This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle downshifted inadvertently. The vehicle abruptly slowed down and the contact pulled over. The contact turned off the vehicle and waited a few minutes and was able to continue driving. The vehicle was not able to be shifted into reverse. The contact called smith motor (309 forrest dr, brookfield, mo 64628 (660) 258-2267) and was informed to have the vehicle diagnosed. The power train control module was reprogrammed under NHTSA campaign number: 19V075000 (power train). The contact was informed that the lead frame wiring harness was on back order, preventing the mechanic from fixing the reverse failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 173,856.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 30-50 mph, the vehicle downshifted into first gear. The speed odometer was inoperable and the vehicle failed to shift into gears. The all wheel drive warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the PCM was re-flashed and the contact was informed that the lead frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 124,000.
While driving the speedometer goes to zero. The odometer displays just dashes. The engine power is reduced significantly. I pull over and shut the engine off, remove the key and then restart the truck. Then it drives normally until the next time it happens.
There is a major problem with the driveshaft. It's coating wears off which causes it to get into a bind when you come to a stop or from a start. Feels like it is hung up in between gears. Ford recalled F150 raptor and fixed it but the regular F150 they didn't recall and it has the same driveshaft. There are numerous videos on youtube call the slip yoke clunk if you need to see what it is doing.
The vehicle is an automatic transmissionsand is unexpectedly downshift into first gear while the vehicle is in motion. You have a recall on other Ford F150's and this should be one of them for the money we paid for the truck
The 10-speed 10R80 automatic transmission that is located in many F150's is defective as it can shift harshly and erratically at very high speeds, causing vehicle control loss and causing accidents. The vehicle will often jerk, lunge, and cause loss of control as sometimes it will stop engaging. Ford dealers are hesitant to repair the part and negligent when it comes to the safety of the drivers. Often not blaming it to the faulty transmission but other 'non related faults' that have occurred in the transmission, hence not providing free repair.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was initially repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 19V075000 (power train) at richmond Ford West (10751 w broad St, glen allen, va 23060). The contact stated that soon after the repair, the unintended vehicle downshift continued to occur while driving at various speeds without warning. The contact stated that upon reaching 35 mph, the vehicle would abruptly jerk before resuming normal driving. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer where he was given an estimate for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure and referred him back to a dealer to have the vehicle diagnosed. A case was also filed. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 102,000.
When driving at slow speeds (ie parking lots) the transmission downshifts into first gear with a very large "bang" noise. This problem is very intermittent. Ford has issued a recall (16S19) which was performed on my vehicle by the local Ford dealership, but it did not resolve this problem. I returned to my local and they keep clearing the transmission's computer in the hopes of relearning my driving habits. This was done twice since the recall was performed, with no improvement.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the transmission down shifted independently. The contact stated that the drive train failure warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed wyatt johnson Ford located at 646 thompson ln, nashville, tn 37204, (615) 244-3615, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the lead frame and transmission wiring harness needed to be replaced. The contact received manufacturer communication number: 19N01-S1 (power train). The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 37,424.
Good morning, I have a 2011 F150 that is have a serious problem I would like to have resolved while driving the truck will down shift from 6th to 2nd at 70 miles per hour. It also will lose power and rear wheels will lock up.when coming to a stop and start again the truck makes a loud bang that feels like the drive shaft and trans. Are separating.while driving mph will go to 0 miles ph. And a tool will display on the dash.my truck has 187K on it and have been told that Ford will not fix the issue due to mileage I would hope that Ford cares more about my family's safety than the 37K miles past the warranty.this is a well known problem that needs to be fixed, Ford I hope you will fix my truck.it has already had the tps done didnt help, I need my truck for work and cant afford to get another at this time.help!!!!!
Power train auto transmission controls module reset has already been done to car. When accelerating from 50-75 the transmission shudders and jumps. When you go up hill it's impossible to accelerate at all without the transmission shuddering. Engine light blinks occasionally.
It is know that on most Ford trucks that neutral safety module switch goes out and will not let truck start in park or neutral or any gear settings. With other power drive problems.
While driving my F150 on highway the vehicle transmission is dropping gears suddenly, it seems its going to first gear, another problem I am having with the vehicle's transmission does not go into reverse, when I push the shift lever in the reverse position, the vehicle's transmission does go in reverse, the reverse light does not illuminate on the dashboard of my F-150 and the backup lamp on the rear of my F-150 does not illuminate.
Back in February or March of this year (2020), I took my truck to a local Ford dealer for an estimate on a couple of different repairs and also for them to perform recall #19V075. After having my vehicle for 3 days they did not perform any repairs. And until today when I looked up my VIN, I had assumed that they would have at least done the safety recall. But they apparently neglected to do that too. Well, last night when I was about to pull into my driveway, my truck seemed to downshift abruptly and have minimal power and various lights turned on and off on the dash. Then this morning, my truck would not start. It would only start in neutral, followed by extremely aggressive shifting into drive and reverse. Aggressive enough to cause the truck to move a couple of feet even with my foot on the brake. This subsequent problem appears to be associated with fsa 19N01 that Ford has associated with my VIN. I suppose that it is unknown right now if the two problems are related. I will find out Wednesday, as I have an appointment to take my truck back in. I just cannot believe that after having my vehicle for multiple days, they failed to perform the safety recall update as I requested. I am lucky that I did not experience the downshifting problem while at higher speeds! I am not sure if this is even worthy of a complaint, but I figured that I should pass this along. The dealership is van horn Ford in oconomowoc, wi.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle shifted into first gear independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was undetermined. The dealer was not contacted. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19V075000 (power train). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
While driving it down shifts from 3 to 1, codes are P0705 and P0016. These should fall under the factory recall for 15N05 and 19N01 but Ford refuses to cover it. Truck not only downshifts but also clinics into gear from park to drive or reverse.
