CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

My brakes become spongy & go to the floor. It occurred sporadically but now is constant either when the vehicle is in motion or at a stop. If someone pulled out in front of me I could not stop in a safe distance. Brakes have been serviced. There are multiple complaints on line about this potentially fatal flaw. Matlock tires in athens, tn replaced the master cylinder and replaced all the brake pads. They called to the Ford dealership concerning recalls or how to repair the problem to no avail.

In September 2014, Ford has issued a "customer satisfaction" notice regarding the extended warranty on brake function component. Notice id :13N02. The issue was possibility of break booster premature failure leading to unpredictable braking performance. There are 2 significant issues with this notice: 1. the part that fails is a major safety issue and should have been treated with immediate recall instead of an extended warranty offering - as the failure of this part leads to unpredictable braking performance at an unpredictable time frame. 2. it only covers vehicles produced between certain dates, while the real extent of faulty brake system component goes way beyond the scope covered in this notice. I own a 2013 Ford Edge truck with production date of 06/13. The mileage on this vehicle is under 58000. About a week ago the braking function of this car has failed significantly leading to a near crash situation. This happened when I was driving closer to a traffic stop at about 20 mph and started gradually applying brakes and to my surprise the car kept on moving without any noticeable braking applied. Realizing that, I pressed the pedal much harder to a degree that would be close to activating ABS and only then the car came to a hard stop. After experiencing this I started researching online and have learned about Ford's notice of extended warranty on brake booster part failure - 13N02. I had exactly the same symptoms as described in this bulletin. Upon visiting dealership, they refused to service my car under this extended warranty as my car was just outside the production dates covered by 13N02. Upon further research, I have learned that this issue impacted a much larger number of Ford Edge 2013 owners, whose safety concerns are plainly ignored by Ford Motor Company same as is my case. Both dealership and the Ford hotline refused to anything about it.

While driving at approximately 55-60 miles per hour the traction control and traction control off light lit up and a red brake malfunction light came on and the engine stopped while the car was in motion. We coasted to the side of the road and it took two attempts to start it again. The traction control light and traction control off light is still on. It happen three times so far and two of those times was while we were on the interstate in traffic travelling at 60-70 mph. This was not safe at all. When it shuts off there is a big thud sound and the traction control, traction control off and a red brake malfunction light comes on. After the second time there is now a rattle. I have the car at home now but it has a hesitation in it when it is first started this all has happened in the last 4 days.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. While driving various speeds and attempting to depress the brake pedal, an abnormal hissing noise was heard coming from the brakes. The contact had to apply excessive pressure to the brake pedal for the brakes to engage properly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was determined that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Beach Ford (2717 Virginia beach blvd, Virginia beach, va 23452, (757) 486-2717) was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall. During a recent snow fall. I was driving down the road. When I went to stop the ABS system activated due the the snowy road conditions. From them on the brake pedal has gone to the floor with out returning back to normal. I did have the brakes looked at and found out the pads and rotors are fine. The service department was not able to see any issues and told me I would have to take it to a Ford dealership to have the computer looked at. Because the repair shop does not have access to Ford software.

Yesterday, I drove my vehicle to a restaurant for lunch, it was fine. When I was leaving the restaurant and coming up to a stop sign I apply my brakes and my brake pedal is spongy and goes completely to the floor without stopping my vehicle. At the next stop sign, I started slowing down even sooner and again the brake pedal goes clear to the floor. I pulled over and shut my car off and called my husband. He had me restart the vehicle and back up and go forward slowly. The brake pedal then felt like it had pressure and was stopping me. I carefully drive home, leaving a lot of space between me and vehicles in front of me. This morning the brakes are again spongy but they are stopping me when my pedal is nearly fully depressed. I researched the problem last night and found there was a recall for 2013 Ford Edge brake booster but when I called the dealership this morning they inform me that my 2013 Ford Edge is not included. There a thousands of complaints on the brakes on these vehicles and Ford is not standing behind their vehicles or making the problem right. This is a safety issue and Ford needs to fix it. A vehicles brakes should not just fail while parked for 45 minutes during lunch.

While driving over a bump in the road on a city street, the brakes stopped working. Brake pressure was lost and only by depressing the pedal to the floor could a small amount of braking power be applied. No warning lights appeared and no noises, hissing, ect were heard. The issue occurred three times in the same location in the span of a month. After two incidents, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who suspected the brake booster may be failing. The mechanic could not confirm an issue with the braking system, but we elected to replace the brake booster as functional brakes are essential and a booster recall has occurred for this vehicle, although this VIN was not included in the recall. Within a few days of the repair, the exact issue occurred again in the same spot, so the booster replacement clearly did not resolve the issue. The vehicle has been well maintained with newly replaced pads and rotors and has approximately 75,000 miles. Once the vehicle was stopped, the brakes started working normally and continued working normally after the car was turned off and then back on again. The vehicle will be taken to our local Ford dealer shortly to attempt to diagnose the issue.

Brake cylinder booster system failure. Vehichle VIN not included in previous recalls. Car would not brake; hissing sounds; had to put in neutral and push brake to the floor. This is not acceptable or safe in a city with the traffic we have in houston. Independent dealer estimate to fix exceeds $1200. Ford needs to recall this vehicle for continued brake issues.

Brake booster failure causing decreased stopping power. Ford released a bulletin 13N02 covering this vehicle up until March of 2013. Vehicle was manufactured in July of 2013 at same plant. Calling them, they stated that they will not cover. My vehicle has 128K miles on it and they offered an extended warranty on the bulletin for 10 years 150000 miles due to the high rate of failures and safety issues. Dealership and Ford customer care are unwilling to acknowledge that the problem continued longer than their cut off dates. The vehicle was in motion at the time of failure at highway speeds of 60mph. During traffic, as the brakes booster failed during normal stopping in congested traffic, my wife had to swerve to avoid the car in front of her as she pumped her brakes to try to stop the vehicle. Fortunately her experience allowed her to avoid an accident. The local service station, found that the booster had failed, but was a few months out from Ford supplement date. I'm asking that the NHTSA review the problem and will be saving parts and service repairs for further information if needed.

While driving my 2013 Edge (148,000 miles), when going to apply the break it suddenly did not want to break causing me try to veer from traffic to avoid an accident with another vehicle. Never had a warning or issue before this.the pedal will then go all the way down. Edge has an fsa item for extended warranty of the break booster. Taking to dealership I was informed that the master cylinder was bad. The mechanics I spoke to state that the master cylinder and brake booster go hand in hand so to speak yet Ford states they are not responsible for that only the brake booster. Upon looking up customer issues for this I saw the 2011-2013 F150S have the same issues and both the master cylinder and brake booster were being replaced by Ford at no charge. Why not the Edge? it is clearly having the same issues and my brakes are in good condition.the dealership also stated the ABS hydraulic control assembly was bad, yet the ABS light has not turned on and I am not sure this is accurate as prior to taking to the dealership I had a mechanic look at it and they told me it was the brake booster and master cylinder.

Vacuum brake booster needs to be replaced. I went to drive my car, backing out of my driveway, and immediately the brakes were extremely hard to push on. Luckily I was backing out of my garage, but my brakes failed, and I had to hit the emergency brake to make the car stop. I had a 1 year old in the car, and this is a huge safety issue. Also, I had noticed earlier that when I was in drive, but sitting at a light, the car would shake. A minute later, the car died.
