CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

2013 Ford Edge fuel system, gasoline. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire. Leaving the residence. Once passed the control of the security agent of the residence. I accelerate the vehicle normally and then hear a rather deafening noise. I stop the vehicle immediately and process to exit the vehicle quickly as I feel the body warm. Once I get out of the vehicle and run to a safe place about 40 feet away, I throw myself on the ground and look at the vehicle and see that the vehicle is burning. I can see that the fire is consuming the vehicle and can observe fire inside the vehicle coming out of the windows and fire through the bottom of the vehicle that goes from the front of the engine down the side. And the fire runs to the gas tank.

When you are stopped and 'shift to park' and push the button to turn off the vehicle, it dings keeps telling me to 'shift to park'. you need to continue turning off and on and moving the gear shifter between park and drive to finally get it to turn off. I see online that this has been an ongoing problem with some AWD vehicle from Ford.

Engine became totally disabled at 50 mph on a rural county highway.struggled to steer vehicle to shoulder of road because of lost power.fortunately we were on a straight section of road.I can only think that in so many other driving situations this problem could have put us in a life threatening position.Ford really needs to find the problem and fix it!

Car will stall and go into limp mode, yellow wrench appears on left hand display. This has happened twice within the last 3 months, once in the middle lane of a rush hour freeway travelling at 40mph. I was lucky to get across to the shoulder before I lost all momentum. No response when pushing the accelerator, engine shakes badly. Have to restart the car in order to continue travel. All research points to faulty electronic throttle body. Ford service center advisers agree but refuse to perform repair under warranty as there are no codes. The codes get wiped after restarting the engine.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to respond. The brake pedal was difficult to apply and made a lot of noise. When the vehicle stopped, the engine turned off and the "engine lost power" warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,520.

While driving on a city street, the vehicle went into a limp-type mode. The engine was still running but I could not accelerate. The problem was a faulty electronic throttle body which I have come to find out is a very widespread problem in Ford vehicles and that Ford is aware of this problem but has refused to issue a recall. This is a very dangerous issue and Ford is putting its customers at risk for accidents.

There is a sudden loss of power while driving, the engine idles roughly, and the accelerator stops working - this is all while in the process of driving the car. There were complaints filed back in 2013 and a lawsuit related to other Ford vehicles regarding this issue (defective electronic throttle control). This model and year, however, is not part of the group Ford agreed to fix and there was never a formal recall. This puts drivers in a dangerous situation...losing power while driving.

I have a 2013 Ford Edge and have been told the turbo charger failed, and no part is available for 3 months. The car has been serviced many times prior to 60,000 miles but now suddenly I am being told the part just failed. My complaint is a major engine part failing at under 60,000 miles and no part available for 3 months.

Was driving approx. 45 mph coming thru a 5 corners major intersection at peak traffic time of 5:15pm. Driving on state farm to market road in town of 100K residents. Had been driving approx. 3 miles. Temp in 80's, roads dry. Complete loss of power, nearly rear ended. Car crept a little, moved to middle turn lane, strong forward lurch/jerk, yellow wrench light on. Put car in park, turned it off. Tried to start, nothing. Sat about a minute, tried, started. Limped to parking lot. Turned vehicle off, sat for about 20 minutes. Then took route home going thru subdivisions where stall would not jeapordize life. Could not drive to dealer as that would involve highway, and risk of fatal accident. I was very fortunate today, have never been that scared driving a vehicle in 40 yrs of driving.

Vehicle was driving straight at approximately 50 mph. Yellow wrench icon came on, and engine power was lost. Coasted out of traffic and into parking lot. Turned car off and back on, and vehicle ran normally with no error lights. Turned car off and back on and drove approximately 15 miles with no recurrence. Due to the safety concerns of having the engine stall again at highway speeds or with children in the car, took car to dealership. Dealership stated no error codes were stored, and recommends replacing throttle body for $700+ based on their history with similar situations.

While traveling at highway speeds vehicle suddenly loss power to transmission and engine and ended up going 1 mph. Could not accelerate and barely missed being struck by other vehicles. "wrench" warning indicator came on and I pulled my auto over to side of roadway. Turned the ignition off, waited 1 minute and restarted and the auto was normal again. Day later pulling out into traffic same episode again just barley avoiding a collision again. Dealership advises faulty electric throttle body defective. This is a major safety issue and needs to be resolved immediately before this results in a fatality. I had two separate incidents that could have resulted in a fatality. When the vehicle goes limp you are powerless to do anything if your lucky to get to the side of the road without getting hit from the rear or T-boned.

I have two major problems and safety issues with this car. First is the power booster, which is covered under extended warranty. Symptoms of booster issue are spongy brakes that then went hard with little resistance accompanied by hissing sound coming from brakes. The second issue is a defective throttle body. Three times in as many days when food is on brake, the brake pushes back essentially having lost power brakes and requiring both feet firmly pressed on brake to even remotely slow car down, unable to completely stop vehicle, at the same time I lose power steering and cannot control direction of car, the warning light "low oil pressure" illuminates on the dash. This does not send car into so called "limp home" mode it renders the car essentially inoperable. If I turn the car off and then back on again it returns to normal driving function....until it happens again. I've been lucky that this happened backing out of my driveway and in straight lane stop and go traffic on city streets. Had this happened when I was driving along a curvy mountain road, along the coast or on a los angeles freeway moving 65 mph..I doubt I would have been so lucky. I cannot believe the throttle issue in the Edge is not covered under the extended warranty given to other Ford model cars or even more that this isn't a sweeping safety recall. I am risking life and limb of myself and my two young children driving this car. This is my first Ford and will probably be my last. Ford should be ashamed of themselves.

Vehicle lost power and would not accelerate when gas pedal was pressed but it never shut down. Vehicle stalled but the air conditioning, radio, windows etc continued to work. Vehicle's engine stayed on and continued to sputter and the "yellow wrench" engine warning light came on. The vehicle was in a straight forward motion, moving less than 35 mph, in use for less than 5 minutes, the weather was hot and the roadway was dry. The vehicle eventually stopped in the middle of the roadway partially in the intersection. After some research, apparently there are others who have had a similar experience resulting in the replacement of the throttle body assembly.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving 60 mph, the contact heard the vehicle run over something that left debris in the roadway. The contact stated that the failure occurred previously. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine shield cover dislodged from the vehicle and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.

While driving I lost all acceleration. The engine was still running but my car would not move. I went from 50mph to nothing while going up an overpass. The same thing happened with my Ford Fusion and it was the electronic throttle body. In both cases the only thing that kept me from causing or being involved in very bad accidents was the grace of god! I just called Ford and they had no throttle bodies in stock because Ford had placed a hold on ordering them! now isn't that interesting!! I was also told that the manufacturer had promised 2,000 to be shipped out this week. That seems obvious to me that Ford knows there is a problem. It seems that this problem has been looked at for years....why isn't someone doing more than slapping Ford's hand?
