While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

The engine on my Edge was dying while in motion. Usually it would happen when I was coming to a stop or as I was turning. The steering control went out (due to no engine power), and the panel displayed the error message "Low Engine Oil Pressure". I would turn it off, then start it right back up and continue. It happened once or twice a day for 3-4 days in a row before I was able to get it to the repair shop. Days before this started happening, the engine would rev up on its own while idling and would sputter with some black exhaust. It also would not start right after getting gas (didn't matter if I filled it up or only got a few gallons).
The mechanic recommended replacing the battery first, which we did since it was under warranty, but I'm not sure that was necessary. Next, he cleaned the throttle body and replaced a cylinder that was misfiring. He also replaced a plug (I'm assuming a spark plug?). It's been a few days and the car hasn't stopped or acted weird again, so far. I haven't tried to get gas again yet, so I'm not sure if that issue has resolved. I still don't trust the car, but I know one thing... I will never buy another Ford ever again! Have had way too many issues with this one!
