CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Ford Edge has a trend of the engine dying while driving, which is typically considered a safety issue.
Owners report the stalling while driving problem is caused by the throttle body needing replacement. The problem typically occurs at low mileage & so the issue has been covered under warranty -- although by now, the 2015 Edge is generally past the full warranty period.

My 2015 Ford Edge has had the engine light turn on and off since April. After finding out that there is a misfire in the 4th cylinder, we replaced the spark pugs and the problem seemed to go away. However, about a month later, the engine light was back on and the car was have difficulty on cold start. Took in to Ford and was told coolant is leaking into the 4th cylinder and the only fix would be to replace the entire engine.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle would vibrate while at a complete stop without warning. He also stated that the vehicle would vibrate upon turning on the air conditioning. The contact took the vehicle to rockwall Ford (990 E interstate 30, rockwall, tx 75087) where he was informed that the flex plate fractured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a claim was filed. Since filing the claim, no further assistance was offered. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 100,984.
Flexplate cracked. Only 53,000 miles and requires a new short block engine replacement. The flexplate is noted to be a defective part from Ford. This should not happen on a vehicle with only 53,000 miles. The crankshaft, pistons, flexplate, torque converter and many more parts all have to be replaced on my vehicle. This issue could result in serious crash or even death.
My 2015 Ford Edge has only 16,500 miles on it as I only use it on occasion. This week the powertrain symbol came on and a few minutes later the check engine light came on!! I was driving on the freeway when this occurred.
Engine light kept coming on and then turning off. Had car inspected and there was a misfire in cylinder 3. after further inspection, there is coolant leaking into the 3rd cylinder. The only fix is to replace the engine.

The Ford Edge has a cracked flexplate and emits a rattling noise and Ford will not address the problem. A cracked flexplate should not happen, let alone at 50K. The vehicle now sounds like a diesel and puts the driver and others at risk. Should the flexplate fail, the resulting damages and injuries could be deadly. This happens are startup and when slowing down.
I was driving during my normal routine, from picking up my baby at daycare to go home when a rattle noise suddenly started. It was not too loud in the beginning, but as I approached the house, the noise started getting louder and louder mostly when idling at stop signs or red lights, for example. The 2015 Ford Edge AWD 2.0 L ecoboost is 4.5 years old and has 66,000 miles. The day after, I took the car to a Ford dealership and was told that the flex plate was broken and so is pretty much everything that is attached to it including the crankshaft, torque converter, and fluid pump and that I would need to replace the whole engine. Ford provided me a case number, but no further assistance since the vehicle is no longer under warranty. The car is currently at the authorized dealership. I was quoted $7,300 to fix the vehicle. A problem with a flex plate can be very dangerous as I'm understanding that they transmit the power from your engine to the transmission. I could have lost my ability to control the vehicle's power. A bad flex plate could potentially cause a loss of power to the wheels and result in an accident. In addition, the flex plate broke the crank shaft and torque converter, which also prevents the engine to function properly. My vehicle is less than 5 years old and this has happened already with it. I'm fortunate to have not suffered an accident because of this.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, an abnormally loud sound emanated from the engine without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the flex plate on the flywheel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Corwin Ford tri cities located at (1225 N auto plex way, pasco, wa 99301, (888) 379-9774, was contacted by phone and informed of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not subjected to a recall. No additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. While the vehicle was idling, a rattling and knocking noise was present coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to all star family Ford (13301 interstate 27, amarillo, tx 79119) where it was diagnosed that the engine flex plate was cracked. The flex plate was replaced, but the failure recurred approximately 18 months later. The manufacturer provided case number: 24397434. No further assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 58,000.
I started my car and turned on to a busy street. My car then slowed to an almost immediate stop. I received an error message stating hill assist unavailable (I wasn't on a hill at all), then a wrench light appeared along with an engine light and airbag light turned on as well. I was unable to accelerate when pushing the petal. Meanwhile there is traffic behind me forced to move around my vehicle almost causing serious accidents.
