When the issue started I could close the door a few times and it would finally shut off and be fine. After a while I would sit in the parking lot at work and shut my door for 5 mins straight and then finally it would shut off. Now the light is on all the time. Not only does it tell me my door is open all the time when you come to a stop it starts dinging at you to put your car in park and shut the door. It does that over and over again. Think about being in rush hour traffic and your car dinging at your every 5 seconds.

The newest issue that I have had with it is now when the car is parked the dome light will stay off for hours. I am waiting for one day when I come out of work and I can't start my car because my battery is dead. Also I have young children and before the doors would automatically lock once you put it in drive now they don't because "the door is still open" So now its one more thing to remember once I get in my car and head out for the day.

This should be a recall! I don't even have 60,000 miles on my car and I already have an issue. I didn't want a ford and my husband is a Ford guy and now that this is going on I will never own another one ever again!

Like many others, I've been experiencing the 'driver door ajar' alarm in my 2013 Ford Edge, even when the door is latched completely. Interior lights will not dim, and if/when I shift to Drive, the car will relentlessly alert me that the door is ajar and tell me to shift to Park. Began less than a month ago, and at first was very intermittent. Now it's happening daily -- to the tune of having to open and shut the door upwards of 20 times before the car will register that it is actually closed. If I do try to drive with the alert active, my doors will not auto lock as they normally do when I shift to Drive.

I've read countless forums, and see that having the latch cleaned for an exorbitant cost, or replacing for even more, is nothing more than a TEMPORARY fix, as many users have indicated the problem returned after several months/years.

I'm doing a simple DIY fix by cleaning the latch (sometimes daily) with compressed air and removing as much dirt/grime/grease as possible, but this is a very temporary fix as it will only alleviate the issue for a few days, sometimes not even an entire day.

Incredibly frustrating, and I think Ford should be taking this more seriously and helping Ford owners with the problem instead of gouging their pocket books with a short term fix.

Update from Jan 24, 2020: Just received a letter from Ford today indicating they had extended my warranty for this specific reason (extended to 7 year/ 84k miles). The listed reason was specific to the door latch/door ajar issue. Made an appointment to have the door latch replaced at no charge — anyone still having issues I’d check with Ford too see if your vehicle is applicable for the extended warranty coverage.

The driver door ajar light stays on though the door is latched securely. This problem began sporadically, but is now constant. This prevents ALL the door from locking while the car is in motion and results in the dash and interior lights to remain on for a minute or two when driving at night. This presents a danger for my wife and son as the glare off the inside of the windshield makes it almost impossible to see until the interior lights turn off... only after driving awhile or waiting a long time wherever they are parked. More, the inability to lock the doors while driving though Stockton Ca. puts them at risk of car-jacking and attack. It is unbelievable that I had to learn of this pervasive issue by searching on the internet. Ford should have told us about this defect and/or issued a recall an replace of all the door latches on my car as they will likely fail as well.

Vehicle isn't recognizing that the passenger door is closed. Lights are remaining on. It is mostly annoying have to get out and close the door multiple times. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. The biggest issue is when backing out in the dark the lights make it difficult to see what is going on behind the vehicle. Have no screen in the car that allows me to see going in reverse so it is important to be able to see through the windows and rearview mirror when the lights are on it's almost impossible at night to see anything.

My girlfriend and I bought a 2013 ford edge in january 2017. Within 2 weeks of the purchase problems began with the car. The radio randomly scan through stations which, after considerable expense to us, has been fixed by a dealership. The rear camera that shows a view behind the car while in reverse simply stopped working but my girlfriend simply is accepting this problem as it is not worth the hassle of addressing, especially with the more urgent and problems that have persisted with the car that affect it's drivability and Safety.

The primary issue that is current and ongoing us that THE "DOOR AJAR" INDICATOR WILL NOT TURN OFF even though the doors are completely and firmly closed and latched. This is happening to the rear driver side door and especially with the driver's door. She has to Repeatedly Slam the door shut over and over and over again until it turns off. If the indicator does not turn off, it will drain the battery until it is dead. When the indicator won't turn off while driving, the annoying chime keeps beeping alerting us that the door is ajar when it is Not.

Additionally, this may eventually result in an injury if a finger or hand or arm gets crushed in the doors while slamming them in order to shut the indicator off. Her young daughter sits next to the rear door that does this and the child may get injured if she happens to put her hand or arm in the way of the door while it is being slammed.

The repair cost for this issue is Massive and should not be the responsibility of the car owner because this is NOT an isolated fluke of an incident. There are Countless complaints of this issue with Ford Edges of 2013 and models of other years. A very simple online search of problems with the ford edge will immediately show that this is a Very Widespread problem. There are many youtube videos of people trying to overcome this problem. THIS SHOULD ABSOLUTELY WARRANT A RECALL OF THE FORD EDGE TO HAVE THESE "DOOR AJAR" DEFECTS FIXED ON FORD'S DIME!!!

We have found that there is even a class action lawsuit against Ford because of this. We have found reports online of ford edge owners being stranded because of dead batteries and ford edge owners having to spend enormous amounts of money on buying new batteries. We have found some ford edge owners have opted to figure out how to destroy the sensor altogether. One should not have to Destroy or disable something (that is meant for SAFETY) on their vehicle in order for the vehicle to function.

This is Completely ridiculous that it has not been recalled. I am sure there have been many recalls of way more minor and benign issues for other vehicles. My girlfriend insists that she will NEVER purchase another ford product EVER. One would think that of all car companies, "FORD" would want their products to be the highest quality out there with the highest of customer satisfaction and stand behind their products. "Hey Ford"!!!....DO A FRIGGIN RECALL ALREADY!!!

Same issue as others have presented. Tried cleaning with MAF cleaner but if anything it made matters worse. One thing I did notice however, was that the alarm seems to reset when I do the following (for a week now):

1) close door and experience the door ajar alarm.

2) press "OK" to acknowledge

3) open door and close it again

4) almost every time, the alarm seems to disappear.

I have called two dealerships (service dept) and they have never heard of this issue. Bought this beautiful Edge used with very low km and this is the first (and maybe my last) Ford in the family.
