CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2016 Edge is starting to show a similar trend to the prior model year of the engine stalling while driving, which owners report is typically caused by low-mileage problems with the throttle body. This is typically considered a safety defect.

My 2016 Ford Edge started rough starting for a couple of weeks and then the engine light came on. Had the car scanned #2coil pack issue. Replaced spark plugs. Lasted a week. Engine light back on with rough start and when I would go from a stop it would hesitate. Scanned again #2 coil pack.replace #2 coil pack. Lasted almost a week. Engine light back on same problems. Replaced all the coil packs. Lasted 1 day. Then car overheated on the highway. I took it to the dealership to find out it needs an engine. Coolant is leaking into the #2 cylinder. Car has 116,000 miles and Ford will not cover any of the repair.

At 35,000 miles, when starting and then while running car started hesitating and check engine light came on. Initially dealer reported it was a spark plug and they replaced it only to have the same issue arise two days later. Back at the dealer an analysis showed that a leak in the cooling system caused fluid to enter into the 3rd cylinder which then cracked the engine. 7 weeks later a new engine was replaced. Only guaranteed for 1 year and original cause of issue (design flaw) not corrected so likely to happen again when out of warranty. Known technical service bulletin on this issue with numerous engine failures and re-failures including vehicle stopping when driving.

Check engine light came on on my 2016 Ford Edge around 60000 miles. Code reader indicated misfire on cyl 3. after changing the spark plugs as a potential fix, the issue came back. Rough idles when starting but usually would go away after a few seconds. Last time I went to start it, white, sweet smelling smoke began pouring out of the exhaust. Shut off the engine immediately. Several other documented cases of coolant leaking into cylender leads me to believe this is a head gasket or another engine destroying issue. Having the car towed to our mechanic now.

Vehicle has stalled multiple times while driving or stopped at a stop light without warning. "accessory power" remains on so lights, power steering etc. The first two times it happened I was at a stop light and had to place the car in park to restart the vehicle which took multiple attempts until the vehicle would remain running. Today the vehicle stalled while coming off of a highway, I had to pull over multiple times to restart the vehicle when ever I took my foot off the gas as the vehicle would stall. I barely made it to work. I am wondering why there is not a recall on the vehicle for this issue as Ford did recall the 2017 Edge for similar problems.

2.0L ecoboost, 40,000 miles, fwd, engine tries to stall when coming to stop at traffic light, rough idle, makes groaning or thrumming sound similar to helicopter. No power when using accelerator, engine off then on clears issue. Read P2196 code, cleaned maf sensor, but stalling returned. Random, not regular failure, so not able to recreate on demand. No fault code logged most recent incident. Has occurred 4 times over last month

While driving the vehicle on the interstate, three different times it suddenly, without warning, lost all power and shutdown the car. No power, lights, power steering, etc. I had to coast to a stop on a major interstate. Once I was stopped, turned off the car and it restarted like nothing happened. These events were very dangerous. Once was when it was raining so when the car lost power, the wipers stopped at 70 mph so I had to navigate to the shoulder without being able to see. A second time was at night driving 70 mph, when it shutdown, I lost headlights and I couldn't see. It was terrifying as I was in a remote area of I-49 without any lighting to navigate to the shoulder. Again, once stopped and put in park, it restarted immediately. Please note, I'm not the owner of this car. I was driving it as a loaner from a used car dealership. This problem was so serious I am reporting directly to the NHTSA as this car had no recalls to address. Someone is going to get injuries or die. I was terrified.

My check engine light read 'crank case pressure sensor' and while I was driving the 'add coolant' light came on and before I got to the next town, the warning light came on notifying me that the engine was going to switch into the engine saving mode being that it needed more coolant emergently. I used nearly a gallon of coolant the next couple of days and brought the vehicle to a Ford dealership" for diagnosing and servicing. They said I had a cracked block due to the fact that the water pump is located inside the engine instead of outside of the engine on these vehicles which has been raising havoc in a lot of these engines because it doesn't make the proper seal causing a leak to occur and the material they use for their water pump is very thin and often times causes a leak from the coolant that goes directly into the engine which it did in my situation and cause the engine to crack. If I had been driving down the road when this would've happened it would've been detrimental to myself, my passengers and other people on the road at that time!

Have a 2016 Ford Edge at about 64,00 miles my check engine light kept coming on and off, car was also sputtering when I started it and sounds like it will stall. I keep having to refill coolant. Took it to 3 different dealers who all said a code of P0302 they all told me it was a manufacture defect of the coolant part not being flush on the engine. I filed a complaint through Ford who has done nothing for me because I'm out of the manufacturing warranty. The service manager informed me several cars all having the same issue but under mileage for warranty. Car isn't even paid off and feel like I was sold a lemon, now I need a new engine and can't afford one! wish Ford would take better care of their customers!!! my engine could blow!!!!!I can't even get my car serviced until December 30th because dealership has so many cars with the same problem. I have contacted a lemon law lawyer in the hopes they can do something for me.

My car has started to shake very badly, at lights, stop, start, all times. Coolant is leaking into the cylinder head causing it to misfire constantly and causing the shakes. This was repaired once already in 2017, but the repair has failed and is happening again. Ford says I need a new engine but I'm outside my warranty and they are not willing to cover the full repair. They have a tsb 19-2208 that has been updated in June of 2019 to change the repair for cylinder replacement to engine replacement. This issue can cause the car to overhead and stall if not caught right away.

Internal leak from oil valve/switch allowed fumes to leak into the car for months and months and exposed the driver to toxins; blood work revealed high levels of mtbs; symptoms include extreme exhaustion, vision and cognitive problems, balance issues itchy skin, and more. First, the fumes should never leak into the car, second, the Ford service department said it was ok to drive while they ordered a part, and it was not ok to drive because it was poisoning the driver. The car has now been fixed, the driver's recovery is ongoing.

Since purchased as a certified pre owned, there is always a very noticeable clicking noise from the engine when cold, and gradually quiets when warmed up... similar to a sticking valve lifter. The servicing dealer checked with Ford and said the engineers are working on the issue, but there are no repairs for this condition and it will not harm the engine.

Car stalls out and loses power and symptoms have the potential to be fatal. This usually happens under acceleration and has almost caused 2 rear-end accidents. As I accelerate the car thumps when the engine stalls and then the car loses all acceleration. This sudden loss of power is especially dangerous when happening on the highway or ramp getting up to the highway. These are the two places it consistently happens. The car has been taken to the dealership to be serviced 5 times for the same issue without resolution. I won't let my family drive the car for fear of injury to her. I'm paying for a defective product. I do not feel safe in this vehicle and I don't get the sense that Ford is trying to fix the root issue.
