Warning light appeared on dashboard. Vehicle eventually had a very difficult time moving forward and would not go more than 5 mph uphill. Took vehicle to Ford dealer service center for diagnosis. The report from dealer states, "Verified concern, scanned for fault codes and found codes P01229, P0301 SN P00012. Pressure tested coolant system and found coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The technician advised to correct condition the long block would need to be replaced." (Attaching a copy of the report). Subsequent internet searches demonstrate that this is a known problem with Ford engines.

2018 Ford Edge - 53000 miles. Missfire for #2, constantly for almost a year. Had coils and spark plugs replaced numerous times but keeps happening. Ford Service stated that coolant is leaking causing this and it is a manufacturer defect. Engine needs to be replaced, estimated cost $7500.

100,000 Miles ad 2 months out of warranty -- dealer indicated the check engine light code of P0302 is a collant intrusion and the entire engine needs to be replaced for $10,454. This appears to be a reoccuring problem with Ford Edge Ecoboost.

The engine began having a misfire around 58k miles and low coolant levels. No coolant drips or leaks were detected on the exterior. After some research I found that the 2.0 Ecoboost used in these vehicles is prone to coolant intrusion due to a defective engine block. After a trip the car unexpectedly would not start, it would crank over but it would not start. After sending it to my dealer they confirmed coolant intrusion and explained the car needed a new engine. The car was bought certified used, every service was done on time at a Ford dealer. There was no way to avoid the defective engine in this car, no amount of preventative maintenance would stop this from happening. Ford has a bulletin out on these engines, so they know there's an issue. There's no reason for a low mileage well cared for vehicle to need a replacement engine at 60k miles.

Faulty engine design (thin wall between coolant chamber and cylinders) allows for coolant to enter the cylinders. This leads to an overheating engine (that can catch fire) and ultimately creates a blown head gasket. This is a common issue in the Ford EcoBoost engines. There is a TSB on the 1.5 liter engines, but not the 2.0 on this model. There is currently a large lawsuit happening for this reason. Vehicles with under 60k miles are getting blown engines for this problem, most people still owe several thousand dollars on their vehicle when this happens.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that on one occasion the "Engine Overheating" message was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and failed to accelerate as intended. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and turned off for several minutes. The contact stated that coolant was added to the coolant reservoir. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to a coolant leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.

While driving vehicle on [XXX] Ocala, FL engine spontaneously overheated, which caused an immediate loss of engine power and a temporary loss of directional control as the power steering no longer functioned. I had the vehicle first towed to my house, and then had it towed to Gary Yeomans Ford Ocala. Their diagnosis led them to insist that coolant is intruding into the cylinder through the block itself, and the recommended course of action (under a very well known TSB) is to replace the long-block assembly. Ford is refusing to acknowledge this is a serious manufacturing defect that impacts customer safety, exposing the driver and the driving public to the possibility of an engine fire due to overheating, an accident due to inability to maintain directional control of the vehicle in an overheat scenario, and myriad other potential life-safety issues. Ford is making zero effort to assist their customers - a long block and assembly is almost $8000 - I barely had the money to make the payments and this may very well send me into bankruptcy. Brought vehicle to dealership for service on a shifter boot recall. The check engine light first came on when we gave the vehicle to the Dealership, and they said there was a misfire on Cylinder #2. Due to this, the entire engine was replaced with 85,000 miles as per a Technical Service Bulletin. This damage was due to a defective design and luckily, we did work with Ford corporate to get the price down since the vehicle was out of warranty. Never had any signs of an issue until one day in April 2024 when the engine started running rough when started up in the driveway. It was rocking the vehicle side to side. Just received the vehicle back this week with a new engine. Please let me know if any additional information is needed.

My check engine light came on but it was driving fine and we checked all of the fluids and everything was okay and the light went off and then two days later I had a alert pop up while driving that my engine was hot and overheating pull over to find that I have no coolant randomly and we don-??t know where it-??s going. Had it looked at and they couldn-??t figure out where it was going either. Two weeks pass and I-??m driving on the highway and my car starts shaking and the check engine light is flashing while white smoke is blowing out from exhaust and from under my hood and had to call 911 because I thought my car had caught fire. Pulled over to find all of my oil all under my car and all on the ground. Had the car towed back home so I could take it to the shop as the incident happened on Memorial Day. The shop looked at it and figured it was my head gasket valve covers so I had that replaced just for oil to still be leaking and now come to find out that it-??s seaming to be my cylinder has gone out along with multiple other issues. Finding out that ford knows about this issue with these vehicles irritates me even more. The car is still in shops a month later.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, there was a misfire and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was first diagnosed that a tune-up was needed then the vehicle was diagnosed as a failure with oil leaking into the head gasket, and the engine needed to be repaired. The final diagnostic test determined that the engine block was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

2018 Ford Edge 2.0l ecoboost engine exhibits a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke is white and/or a runs rough condition with illuminated malfunction code P300 Cylinder 3 misfiring. Level gets so low that the engine will overheat, and we shut the car down. After cooling we fill the over fill reservoir back up. This lasts for 1.5 to 2 weeks. No visible leaks anywhere.

Coolant intrusion into cylinder number 2. Engine runs really rough and we cannot drive it until we get the engine replaced. A KNOWN issue that ford isn't covering even though they released a TSB stating it is a manufacturer defect because they made the cylinder walls too thin between cylindersnumber 2 and 3. Myself and who knows how many others are out $5000 to $9000 for repairs on vehicles we still owe a lot of money on. Some of these failures have lead to engine fires. Now I have a $40k car in my garage I can't drive for fear of fire and have to spend a fortune to fix. Please make ford own up to this and fix our vehicles!

Recently, I purchased a 2018 Ford Edge from an outside dealership. I have been dealing with a misfire since November of 2023. A few days after I got the car the engine light came on, the dealership I bought it from supposedly "fixed" the car three times. First time was a bad coil in cylinder 1 thought it was fixed a few days later engine light comes back on I go to O'reilly's to get a free diagnostic check and it says misfire cylinder 1 so i take it back to them they say someone over lubed some parts putting it back in, they fix it. Now after this second time around is when I start noticing my coolent is disappearing and then a few days go by engine light comes back on and now im starting to feel thw miafire slightly so i let them know thinking it could be why im having a misfire. so i take it back in this time it was a clogged full injector in cylinder 1 and then they also check my coolent but i got charged for that "seperate" diagnosis they couldnt find anything leaking or any back head gasket so thought it was all good to go then a week goes by and the engine light comes back on now this time i tell them and thwy have me take it do a different shop for a second opinion, and they found coolent leaking into my cylinder 1. I called Ford to let them know because I am aware that this particular 2.0L ecoboost engine is under recall in a lot of cars and when i looked it up it said that 2015-2018 forde ege models qualifyfor this 2020 ford ecoboist engine recall but the ford service lady said they will not help me because my specific VIN number is not included in the recall, but for my safety and the fact that the engine was under recall I beleave they should fix my car.
