This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Both of the front door panels are breaking down off at the top by the windows. Driver side is bad and the passenger side is starting to break! this vehicle is too new and way to expensive to be doing this !!!
Rich Ford service manager crystal switzer, confirmed they have done this and all notices from Ford, tbs16-0165 became Ford recall program 17N03 and supplement #1 dated October 26/2017 I filed complaints 08/20/2015 up until today with, rich Ford, Ford Motor Co, Ford Motor Co.com, about the carbon monoxide complaint, I have become; sleepy, sick, nauseous, vomiting,
Purchased this vehicle and it has a cracked exhaust manifold, exhaust fumes are horrible, have to drive with air on recirculate, and windows cracked. Dealer verified it was a cracked manifold but wouldn't cover it since the catalytic was not throwing a code.
Supposedly there was a recall in 2017 on the side window uphostery, I made a complaint to Ford that we never received notification on this but they insisted that it was sent
Vehicle stops suddenly, usually while accelerating but no always, with a message that pops up on the dash stating, "vehicle system management fault." Vehicle will not accelerate after pop up appears and begins to shake/rumble. The only way to get the vehicle to drive again is to turn off the vehicle and restart it. At this point, the vehicle seems to drive normally again. I've noticed this pop up mainly on highways/freeways when accelerating around 55-60 mph but it has happened on side streets while getting up to speed which is usually 30 mph.
Got in my 2015 Ford Explorer this morning started the car backed out of the driveway and it would not steer no power steering at all. Apparently there is a steering module within the steering column that gets locked because of traction control? apparently if this module needs to be replaced the whole steering column needs to be replaced. There are several incidents on social media that this has happened while people have been driving on the highway.
While driving the 2015 Ford Explorer I can smell exhaust entering the cabin of the vehicle, especially under acceleration. I found this to be an issue in the 2016-2017 models, via a tsb 17-0044, but not the 2015. I am experiencing the same issue. I have contacted Ford and they seem unaware of the issue and requested that I take it in at my expense to diagnose and "possibly" find the issue on a per hour rate. I believe that this is causing my 6 year to get car sick, only in this vehicle, and my wife to feel tired and have body pains as she is the one who drives it the most.
We were driving on the freeway and suddenly lost control of the vehicle, with no warning. It caused us to go off the highway and rolled 3-4 times.in researching this, saw a recall that affects this vehicle and it was not received.
The door, windshield, and external window seals are rapidly deteriorating, the paint on the car hood is blistering and about to peel off like paint did on cars several ago, leaving bare metal visible underneath.
This car has started showing all signs of corrosion on the front hood. I have done my own research and found thousands of other Explorer with the same issue. Every outcome has been different from each dealership to another. Here is a copy of the NHTSA id number with the corresponding tsb and summary I am also attaching several pictures for evidence. (all pictures were taken by an authorized Ford dealership- metro Ford in Oklahoma city, ok) NHTSA id number: 10156863 manufacturer communication number: Tsb 19-2026 summary some 2000 and newer Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles equipped with aluminum body panels may exhibit corrosion concerns appearing as bubbled and/or peeling paint with or without accompanying white dust. Panel replacement is recommended. Follow the service procedure steps to correct the condition.
As I was driving my vehicle on the freeway, the driver side door started to swing open as I was turning and would not stay closed. I had to hold the door shut until I could safely pull over. When I got out of the vehicle to inspect the door I noticed that the exterior door handle was loose. I was able to get the door to remain closed after pushing the handle back in and locking the door.
Our vehicle has exhaust issues, the car if left idling for very long at all will make the entire vehicle smell. This causes passengers to have a headache and sometimes become sleepy. The smell in the vehicle has been so bad after idling for a while and then driving we had to pull over and open all doors.
Since October 2019 I have had my car in 4 auto shops for a propane smell, , so strong it would make you feel sick driving. The 4th auto shop said it was the turbos leaking. We changed those. Now the smell is less but you can not sit in idle because it gets very strong. Mind you this car was a 1 owner before me, and I bought it used from a dealer June 2019. Drove only 4 months and now 4 months of not being able to drive it but have to make payments anyway. Im at a loss! how can Ford not handle this? really, cops have even gotten in accidents. I can't just drive it risking our health or lives. I really hope they recall the whole vehicle, it's not right to risk everyone's lives.
Exhaust odor coming from climate control vents. While driving with the heater on, noticed that when we'd come to a stop a mild exhaust odor was coming from the heater vents. Passengers consisted of myself, two toddlers and pregnant wife. After an 8 hour drive my wife and I had headaches. Not sure the source of the headache.
