CarComplaints.com Notes: The top problem trend for the 2014 Escape is transmission failure at around 70k miles.
This is relatively low mileage for an expensive transmission failure ($4,500 average to fix), but unless the trend becomes more established, we are only awarding the 2014 Escape our "Beware of the Clunker" badge for now.

This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I had a faulty instrument cluster repaired, which apparently is a recurring issue with this model of vehicle. In fact, my car is only 3 months outside the period that would have qualified it for a recall for this exact issue. It-??s clear that this vehicle should have qualified for recall, as the mechanic who repaired it was happy to admit. Myself and other Escape owners who have experienced this same issue with slightly newer cars should be eligible as well.
lost power, didn't seem to get into dive on freeway could't get power on to freeway when at a stop take time to get power up to a good speed Car at AAMCO for inspection needed to re build leaking bad brushing No did not get any warning warning light came on as i went to AAMCO of low coolant only
Lights come on for engine and gas pump while in motion throws vehicle to right at 55 mph when gas light comes one says empty all the time does at stops too slams into next gear shaking car badly with a bang it does often enough at 1/2 tank only or below but does not read more than 1/8 tank from full when filling up at pump all the time
The wipers became slow and erratic, then stopped when headlights were turned on. The lights also were affected as they became dim or out depending on the selection of Hi, Low or Driving. The wipers could have failed during a storm, or the headlights could have become inoperative with no warning. The problem was reproduced at the dealer and inspected as well. There was no indication that there was a problem until the wipers and lights were operated. There could have been more systems that were failing we did not notice as the problem was all of the grounding wires were on painted surfaces. There are several Service Bulletins on this car and the Ford Focus in the same model year range. I have correspondence from the dealer that indicates the problem. Although our car did not fall under these bulletins, I feel this should be a recall since any electric component could fail with no warning by the design of these cars.
Battery dies, for no apparent reason, alternator test done and was good. After putting in drive car started forward then trans slipped and car stalled would not restart. Vehicle had to be towed. Replaced battery 2 times before and still drains and dies. Checked system for power drains and found none.

When putting my vehicle into reverse it wouldn't go into gear it was stuck in a neutral position unless it was in park. If I would step in the gas it would just rev up the engine.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine, the transmission, the manifold, and the computer needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
My dash lights never indicated any low oil. Ended up running out of oil and I started keeping track. I was putting in a qt a day. No visible signs on motor or ground of oil leak. But smoke in tail pipe. Then today the motor blow completely even w oil in it. I searched up my make and model. Their are tons of recalls for the oil leak ad I said, and for the instrument panel not working. But my dealership said I have no recalls what's so ever and non have been done on this car. Some of those recalls I read said it could catch fire!!
2014 Ford Escape titanium taken in for every recall, and maintained. While driving on a 3 lane road going 40 mph the windshield wipers went on full speed (not raining) and would not/could not turn them off. After about 5 minutes they went down to slow speed. Then the car lost power, no steering or brakes. No way to stop or steer the car. It slowed and finally came to a clunky stop. Flames were coming out of the bottom of the car onto the road at that time. Within 1-2 minutes the flames were coming from the top of the engine, up and over the hood onto the top and over the car completely.
The car started to delay and wouldn't accelerate while I was on a three lane interstate going 70mph then shortly after that it would make a loud boom sound that would shake the vehicle everytime it was shifted into any of the gears. It won't accelerate at all now. It will move forward and bsckward automatically when put into gear but will only rev when the gas pedal is pressed
Car dash board electrical wiring has gone bad. Originally the information on screen was fading and after about a month no longer shows any information. Ford stated the entire panel would need to be replaced, involving re-reading engine mileage and programming keys again for $700. Did not get that fixed as it's not a necessity. Driver window motor failed without warning while driving with the windows up. Now the engine has been reading a turbo issue but it cannot be determined if it's the actual turbo boost or the waste gate. This lead to transmission skipping and ultimately stalling while driving on highway and then city roads and having to restart car several times to make it home and then towed the car to local mechanic shop who stated transmission needs to be replaced for $4500. Along with a fuel line issue that had already been repaired 2 years prior and again unable to confirm why the turbo sensor code is popping up. Car is used for typical daily driving with children and should not have these issues. There are recalls for this make/year but not on my specific VIN though they are similar issues. The cost to repair the vehicle is more than it is worth and I'm very unsatisfied with the longevity of it. I did get the recall for my doors done after one day driving and a back door opened on its own, come to find out they still need to replace the other doors.
What can cause my 1.6L Ford Escape titanium 2014 to be hesitant when I push down on gas and then suddenly the power kics in back after about 5 seconds. It like its not getting enough gas at the start! no check engine on - jc tampa
We have an electrical problem where sometimes phone will not work or automatically connect. The radio goes out and we also have and issue the the trunk not opening or closing when rear button or dash button is pushed. I am concerned that this issue may give other trouble in the future. This happens almost ever other day
The power steering assist fault. I am unable to turn the steering wheel. It is hard to turn. When starting the car the error message power steering assistant fault. I comes on and goes off.
Purchased from Ford dealership while living in New York. Under the warranty, check engine light came on and fuel line was repaired in 2016 (Ford co), I never received any correspondence regarding any recalls from Ford comp. Same issue occurred and I had to pay $2K to repair it because I was not aware of any recalls. I moved to waxhaw, nc in 2017. After the same issue occurring, I called the Ford Motor Company in lancaster, SC (moved here in 01/2020). I found out about the multiple "recalls" only when I called Ford co in lancaster. I was never mailed any recalls. The Ford co found recalls and I took it to them on 3/11/2020. Note that they did not offer me a loaner car, even though it was recall work. I picked it up the same day and two days later, it overheated yet again. I called Ford co and spoke to jatoya and jamie. On March 17,2020, it stalled and then stopped while I was driving on the hwy. Check engine light came on again. I took it to Ford co and they stated it had multiple issues that would cost me $6,700.60 to repair! they replaced the coolant level sensor and a leak. On the NHTSA vehicle safety recall site, I discovered 5 recalls. Recall#'s 17V472000 (7/25/17),15V406000 (6/24/15)-electrical/instrument panel, 15V005000(1/9/15)-fuel system/gas delivery, fuel pump), 17V209000(3/27/17)-engiine/engine cooling), & 14V403000(7/2/14). I believe this should qualify as "lemon law" or an explanation as to why I received no notices regarding these significant recalls. Lastly, I trust that you will resolve these issues in a timely manner, provide me with a cost free loaner vehicle, and allow me to trade in this vehicle for another one (considering the costs and inconvenience incurred to myself and the innate possible injuries that could have occurred during the time that I was unaware of these. Luckily had just stopped and put the vehicle in park, steering wheel shook, and then received error message of 'steering assist fault service required'. placed the car in reverse and realized I had no power steering. Performed a code scan and received a U3000 error. Taking vehicle to Ford tomorrow for additional diagnostics.
