While traveling at 60 mph on a highway I experienced a sudden tire failure on a Firestone Wilderness AT tire (P25570R16). There was a loud humming noise coming from the back of my truck just prior to the incident. After the tire failed I immediately pulled onto the shoulder and called Ford's roadside assistance. I was told that Ford would send someone out to fix the flat but they could not do anything with regards to replacing the tire. Pictures are available. Although there are no visible indications that the tire failed due to anything other than a manufacturing defect I am taking the tire to a local Firestone dealer for observation.( dot number: Vncu1px459 tire size: P25570R16 )
Replaced Firestone wilderness tires after recall started....our tires do not bear the vd mark indicating Decatur plant, but we found a hairline crack around the tire at the tread edge on at least one tire....we replaced with michelins and want to be reimbursed...wondering if recall will extend to all Wilderness AT.( dot number: Tire size: P235/75R15 )
We were driving along the road and then the back tire just blew out we did not hit anything and it was blown out the side like it had been shot at. This happened in July 2000 we called our dealer and he said it was not under warrantyso we brang it to a tire shop in lindstrom and had a new one put on.of course we did not save it at the time it was destroyed. Should I be concerned with the other tires now and can we be reimbersed for the one we lost ? according to my recall notice my tires are not covered in the recall but ever since our tire just blew out for no reason I am very concerned. Please notify me if I should have my tires changed or what I should do. Thank you very much kevin eichten( dot number: W2hl tire size: P235/75R15 )
The tires "float" or "hydroplane" in rain. Our constant near wrecks and loss of control during the first 1400 miles driven caused us to replace the tires. My husband, don mcree, called steve formby to discuss the problem. The promised return calls never happened. These tires are extremely dangerous. They are standard equipment on Explorer's in snow areas, yet they don't hold the road in light rain. They need to be removed from the market immediately.( dot number: Tire size: P255/70R16 )
A piece of tread approximately 4 inches wides by 3 inches high came off of this particular tire. We noticed it with the vehicle parked. We took it to the Firestone dealer and they replaced this tire with another Firestone Wilderness AT. The Firestone tires were recalled the next day but do not include the one we had or any of the ones we currently have. Firestone ordered us some Bridgestone tires to replace all of the tires on Aug. 9 and we have not received them yet. These Firestone tires are unsafe because the tread separated even though they are not dot vdhl.( dot number: 8xhl tire size: 236/75R15 )
2000, Explorer Sport with original tires; 2 rear tires had flats at 3,000 miles. Ford dealer & Firestone center didn't do anything. Ford put the customer on priority list to replace the tires but the customer stillwaiting after 4 weeks.
During tire check, dealer detected that wires were starting to come out of the sidewall of lf tire, from the point where the tread met up with the tire. The vehicle only has 6600 miles on it. My tires (dot 8xhl) are not recalled by Firestone, but I feel that this is irresponsible given the nature of this defect. I have changed all of my tires to a different brand at my own expense, but would like to be compensated for the defective tires and my replacement cost for the new tires.( dot number: 8xhl tire size: P235/75R15 )
Tire failure, failure near edge of tire on inside near where tread and sidewall meet. Tire partially off rim. Tire beyond repair. No evidence that a road hazard caused this damage.( dot number: 8xhlipy499 tire size: P235/75R15 )
What make they think the 16" is safe than the 15" tires, I am driving in fear, I demand a replacement with a different brand.( dot number: Tire size: 255X16 )
Tire blew out, came completely apart at the seams, could find nothing wrong with the tire afterwards that would have caused this. Reported to both local Ford and Firestone about this, and they wouldn't even discuss it since it wasn't one of the "recalls". I believe they all need to be looked into. Call T.V. station and they have footage of the tire and all.( dot number: Tire size: P255/70R16 )
Apologies if this is not the place to submit this. Firestone does not respond. My 16" tires are from the Decatur plant. Why are only the 15" being recalled? same plant, same time, same tires. I am fearful of driving my children in this car. Please force Firestone to replace all deadly tires.( dot number: Vdcu tire size: P255/70R16 )
We replaced the Firestone tires because my wife was not comfortable riding on them even though they were not recalled..after replacing the tires, the Goodyear service manager noticed the tread separating from the tires and brought it to my attention..I took the tires to a Firestone dealer and was told by the mgr. He could do nothing. Have called Firestone but have not received a reply..we hope the recall is extended bcause there a much broader problem than they are stating..thank you, richard powell( dot number: 8xhl tire size: P235/R15 )
Driving down road at posted speed limit, when the back tire blew out causing me to go into the center median causing damage to the rear of my vehicle( dot number: W2hl tire size: P235/75R15 )
On 12/6/99 about 10pm, as I entered curve of ramp into I-75 South the right-rear tire failed. The damage was on the sidewall near the tread/running surface. A gash extending about 1/3 the circumference of the tire was created. Although my tires are not from the Decatur plant, I recognized the same or similar failure features as shown on television recently. My tires start with 8xhl. At that time the failed tire was replaced under my new vehicle tire warranty. Recently, replacemnet of others was denied on the basis that these tires are not covered by the actual recall at this time. I am certain that these tires are also unsafe.( dot number: 8xhl tire size: P235/75R15 )
Just wanted to let ntsb know of another failure and get on record. Cool weather, not speeding. Firrestone refused to honor the warrenty. Thnx jim( dot number: )
