looked around and found my drivers side rear window had shattered (spiderweb cracks through the whole thing, window still intact though). Couldn't have been a rock or someone throwing something at my truck since I was backed into my driveway.

Remote started the vehicle at night, around 7:30 pm on a 23 degree temperature night in central Indiana. We then got into the vehicle roughly 5 minutes later. Both doors were then closed and the key was put into the ignition. Once the key was in the ignition, we heard a very loud "bang" noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. We noticed the driver's side 1/3 of the power sliding rear window was shattered. We exited the vehicle to inspect the damage. Nothing was present in the bed of the truck to cause us to believe something had hit it. Upon further investigation online and a certified mechanics opinion, it has come to our attention that this is a "common" issue with Ford F-series trucks. The rear defrost mechanism becomes too hot during remote start and causes the tempered glass to become unstable and shatter.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. While driving 35 mph, the rear defogger was activated and the rear window shattered. The vehicle was taken to donley Ford Lincoln of mount vernon (1455 coshocton ave, mt vernon, oh 43050, (740) 392-2222) where it was diagnosed that there was a shortage in the rear defogger. The rear window needed replacement. The contact mentioned that the defogger was built into the window. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 65,800.

My wife started the truck with the remote start on the morning of 02/05/2018. She did not notice anything out of the ordinary until she got in the truck to head to work. She called me and said that while looking in the rear view mirror it looked like the rear window was shattered. She stopped and took a closer look and realized that it was shattered. We drive the truck every day and have not had any issues with anything flying up and hitting the window.

I remote started my vehicle in the morning. It was 12 degrees out. Got in the car and drove it about 2 blocks on a slow neighborhood road in a straight line and heard a loud bang inside the cabin. The rear drivers side back panel window had fully shattered. I could not see out of the window and glass was on the inside of my back seat.

1/26/17: It was 45 degrees this morning so I used the remote start (factory supplied on key remote) to get my truck running before leaving for work. As I walked outside (did not touch the truck), I heard a loud gunshot. Thinking something had fallen on the truck I looked up and it was not parked under anything. I walked around the truck to find that the drivers side panel of the back window was spidered. Again, I was not driving or parked under or around something that could have impacted my truck/window.

While driving to work on the morning of January 18, 2018, I heard my truck make a fairly loud "pop" sound that came from somewhere directly behind me. Due to the cold temperatures we have been experiencing here in Indiana I didn't think much of the sound. I assumed it was just cold parts moving or maybe I had ran over a small pot-hole. After finishing my work day I returned to my truck, which was locked and parked in a safe location away from any hazards, to find my rear window blown out on the drivers side. The window was completely shattered into tiny pieces but managed to stay held together by the factory tint I assume. However there was a small hole where glass was missing in the center portion of the window. One could tell by looking at the window that it had exploded from the inside out because the window was pushed outward toward the truck bed with some small pieces of glass landing in the bed of the truck.

Windshield washer nozzles freeze and fail to spray when cold out, even with high concentration of alcohol in washer solvent. Sunshine is sometimes enough to warm them and make them work. I belive they aren't shrouded enough and water from outside enters the nozzles.

Rear window on driver side shattered after remote warm up of truck on cold day. Vehicle was in motion for 10 feet. I heard a loud pop and thought something landed on the roof. I then looked in the rear view mirror and saw where the glass had shattered.