My vehicle lost power while driving down the highway at 70mph. We had just left a scenic overview where the car had been shut off. Accelerated up a hill and drove for a few more miles on flat, straight roadway and the dash went black. The cruise control was on but not in use. Lost all power, however steering was responsive and brakes worked.. day temp ~85 degrees. Vehicle miles=48000. Steered to shoulder, put car in park and hit the ignition button. The car restarted. Called my local Ford dealership and was told that cars are so computerized now that they need to be rebooted occasionally and to call back of it continues to happen. Per cargurus site this has been an ongoing problem since 2009. Most consumers citing a defective throttle bottle assembly. What's it going to take to get this on a recall? this is a major defect. I am afraid to drive my vehicle. Zero confidence.
When pulling into a parking space in a parking lot, I stepped on the brake and the engine surged and speeded ahead hitting a building where the air bags deployed.
After driving the car under normal conditions for the first 40K miles it started to make rattling noises. Took it to the dealer and it had a broken flywheel. 18K miles later it has another broken flywheel
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. While operating the vehicle, a rattling noise was heard from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the flex plate was cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred approximately 40,000 miles later. Tallassee Ford (1618 gilmer ave, tallasee, al) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,328.
I have owned the vehicle for 9 months. 1st occurrence on 3/31/19, accelerating to merge on highway and vehicle shuddered, lost engine power and went into limp mode. I limped it home and after about 10 minutes I started the vehicle and it drove fine... until 2nd occurrence on 4/4/19... this time was driving about 35-40 mpg approaching an intersection when the vehicle lost all engine power and I coasted to the stop light, put in park, shut off vehicle and restarted... it then drove normally. I have been lucky twice. The 1st occurrence was scary as I was just getting on the highway with cars approaching me from behind very quickly not knowing that I could only go about 20mph. The 2nd occurrence I was very lucky to have gotten a red light just as I was coasting to the intersection. At this point I don't trust my vehicle and am scared to drive it knowing that at any time, I may lose power and not be so lucky. I have had zero problems for 9 months and now 2 of these issues in 5 days... what's next?
We've been experiencing an intermittent exhaust and sulfur odor in the cabin of our vehicle since we purchased it last July. The odor is present while running and parked, while idling at stop lights, while coasting along with traffic on the freeway, while accelerating or not, speed does not seem to matter. The fumes and odor have gotten stronger and have become so strong that we can't even drive the vehicle with the windows down. Our whole family has experienced headaches and severe nausea while riding in the car on both long and short trips. My daughter almost passed out on a recent hour long drive. We brought the vehicle to the service center twice now. The first time they replaced the cabin air filter. The vehicle is currently at the dealer service center. After we mentioned the sulfur smell we were told they would have to contact Ford Motor Company hq and open a case.
Owned for 5 months. Engine has died twice while driving like others with display showing "full power accessory active". both have been at low speed (around 5-10 mph) and have had to place in park before I could restart the engine. One was decelerating from ~25 mph on a residential street, and the other was while driving through an apartment complex. Takes about 30 seconds to figure out what is happening and restart.
Just driving down rural road doing 45 mph, engine just shut off, warning came up said transmission not in park, put in park it restarted and was fine the remainder of trip
When driving my vehicle, the rpms sky rocket but won't change. It's not shifting gears as an automatic is supposed to. Also, the engine has been making a weird noise on and off and when we took it in, they turned it on and pressed the gas and said it was fine. Never had it on record or anything. The fuel pump went out about 23K and now the car is having the same issue at 50K with the fuel pump or the same symptoms as it did before having the car lunge forward or vibrate.
Since I purchased the vehicle it has been making a jerking effect after it passes 1st gear to 2nd. The jerking effect seems to be coming from the motor. I took it to the dealer and the dealer said there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. To this day it still has the jerking effect.
