Vehicle = 2000 Ford Excursion. Ires = Firestone steeltex while traveling on I-80 eastbound from salt lake city, Utah to park city, Utah, the right (passenger side) front tire on the vehicle blew out. The vehicle was traveling at a spped of approximately 55 mph and did not hit any debris or anything else on the road. The tire was completely distroyed. Minor body damage occured. A new Firestone tire was purchased to replace the distroyed tire. There were no injurys or loss of control of the vehicle.
Problems with vehicle's tires on 2000 Ford Excursion. The consumer received a recall notice after he had already replaced his tires with B.F. goodrich 8-ply tires. He contacted the manufacturer but was told that since he didn't have his original tires he would have to pay for the 10 ply replacements. The consumer was told that the manufacturer was voluntarily recalling the 8 ply tires.
In Feb. 2004 I received a letter from Ford recalling the tires I had on my 2000 Ford Excursion. The tires had 44000 miles on them at that time with no failure. We had the replacements put on by capitol city Ford in indianapolis on 03/25/2004. My wife and some family went to Tennessee over the memorial day weekend and on the return trip the driver side front tire blew out. It didn't leak out it blew out. The driver, larry D. mcroberts 317-891-9020, advised he had to use extreem effort to keep the vehicle somewhat straight but it did go into the center median of I 75 just North of lexington Kentucky across one lane of traffic. The tire was changed, with the new spare and they made it back to home. When presented to capitol city for replacement they advise it would only be covered by B. F goodrich @70 % of the cost. That is not the main issue, we had 44000 on "defective" Firestone tires, but could not get 1500 miles out of the replacement goodrich tires and had a potentially serious blow out at highway speed. The goodrich tires are now the standard for the Ford Excursion. The tire that blew had a dot number of 013W384A18003 from the Michelin warranty form number AA5110951. At the dealership a mechanic stated to me, when I brought in the tire, " looks like goodrich took a lesson from Firestone" are these tires failing the same as firestones?
Consumer disappointed in denial of claim regarding complaint 10071543. The consumer replaced the Firestone tires at a non Firestone retail store. The consumer request for reimbursement was denied because they claim that the proper documentation was not provided.
2000 Ford Excursion has an occasional vibration coming from the front of the vehicle. The right front tire had a cut in the sidewall when the consumer first purchased the vehicle. The dealer agreed to replace all of the tires. The consumer noticed a vibration that seemed to be coming from the right rear, with an occasional vibration in the front. It started at about 55 and continued until about 70. The dealer then replaced the rear tires again. They rebalanced all four tires. The vibration was still there. They found this problem in another Excursion but worse.

Reimbursement request solicited by Firestone safety campaign. Numerous splits were discovered in the sidewall off all four tires mounted on the vehicle. After discussions with the dealer, a local Firestone rep agreed to sell the consumer four new Firestone steeltex radial at load range D tires at a prorated price. Ten months later the right rear tire experienced what Firestone refers to as rapid air loss. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle. Once again the tires had to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to a different dealer who indicated that the tire were too light duty for the size and weight of the vehicle. The consumer purchased four Michelin load range E tires. The consumer received a recall in reference to the Firestone tires and requested reimbursement. The letter only offered reimbursement for tires purchased after March 1, 2003.
The replacement tires for the Bridgestone/Firestone rapid recall 04T003000 have not been available for 3 months, and dealership doesn't know when they will be available.
Owner has a 2000 Ford Excursion equipped with steeltex radial A/T tires size LT265/75R16. The vehicle had 1 tire blow out and was left on the side of the road. Owner tried to contact Firestone for road side assistance but Firestone refused. The owner then received help from Goodyear and replaced those tires with Goodyear tires. Now Firestone will not honor the tire recall because the owner was not able to produce the damaged tires. Owner says the tires provide further details.
Firestone refused to reimburse consumer for a tire purchase which occurred before Firestone steelex tire was recalled. Also, it was not a Bridgestone/Firestone tire.
Had steeltex R4S tires on my brand new Excursion (I bought it with 4,752 miles on it and my tire went at 35,001 miles), rotated and my oil changed June 10, 2002. Noticed slits on the sides of these tires. Ford sent me to Firestone. Guy at Firestone assured me these tires were safe and I needed to be sure because I was leaving the next morning on a 1500 mile trip to California, with my 3 children. Back to Ford, tech didn't trust the tire, placed it on back left of my vehicle. June 13, 02 at 35,001 miles, my tire blew. I got to the quartzite exit in Arizona and all of a sudden if felt as though the entire road had changed. Tread separated and slapped the rear left quarter panel, causing damage, and discoloration to my running board. Hp helped me change the tire after calling Ford roadside and telling me it would be 2 hours. Took the tire to Firestone and fritts Ford in riverside, on June 14, 02 told that it definately looked like a defective tire. Went to sam's club and had it replaced with a bf goodrich. Went to kingman, AZ and on June 20, 02 took vehicle to Ford for estimate, per Firestone hotline as to what I needed to do about the tire. On June 21, 02, I sent to Firestone, documentation (letter, pictures, and estimate) of the tire blow out. In late July/to mid August 2002, a letter to me, was addressed to my parents address after telling Firestone that I was on vacation, saying that their determination for my tire was that I was overloaded and underinflated"??? I had 3 kids, an ice chest, a wheelchair, and two suitcases and some bedding in my truck. These tires are designed for 3500 lbs per tire..how was I overloaded and underinflated???"
Complaint about the lack of customer serviced received from Bridgestone/Firestone call center. Consumer seeking reimbursement on tire replacement covered by the manufacturer's safety campaign.
Consumer received a recall letter about a month ago regarding Firestone satellites A/T tires, LT265/75R16 load range, dealer had not received the forms authorizing the replacement of recalled tires.
Consumer previously replaced tires prior to a recall. Manufacturer informed consumer that reimbursement would be in order, if done. Consumer stated that manufacturer refused reimbursement because they could not inspect the tires.
The consumer received a recall notice (04V14) for replacement of tires. The dealer is refusing to replace the tires at this time. Service manager keith ruohuen.
The consumer took the vehicle to a Firestone dealer, who refused to replace the tires with load range E tires. Firestone refused to honor the recall. The consumers claim was denied because the Firestone stated the tires were replaced because of normal wear, however the consumer disagreed and stated that was what the letter stated
When driving at undetermined speed right rear tire blew out. This caused the driver to pull off the road. Consumer changed the tire. Firestone, steeltex radial. Two incidents of tire blow outs, one on the front left side and the other on the left rear side.
While driving, the driver side tire blew out. The consumer stated that the tire just shredded. He stated he still had the wheel and what was left of the tire. The consumer took the tire to a Firestone dealer, after hearing that there had been a recall on the steeltex tires, he stated that the dealer pretty much kicked him out of the door, stating that his tire was not on recall. Consumer stated that he did not have an accident, because of this sudden blow out, but it was because of the handling of his vehicle, which handled very well. The consumer stated that the tire was a steeltex 265 75/16, and had about 45,000 miles on it. He stated he was told that his tire was not included in the recall.
