CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

The left rear door ajar notification light on the dash will not go off, even though the door is shut. Which means the dome light stays on and the doors will not lock. This happened when the door was opened, but no matter how many times, or how much force is used to close the door, the notification won't go away, and the doors won't lock while in motion.

Door ajar signal & interior lights remain on when door is closed. Causes a night driving hazard since lights stay on when driving, leaves interior lights on which drains the battery when car is off & in park, & unable to lock doors when in vehicle whether or not you are in drive. Happens multiple times a day over multiple weeks & months.

I hit just a little over 60 K miles on my 2013 Ford Edge and I was also due for an oil change. I took my car to the Ford dealership and when it was getting serviced, they offered me maintenance on my car as it was due. I declined. When I got in my car the 'door ajar' light started to sound so I opened and shut my door but the problem would not correct. I went about my daily routines and it has not stopped and it's very annoying and the interior lights won't shut off causing the panels to become very hot. Now the inside panel/screen has frozen up and I keep having to reset it. I called Ford service department and they only want me to bring it in (so they can charge me the $500+ to fix it). This is a ripoff!!! my door won't lock either. I live alone in a rather large city and there are beggars on just about every corner. This morning, one came up to my car and tapped on my window wanting money. My doors would not lock and I was scared to death. Anyone can open my door at a stop light or wherever I am and I am not secure. Ford knows this is happening and will do nothing about it. It's a scam to get money from everyone having this issue and I am now concerned for my safety.

Door ajar sensor goes off even though door is closed properly. This happens while stationary. Dings to 'shift to park'. started off with having to close and reclose the door on occasion. Now it's up to 8-10 times in a row before the door ajar sensor stops. Car alarm won't engage. Have also had to drive with indicator constantly dinging while driving telling me to stop and close door. Locks won't engage while driving which is a safety issue. Called my local Ford service center and they said they had to do a diagnostic...which will cost me over 100 dollars even though I have the extended warranty. There seems to be quite a few complaint regarding this issue. Costs to repair run between $350-500 according to reports on forums. My car has 50,000 and is maintained impeccably. Would seem because the number of complaints and the safety issue of driving with the sensor going off and not being able to lock the door while driving, this should be a recall issue. This started a couple months ago and has gotten continually worse and more often.

The "door ajar" light comes when the door is fully latched, the door can be slammed repeatedly and the light stays on. The interior dome light stays lit creating night vision problems, the doors will not lock, these two problems create very important safety issues. This is not an isolated problem and has been documented numerous times

The driver door ajar light would not turn off with the door closed. This prevents the door locks from working while the car is in motion, including the rear doors where the baby seat is located. This could allow a child to open the door while in motion. Also, the interior lights shine on the windshield at night making I difficult to see oncoming traffic at night.

While vehicle was under warranty, door ajar sensor indicated driver's side door was ajar when it wasn't. dealer cleaned sensor and it worked for awhile. Now vehicle is out of warranty and sensor is failing again, but this time while it was parked in my garage for the night the parking lights and dome lights came on because sensor indicated the driver's side door was ajar.

2013 Ford Edge 3.5L V6 sel the door ajar warning comes on even when the door is completely closed. This causes the interior lights to come on randomly, even while driving at night (mostly 2 lane country roads). I have to stand outside the vehicle when I am done driving and open and shut the door anywhere from 10-20 times before it goes off. This has drained at least 2 batteries by randomly coming on in the middle of the night. I have replaced the switch, the entire lock system twice now. The dealer wants $500 to fix. I can't afford to pay $500 every few months for a bad design by Ford. This is obviously a known issue and has been for quite sometime. Just about every Edge owner has had to deal with this. Ford needs to come up with the proper fix for all doors and at their expense. The consumer is getting ripped off by Ford with this issue.

The door sensors in this vehicle do not sense that the door is closed when it is. This leads to being unable to lock the doors while driving, it also causes the interior lights to remain on when the car is off even after the door is closed and the car is locked which drains the battery. Occasionally, the door will sense that it is closed after slamming it. This has led to an arm injury that I sustained when attempting to do this repeatedly from the inside of the vehicle. This is an ongoing issue and not a one-time occurrence.

The driver door ajar alarm continually is initiated even though the door is completely closed. This can cause interior lights to stay on and drain battery when the vehicle is parked. This alarm will continue when the vehicle is in motion. Re-opening and closing the door sometimes solves the problem. If alarm cannot be cancelled, doors don't always lock when vehicle is in motion.

Engine control module-PCM. After 3 years of replacing/repairing items on my car, they now say that the PCM is the cause. I have replaced multiple sensors, catalytic converter, drive shaft, turbo, cooling system, and the list goes on. Had the PCM been diagnosed the first time my check engine light came on and replaced the sensor, I could of saved a lot of time. Every time I would go in, the diagnostic test would show 02 sensor which was replaced numerous times, then they would say catalytic converter, so on so on going down the list. I would get stranded on the highway because the car would completely shut down. Not one person in the past 3 years said the PCM was to blame. After a week of trying to diagnosis my car after once again being stranded on the highway, they are saying the PCM. The mechanic states that the computer module is on back order with Ford. The Ford rep states that they are selling them faster than they can be made. If this part is on back order (2 weeks) and can't keep them in stock, there seems to be an issue with the PCM for Ford. Everything that I have read states it is very hard to diagnosis a PCM but there needs to be a code that appears when it is faulty because this could of been covered under warranty 3 years ago but instead, I have paid a lot of out of pocket to get to this point of replacing the PCM. PCM in high demand with Ford indicates a red flag for this part and issue. Please review.

The door sensor in drivers door is not working. It says it's ajar when it's closed tightly. Issue is when I am driving it will just pop on and interior lights pop on and I have to shut door several times for it sense it's shut and it may not stay that way. It is dangerous when lights pop on at night make it hard to see road have to pull over. Other down side is if I don't stand outside my car when I get out to make sure the interior lights shut off otherwise will drain my battery as it is not sensing door is closed.
