Although the current exhaust recall identifies years 2011-16, I experience exhaust fumes in the cabin of my 2015 Ford Explorer. I travel as a sale rep, I get a good night sleep, but at time find myself feeling sleepy at times on long highway trips, and at times can smell exhaust upon acceleration. I purchased the vehicle December 2010 / January 2011.

August 24, 2015 I was driving to a 7:00 pm exercise class.I was talking to my mother via bluetooth when I suddenly blacked out and drove across the service road and all 4 lanes both North and South of 287. I wake to emergency responders pulling me from the car and putting me into a ambulance, my mother could hear all of this. I was taken to hospital and had multiple tests run but nothing was found. After I was discharged I had several more tests run and again nothing was found. $18,000 damage to car, medical bills, missed work and I had to retest to keep my drivers license but I never could find a cause. Spring 2017 a friend sent me a article about Ford Explorer leaking carbon monoxide into the cabins. This made complete sense. I purchased a detector and have had it to go off twice. I am reporting this because Ford needs to address this issue. They have said this only happens in modified police vehicles but I can tell you by my experience that is not true.

Evidence of carbon monoxide coming into the cabin of my Ford Explorer - please be advised I leased a 2015 Ford Explorer XLT from al packer Ford in West palm beach Florida on 3-21-2015. Immediately after purchasing the vehicle when I got on the highway to drive home I smelled a burning smell and thought it may be the typical engine burnoff smell that happens on some new cars. After the burning smell continued for many months after rapid acceleration of the car, I took the car to the fire department. Multiple firemen rode with me in the car and tested the vehicle for carbon monoxide with their drager X-am 2500. The device came back positive for carbon monoxide in the vehicle. The carbon monoxide levels appear as soon as you accelerate. The fire department tested 3 minutes of driving but within 3 minutes the level got to 38 ppm. I bought my own co detector after that and have seen levels get higher into the 50's after driving 20 minutes and making multiple accelerations. I didnt want to continue the testing further as I was concerned for my health. I have both the fire department fire incident report stating that carbon monoxide was building in the car, along with a service invoice from al packer Ford stating that a carbon monoxide tester shows evidence of exhaust fumes in the vehicle. I kept bringing the car back to Ford multiple times complaining, I brought the service employees in the vehicle with me and showed them the co readings. They stated their service department did not have a co meter. Each time they tried to fix the problem with no success. I started the lemon law process but Ford made the process so difficult that while I was waiting for the engineer to come out to see the car I traded it in. I was in fear of my family's health breathing in the constant exhaust fumes that were coming in my vehicle every time I did a rapid acceleration.

Exhaust odor enters the vehicle when accelerating. The fumes seem to be getting worse. Also the left front door panel is warped and coming apart. Ford has not fixed either problem. Service department blows these complaints off in hoping I don't keep calling.

I smell exhaust fumes in the cabin of my vehicle. Especially noticeable with acceleration such as when passing vehicles, merging onto highways, climbing hills. First noticed this a few months after purchasing my vehicle in 2015.

Within the first month of purchase of my brand new 2015 Explorer we started smelling an odd order coming into the cabin of the vehicle any time you accelerated. It would be extremely bad when on the highway trying to pass another car that you would have to roll the windows down. I made an appointment and took it in and was told that they couldn't replicate the issue. I asked if they took it out on the highway and was told no. I think the dealership I used was biased against women and they dismissed my claim. I finally had to take it to another dealership who found a "fix" and just installed the new parts a month ago. I just took a 329 mile trip and the issue still exists. I have called again for another appointment and am waiting to take it in. I'm concerned that my youngest child who sits I the back seat keeps getting sick to his stomach when riding in the car. I'm afraid he's getting carbon monoxide poisoning. Let me make clear the smell is worse in the back cabin of the car, but the front passengers get it as well. It took over two months for Ford to put the new parts on my car and I'm concerned it's going to take another few months to get something else done to "fix" the issue. Something needs to be done as these cars aren't safe to drive and I can't afford to buy a new one. I will be upside down if I try to trade this in. This only happens when the car is being driven and the accelerator is being pushed.

You can smell the exhaust inside the cabin while driving. It is noticeable when you have to hit the gas to speed up to go around a vehicle or getting onto the interstate. After hearing on the news about the police having the same issue, I wanted to make sure that my complaint has been noted. I will be purchasing a CO2 detector and placing it inside my vehicle where my 3 year old and 7 month old sit. There safety is top priority and hope a recall is coming soon. I noticed the smell when I purchased the vehicle new in March of 2015

Purchased my Explorer used in February 2017, 2 weeks after purchase I noticed an odd smell after picking up speed to get on a busy highway, took the vehicle to the dealership they stated there was a bulletin out about the issue but there was no fix for the issue as if yet but there was. Nothing was done for me to try to resolve this issue. Now today it's all over the news about he exhaust fumes from the vehicle possibly making drivers sick & causing drivers to pass out. This is obviously a known safety issue but yet when I contacted my local dealer they act as if it's no big deal, want to charge me to do what Ford has suggested to do for owners at this point beings there is no recall as of yet. It's terrible to own a vehicle that you are afraid to even drive because Ford is dragging their feet finding a solution for this problem that many owners are experiencing in the Explorer.
