CarComplaints.com Notes: The top problem trend for the 2014 Escape is transmission failure at around 70k miles.

This is relatively low mileage for an expensive transmission failure ($4,500 average to fix), but unless the trend becomes more established, we are only awarding the 2014 Escape our "Beware of the Clunker" badge for now.

Instrument panel cluster is inoperative. Blank multifunctional display. There has been a recall placed for this issue for safety concerns on vehicles manufactured at the same plant between May 19, 2014 to February 6, 2015. The number for the recall is 15C03. My vehicle isn't included. My vehicle is from the same manufacturing plant, but with the date of March 2014. My car however does have a recall of the coolant system, possible overheated with fire has been reported. I am waiting for parts. If it were to overheat I would have no warning with the instrument panel inoperative. Also with weather changing, I have no warning for proper tire inflation and several other safety concerns. If the recall was placed because a "safety concern" was recognized, how can my vehicle be eliminated in the recall. It's the same safety concern.

On February 2017 I brought a 2014 Ford Escape at about 59 K miles and now it has about 70K miles on it. I was totally clueless as to how unsafe this car was and all of the numerous complaints/issues that consumers are having with this car. On 09/22/2017, this car totally broke down. This car is a safety hazard as I almost got into an accident as the car without made a loud noise, and without any warning just stopped/shut down in traffic. None of the safety indicator alerts worked in this car so I was clueless that the card had any issues. I only owned this car for about 6 months at the time and it was clearly out of warranty. I had the car towed only to find out that it is the transmission, bad battery, ABS issues and possibly an alternator. I was also advised that it was an electrical issues and possible a recall that is why no warnings lights came on to let me know it was a problem. I reached out to Ford who basically said sorry we don't care have a nice day. This car is not safe and should be taken off of the market until Ford can get this in order. I really hope someone look into this matter before someone lose their life.

Recall 14S17 vehicle has hesitated and stalled several times. It has stalled twice after being put in reverse. Eventually car started. There have also been several instances while driving where the vehicle seems to sputter and hesitate but will continue to drive. Yesterday it stalled after being stopped at a red light. Vehicle suddenly lost power after acceleration and would not restart. Vehicle is currently at mechanic's shop and mechanic is reporting an error code of "powertrain control module fail". this vehicle is not safe! this vehicle should be repaired under recall 14S17 as it is a documented issue with 2014 Ford Escape vehicles.

Pullled over on frway into closed lanes, turned off engine. Turned on again to advance 10 ft out of way of onramp vehicles, temp gauge indicated "H", turned off engine. Called for tow, tech could not start eng, battery dead. Towed home (less than 2-4 miles), engine off with ticking sound that could be heard across grill. Today, 10/8/17 this am checked coolant and empty. No indication of eng running "hot" or no fluid low indicator light/warning. The vehicle was in motion being driven when heavy rain began. The wipers would not turn on in any level, manual or otherwise. This created an extreamly dangerous situation with little to no visibility. The dealer did not disclose the problems with the 2014 Ford Escape BCM but indicated was the cause. They however did not replace it, but did charge $450 for diagnosis only. No actual repair was made. This vehicle should be under recall. It is again affecting the wiper control intermittently.

Escape

  • 75,000 miles
My 2014 Ford Escape suddenly hesitates and stalls while driving it, causing a serious safety issue. My Escape has never had any work performed on it beyond new tires and oil changes so this is a manufacturing defect. I took my vehicle to the local Ford dealership for service and was informed it is a problem with the splices in the wiring harness for the map sensor. I was also told it is the exact same problem as Ford's current recall number 14S17 for 2013-2014 Ford Escapes; however my VIN is not covered by this recall due to its manufacturing date. Apparently additional vehicles need to be added to this recall or a new recall needs to be issued as this issue continued on my Ford Escape and Ford has refused to fix my problem since my vehicle is out of warranty due to the number of miles, even though this is clearly a safety issue caused by a manufacturing problem and not a wear and tear issue. I was charged $360.35 to repair my vehicle.

