CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2016 Edge is starting to show a similar trend to the prior model year of the engine stalling while driving, which owners report is typically caused by low-mileage problems with the throttle body. This is typically considered a safety defect.

Engine shut down while driving with no warning. Vehicle entered "accessory mode" which kept all of the instruments light up, was able to steer off the road and re-start the car. Vehicle was in motion on a city street with heavy traffic.

Driving down the interstate at 80 mph in motion when the car started to go into 'limp mode.' The dash stated there was 'low oil pressure' and 'check airbags.' Within the next three seconds the car started to lose power and power steering was shut off. The car started slowing down at a dramatic rate leaving me stranded. After the car killed the engine I was not able to restart the car. The car would turn over, but not hold power it would die immediately. I was finally able to start the car after waiting 10 minutes. The car would start and hold power. The check engine light and airbag light were on. I was only able to drive a mile before the problem would start all over again. This has happened to me on multiple occasions averaging about every 2,000 miles. It has happened in blizzard conditions, rain, and on a 50 degree day. Also while driving 35 mph and on a highway got 55 mph. I have taken the car into Ford and they told me there is nothing wring with the car. When plugging the car into the system to look for the problem they stated nothing shows up, even with the check engine light on.

2016 Ford Edge titanium approx. Mileage 7600 date: Friday September 8, 2017 time: Approximately 12:45 P.M. location: Southbound on waukegan road/us highway 41 near intersection with casimir pulaski drive (lighted intersection), waukegan Illinois driving southbound in left lane on highway 41 at about 40 mph. Right lane closed for construction work. Weather clear and dry. Roadway flat and straight. Sudden lack of acceleration even with increased pressure on gas pedal. Dash service light (orange warning) 'hill assist not available' with wrench. Also noticed airbag light was lit. Hit brake pedal to light up the warning lights for traffic behind me and also turned on the hazard flashers. Car engine continued to run but the car would not go above about 1 mph. Since right lane and shoulder were not accessible, I turned left at pulaski drive to get onto a slower-moving, less-trafficked roadway and pulled to the shoulder. Car was barely moving. Turned off the ignition and waited approximately 20-30 seconds. Turned the car back on and no error messages were displayed. Tested forward and reverse gears while on the shoulder and felt normal acceleration. Made a U-turn back onto pulaski drive, turned left onto highway 41/waukegan road and drove home. Service on 9/12/17 ' only error code was B1111 described by tech as 'ABS parking brake', code cleared by tech. Service on 9/19/17 ' complete diagnostics run ' no error codes. No resolution.

  • 6,287 miles
Driving down a straight road at 50 mph on highway 41 and the check engine light / wrench icon came on at the same time I had lost all power to engine. Had to coast to side of road the car would not go any faster than 5 mph. After stopping I turned off engine and restarted it and it would not idle under 2500 rpms. Stop engine again it seemed to be ok then but still could not drive any faster than 5 mph. I ended up calling a tow truck. I thought at the time that something was wrong with the throttle body of the engine. 1 year old Ford with 6,287 miles and had just been in the shop for an oil change 2 weeks earlier. No recall on it was listed per dealership. If I was in very heavy traffic or rain it could of been really bad really fast. The tow company towed it to the local Ford dealership and they did say it was the throttle body and they would fix it under warranty. I thought Ford had fixed already. Anyway pickup car on Wednesday 5.31. Hope it it fixed now...

Purchased vehicle in Nov of 2016. In Feb of 2017 I received a message on dashboard that my oil pressure was low. After checking oil we discovered it was 3 quarts low. Though maybe it was not filled all the way by the dealer. On March 27th we brought the vehicle into the dealership because again the oil was 3 qts low. On March 28th the dealer called to say that they had a memo from Ford stating something was wrong with the engine and that they would have to replace the entire engine! (now that's scarry) also received in the mail that there is a compliance recall call 17C02 for airbags. In specific the drivers airbag. Parts for this recall will not be available until late second quarter 2017. I feel this vehicle is a disaster, not safe, afraid to drive and that Ford should just give me a new one!! very disappointed with Ford. We are Ford car buyers and have been for at least 20 yrs.

Stopped at a red light in 2016 Ford Edge. When light turned green, attempted to make left turn. Vehicle would not accelerate through the intersection and appeared to stall. Turned vehicle off, restarted and again vehicle would not accelerate. With vehicle barely moving, was able to get out of way of three lanes of oncoming traffic but now stuck in the middle of the intersection. When traffic cleared, was able to make left turn and crawled at about 2-3mph with hazard lights on. At this time, wrench yellow warning light was displayed. Drove at that extremely slow speed until reached the left turn lane at the next intersection where could safely pull over and park. Tried several times to restart but continued to receive wrench warning light. That was then replaced with a check engine yellow warning light. Vehicle would still not accelerate. Vehicle was towed to dealer. An eec test was run and had code P2111. The throttle body was replaced with part at4Z-9E926-B. this was under warranty since just 17,276 miles on the vehicle. It is unnerving when gas pedal could be pushed all the way to the floor and still barely move. This incident was very scary and fortunate vehicle was not hit and there were no injuries.

Car has died multiple times at high rate of speed. Dealer says no codes thrown. Used 3 quarts oil before 5000 miles. Exhaust smoked horribly. Deceleration issues constantly. Last time it died on freeway dealer said throwing codes and engine needs replacing. They have had vehicle since December 14 2016. They tried to replace heads and it blew up engine. Car has less than 9000 miles. Vehicle died multiple times on freeway. Deceleration issues occurred both from full stop and acceleration on freeway entrance ramp. Vehicle has been in shop 3-4 times since purchased in late August 2016.

While driving at a high rate of speed (70mph) on a major highway, my car lost power. I tried pressing the gas pedal, but there was no response. It was a very dangerous situation, since the care lost speed quickly, and I was driving in the far left lane and had to navigate to the right shoulder in rush hour traffic. It was also very dangerous because the car broke down in detroit. I was able to get to the shoulder, and restart the vehicle to try to get off the highway. While trying to get to a better location, the car lost power two more times, while in street traffic. Again, very dangerous. Since this is a brand new Ford Edge (2016), with under 10,000 miles, it was taken to the dealer, who found a defective throttle body assembly. They replaced the throttle body assembly, and because there is still no recall on that part, it could very well have been replaced with another defective part, leaving me at risk again for injury, or worse. While investigating the issue, I found that several other people have experienced the same issue, dating back to over a year ago. The vehicle was in motion in moderate traffic going approximately 45mph when the engine unexpectedly shutoff and the accelerator became non-responsive. Was able to carefully coast the vehicle to the shoulder, put in park, and restart the vehicle. Extremely concerned that this happened as I'm traveling out of state with my family on vacation. We purchased this vehicle brand new within the last 60 days and it has less than 2,000 miles on it. We thought we were getting rid of a lemon vehicle when we traded in for this, but although our last vehicle had a lot of issues it wasn't nearly as concerning or dangerous as this 1 issue with the Ford Edge. There should be an immediate nationwide recall.

Driving down the road and the vehicle suddenly went to idle. Had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. The car was still idling but when I tried to give it gas, nothing happened. I shut the car off, restarted and it worked fine. Approx. 10 miles later, did the same thing. Car only has 9,200 miles. I drive the interstate daily and this is going to be very dangerous if it happens there. Will be at the dealer at 9:00am sharp tomorrow.
