CarComplaints.com Notes: The top problem trend for the 2014 Escape is transmission failure at around 70k miles.

This is relatively low mileage for an expensive transmission failure ($4,500 average to fix), but unless the trend becomes more established, we are only awarding the 2014 Escape our "Beware of the Clunker" badge for now.

I was driving on the freeway going North. I already sat in backed up traffic for 1 1/2 hours with no issues from my Ford Escape. I put my blinker on and got into the right middle lane. I was going maybe 15 mph and my car just died. No warning, no puttering, no sign of distress at all. I put my hazard lights on and put it in park so I could take the key out and try and restart the car. It wouldn't turn over or anything. My dash board lights were all turning on but absolutely not a sound from the engine or anything. I was stuck in the middle lane of the freeway late at night. I had to call state patrol because it was an emergency. I couldn't take my car out of park so I had to sit there and wait for state patrol and a tow truck. I was there for almost an hour. I was honked at, flipped off, and even threatened. Worst experience on my life. After we got it towed the guy tried to see if he could start it and it started right up for him. All he did was put the key in the ignition. Didn't putter or anything afterwards and stop no light. No one has any clue what could be wrong.

When driving for long distance about more 60 mile (on a highway) I got spontaneous message "power reduced to lower engine temperature" followed by "transmission fault service now" then the car enters limp mode. After about 20 minutes, the car starts accelerating and get back to normal even the two messages above still appears on the dash. Then after a while, the two messages disappear. The car has been checked by the Ford company here at my country, the result was negative and the system appears to be normal. However, the messages above appears only on a highway.

The engine splash shield lost its bolts & fell to the ground dragging underneath the car while driving (the back stayed attached, but the front was down on the ground - like a snow shovel). I was driving, in motion & heard the dragging noise.

When driving my 2014 Ford Escape the vehicle will hesitate and has stalled. This happens when going from a stop and transitioning from 1st and 2nd gear. It sounds very similar to recall number 14V495000 but my vehicle was not covered. These hesitations have caused other drivers on the road to have to slam on their breaks and the vehicle stalled once while making a left hand turn almost resulting in a collision. Thankfully the other driver slammed on their breaks avoiding an accident. This happens every rime we drive this vehicle and when Ford was asked abkut it they could care less. We have been told by Ford it is not their problem.

My car was serviced for the coolant related recall. Less than a month later the low coolant light came on and I brought the vehicle back in for service. They didn't see a leak and believed there must have been an air bubble in the system that worked itself out and added more coolant. Less than a month after that the low coolant light came back on again and I brought the vehicle in to be serviced. They determined that there's an internal leak and coolant had been leaking into the engine. They have recommended replacing the engine and say that this issue is different than the coolant related recall that my car had been originally serviced for. This car is a 2014 with less than 100K miles on it. It should not need a new engine.

I took my car for recall on cooling system to republic Ford in springfield, Missouri on april1st and pick it up on April 4th on April 10th alert come up low on antifreeze so I took my car back to the service department ( kris bishop) service advisor and I explain to him my problem waited about 30 minutes and I told me I am ready to go and the problem fixed. I trusted him when I went home and checked the antifreeze level was and still under the minimum. I called the dealer shop and the lady who answer the call transfer my all to service ring for good 5 minutes and lost the call. If the location of the antifreeze storage easy to get to it I just go buy some and refill it my self. I understand my vehicle is not bought from them and I use them for my oil change doesn't mean tread me this way.

I got into the truck and crank it up as I was leaving work one afternoon and when I turned the radio on the display screen for the rear back up camera and radio went out.. its was flashing white and black and then black with a white line thru it after it kelly flashing turning red green orange with lime just running thru the screen.then about 10 minutes tops it was gone out.. it only takes me 12 minutes to get home from work and it didn't last that long so took it back to my dealership and they don't know what wrong with it. But I have no radio and no camera. I continued to drive around not knowing what was wrong with the truck and one night it make a spark as I was sitting with it running at a fast food drive thru. The smoke was coming from the front vents so it parked it and called the tow truck. Quick towed it back to the dealer who still couldn't figure out a problem they just disconnected the wiring completely so I'm worse off as far as it goes to figure out the problem. I don't see any fixes for these issues but I've seen lots of the same complaints please help

The vehicle was parked stationary while I went inside the office building to run an errand. When I came out, my daughter opened the passenger side door first as I was opening mine and she screamed and smoke and fire came bursting out of the car and all the windows blew out and knocked us both off our feet. The fire department said it was electrical as the engine was still intact.

The instrument cluster multi-function display (mfd) went blank. Exactly as described in Ford recall 15C03. This is a safety problem. The car was manufactured in their lucasville oh plant during the dates mentioned in their recall, however, my VIN was not included in the recall. Since this is the exact same problem listed I suspect they may not have been correct. Ford is not responsive except to say my car is not included in the recall.

Vehicle had a recall for coolant sensor fixed in 01/2018. Since then coolant has run low, been checked numerous times, had hoses replaced, several diagnostic tests looking for problems, car has since overheated, and is now in need of a new engine because of coolant system problem not fixed by a sensor alerting you to a level of fluid. No leak exists so cooling fluid is working its way through the engine system some other way. The problem has persisted for nearly 7 months now. The vehicle ran emergency messages on the dash mere minutes after starting stating that the engine was overheating and to immediately exit the vehicle.

On Wednesday March 13, 2019, I was driving West at approximately 60 miles per hour, on interstate highway 10 in san antonio Texas between fresno dr. And West ave. The hour was approximately 10:00 pm. The weather was clear, temperature was in the middle 60's. traffic was light. Suddenly, I heard a very loud noise, the sunroof glass on my vehicle exploded. I did not see an objects or hear anything that may have caused the glass to break. I had not driven under an overpass or bridge. I exited the freeway at West ave. And entered a 7 eleven parking lot to inspect the damage. The front panel of the sunroof was broken. I inspected the sunroof for evidence of an object that may have hit the glass, but found none. Some of the glass did fall into the space between the roof and the interior panel, but the majority of the glass was still in its original place. It appeared bowed as if the break occurred from the inside out.

My 2014 Ford Escape, with a 1.6L gtdi ecoboost engine, built in louisville, ky in March 2014 leaks engine coolant. I purchased this vehicle on June 6, 2014. I have put my VIN into the NHTSA national recall site and it says my car is not recalled. However, Ford safety recall 17S09 supplemental #1, dated December 13, 2017, and NHTSA campaign number 17V209, affecting 230,000 2014 Escapes clearly states that my vehicle, manufactured in March 2014, should be in the recall since it was built in louisville between Feb 13, 2013 and Sept 2, 2014, the recall timeline. My car, leaking engine coolant, is exactly that described in Ford safety recall 17S09. In the past 10 weeks or so I have noticed coolant on my garage floor and have filled the coolant reservoir at least 8 times. At one time the heater did not work and the reservoir was nearly empty. I am concerned about the possibility of an overheated engine causing the cylinder to crack and spew oil resulting in a possible engine fire. I currently have approximately 39,000 miles on this vehicle. If this vehicle VIN is not recalled, I certainly would like a detailed answer why it is not since it meets all the parameters of safety recall 17S09 supplemental #1 and NHTSA campaign number 17V209. Thank you.