"takata recall" even though I no longer have the car, had them repossessed it. I made very clear when buying I wanted a car I would have no problems with. I hah just filled my tank with gas on my way to see my pain med doctor 80 miles away fuel system quit, at station, this is an in closed system not supposed to go out because my car was still in shop I missed another appointment with this dr. Which resulted in me being put into withdrawals from medication, had I driven there any system had gone out I would have lost control on highway 287 towards wichita falls tx which is extremely heavy traffic. Two times my life was placed in danger because of a recall I was not informed of. Now Ford what's me to pay for what they didn't get from auction I'm not paying for a car that nearly got me killed twice and I don't think they should put this against my credit. I'm considering suing as they cost me my doctor, through me into withdrawals which at the time was life threatening because of health, and possibly losing control on highway at 70 miles which could have cost me my life, now there is another recall about engine fires. Stationary failure with far reaching consequences.

The contact owned a 2014 Ford Escape. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle lost power and the steering wheel seized. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and noticed smoke under the hood. The vehicle burst into flames and the check engine and battery warning indicators illuminated. The fire department extinguished the fire and a fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a towing lot and was destroyed. The manufacturer advised the contact to call her insurance company and did not offer further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

Dealer has been unable to fix this problem and car is unsafe to drive with fear of brakes failing, no speedometer and other warning lights coming on.

Was driving home from work on the interstate. Engine began to jerk a bit then warning messages appeared on screen. Pulled over to side of road. After car stopped smoke began to appear from under hood and entering cab through the vents. I opened the window to clear the smoke and looked for phone number to roadside assistance thinking it was only a belt that had melted or burned. Within a few minutes I began to see flames coming from under the hood by the windshield. I exited the vehicle and a sheriff's deputy happened to be pulling in behind me after seeing my car in distress. Fire department was called. Within five to ten minutes the engine area of the vehicle was engulfed in flames. After a short investigation on the scene the fd believed the cause to be electrical and appeared to have begun and caused the most damage to the passenger side front corner of the engine.

On April 5, 2016, my SUV failed to start, so I checked under the hood. The battery had extensive corrosion. I immediately called aaa, and the technician replaved the battery. October 5, 2016, I noticed that my SUV was hesitant to start normally. After inspecting my battery, a small amount of corrosion was again present. Assuming this was more than a simple battery issue, I made an appointment at my local dealership ' brandon Ford in tampa, fl. I explained the technician my recent history with the battery and showed him the pictures. I explicitly informed him that I did not want a 'band-aid fix' for this issue. After his assessment, the technician advised that he would clean the connections and install anti-corrosion pads and that would solve the issue. On December 30 2016, I visited brandon Ford because my vehicle's 'check engine' light had been illuminated, and the SUV was experiencing stuttering while driving both on my residential street and on the highway. A bit of corrosion was present again. The Ford tech called me after diagnosing the problem and explained to me that it was going to be around $400 to fix the issue ' a poor electrical connection ' by replacing the engine harness signal return splices. He also informed me that this was not covered by warranty. Nonetheless, I chose to complete the service. On February 9th, I reached out to Ford customer service to explain my issue. I have attached all correspondence to and from Ford. They do not feel it is a warranty or major safety issue. I wish to have that re-evaluated.

Failure of the multiple functional display. The display was flickering and difficult to see for a few weeks, but then all of a sudden one day when I started the car it went completely black and has remained so since that time. I can no longer see the display, which is completely black. This includes the odometer, important indicators, and what gear the car is in. This is a significant safety issue that occurred a couple of months after the car left the warranty period by date (>3 years). With no way to read the odometer, this makes it nearly impossible to sell the vehicle at fair market value. The NHTSA has issued recalls on the multiple functional display for other 2014 Ford Escapes, however my VIN is not included in the recall. I believe my car has the same faulty multiple functional display that the recalled vehicles have.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled intermittently without warning. A warning code (P0087) illuminated on the instrument panel, which indicated trouble with the fuel rail. The contact waited thirty seconds and then resumed driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V005000 (fuel system, gasoline). The contact also received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16V643000 (latches/locks/linkages) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available. Updated 04/06/17 the consumer stated the manufacturer was contacted about the vehicle stalling. The manufacturer advised the vehicle was not included in a recall; therefore, no assistance was offered. Updated 08/22/2017
