We don't have the recall tires or a problem on our vehicle. But, rather suspect tread separation being caused by anti-lock braking system and disk breaks on all 4 wheels. This can cause more breaking/shear stress on the tread over time. Running at high-speed doesn't simulate breaking, particularly in heavy stop-go commuting which many vehicles are now being used for. Then when they are taken on long high-speed drives, the weakened tread is subject to failure. Testing should include anti-lock brake surging tests and radial break-load simulation.( dot number: )

Not the original tires on Ford Explorer 1995. Front driver's side and rear passenger's side tires have slow leaks, consumer is concerned that they may become flat or blowout. Two tires have slow leaks and the tires are on recall but customer has been waiting for 2 1/2 months to get it fixed.
While driving approximately 70 mph right rear tire tread separated from tire which caused extensive damaged to vehicle. The tire is a Firestone Wilderness AT. Tire size P235/75R15. On Sunday, August 20, 2000 my family and I were driving in our 1995 Ford Explorer when the tread on our Firestone P225/70R15 detached from the tire. I was able to keep my SUV under control and no additional damage was incurred. The tire was original equipment on the Explorer with 37,000 miles on the tires. I am very concerned that the tires on my SUV were not part of the initial recall. I believe this indicates that the defect in manufacture is systemic to all your tire products. I have the tier but not the tread, as it is some where in pieces on the highway. I would like a quick resolution to this matter and request that you pay for the replacement the tires with qualified tires at a dealer of my choice. Please respond promptly, as I need my SUV for immediate transportation.( dot number: W2uu 1mx tire size: P225/70R1 )
On 9/18/99, my father, husband, son and I were involved in a rollover accident on I-10 because of the tread separation on the left rear tire. As a result of the accident, my father was taken by helicopter to a local hospital where he died 2 days later as a result of his injuries. My son was not harmed, my husband suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to the same local hospital, and I had very minor cuts and bruises.( dot number: )
