Vehicle was operated below speed limit, when it started to shimmy and shake violently causing operator to loose control. Vehicle wanted to go towards the right and would not respond to operator's attempts to steer towards the left. Vehicle abruptly responded towards left, dipped down on the passenger side front and rolled over, hitting an embankment causing it to flip up on it's wheels (right side up). Police and insurance adjuster noticed shredded and mangled tires on passenger side of vehicle, but had no explanation. I now realize the cause of the crash/roll-over must be the Firestone tires. I no longer have possesion of the vehicle or tires, as the vehicle was totalled and taken by insurance company.( dot number: Unknown tire size: P235/75R15 )

Even though checked and found not to be a recalled tire, while driving at 55 mph up a freeway we experienced tire tread separation but no blow out. Was able to drive slowly to Firestone dealer where they replaced the bad tire. Wanted to report tire separation from Wilderness AT Firestone tire that was claimed to be good and not on the recall list. I am now stuck with three more tires of the same nature that I feel must be replaced before another tread separation and extensive accident. Please see into all Firestone tires of this type as I am now unsure that any are safe. (tiresize: P275/R15)( dot number: Tire size: P275/R15 )

Rr tire separated while driving down freeway at appx 55 mph. No injuries. Replaced with recalled tire vdhl. I have replaced all 4 tires with Goodyear, as of 8/28/00. Will be reimbursed for 1 tire. Have remaining 3 tires in possession. Believe these should be recalled as well. All show crack along tread near steelbelt line. Believe this is a design problem. I have orig 3 tires and photos of tire that seperated. (dot number: W2hlipy476 tiresize: P235/75R15)

For the last 3 months I have had problems maintaining air pressure in my Wilderness AT tires. At least twice a week 2 out of the 4 tires loses 10 pounds of air pressure. Tires have been looked at by an authorized Ford dealership and I have been told they are fine- no leaks or punctures - yet I am consistently have a problem maintaining proper inflation of the tires. Contacted Ford Motor Company via E-mail on 8/29/00. Their response was to wait for Firestone to recall tires. All Firestone and Ford dealers in the area where I had the inspected agree that the tires show defect marks similar to those being recalled. However, they will not replace them because Firestone will not authorize or has not authorized that particular dot number. Tires are begining to look unsafe to drive at highway speeds. Please advise. From the original purchase of the vehicle, I found that the Wilderness AT tires did not hold the road well under any surface conditions. During the time I had these tires on my truck, I was involved in 2 accidents. When the dealer was unable to align my vehicle after the 2nd accident, I brought the truck to another tire shop (winston tires, canyon country, ca), to have the alignment done, and on inspecting the tires, they found that the 2 of the tires were beginning to separate, and an alignment could not be performed. I replaced the tires with bf goodrich all terrain tires, after which I was able to align the truck. With the new tires I found that my Explorer's handling, braking, steering, and traction were considerably improved. I still have a couple of the original tires which Firestone has generously offered me $10/ tire for since I replaced the Wilderness AT tires prior to 1/1/2000. I feel that Firestone should pay for my replacement tires regardless of when I purchased them. I live in southern California, where summertime temperatures regularly exceed 100 degrees, and the highway is the only way to travel. Please contact me if I can offer any further details on these tires, which I considered the worst tires I ever had, even before the recall began, and frequently expressed this in Ford quality questionaires that they were not doing themselves a favor by putting these tires on their trucks.
