CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

2011 Ford Edge limited, intermittent pedal fade. While depressing brake pedal, pedal will fade to the floor. Eventually pedal will return to normal operation over time. Brake booster and master have been replaced and are functioning normal. This issue is intermittent and extremely dangerous and should be addressed. This issue happens while driving, wife almost had multiple accidents due to the hcu valves sticking open on ABS pump side and not closing. Events get worse in colder conditions. Vehicle has been in the shop multiple times, flushed with specified brake fluid, bled and mechanically bled. Ford dealership stated that there is nothing else they can do for us. Cost of repairs have surpassed $2900 worth of diagnostics and is still not fixed. Vehicle is less than 90K miles on it and is currently unsafe to drive.

2011 Ford Edge 102K miles. Front driver door light ajar, the door indicating its ajar keeps the lights in the vehicle illuminated, this in turned drained the battery. Very hard to tell the lights inside are on during daylight hours. Unfortunately this situation left my wife and kids stranded. Looked up solutions for this when I ran across the recall 19N09 for this situation. Took it to the local dealership where it was diagnosed as the the issue. They noted this was a very common issue with these cars. Unfortunately today's date (8/26/20) was 26 days past the recall expiration date of 7/31/20. The dealership advised me they couldn't fix the issue under the recall due to the expiration and the repair would cost $471. I called Ford directly where they politely told me I missed the date and therefore I was on my own. I'm very disappointed in Ford's decision to not stand behind the recall and take care of the known issue with the Edge after being only 26 days after a recall expired. I asked Ford if they had notified me of this issue with the vehicle prior to the recall expiring, they said they sent me a notice in January, I asked them to confirm the address that notice was sent to and they intimately asked me to verify my address to them. Red flag.... I got the feeling they did not send out any notice on this recall and they could not confirm where they sent the notice to. Ford advised me to pay up, get it fixed but keep the receipt in case the recall opens back up they would reimburse me for it. Very disappointed in this situation and in Ford. The way the car is currently is not safe for my wife and kids to drive. The dealership told me that I could just "disconnect the negative terminal to stop the battery from draining"! Ford please do the right thing and open this recall back up.

In 2016 Ford Edge door ajar light will stay on even when the door were locked. In the beginning it was not an issue but than things got worse as for no apparent reason the car alarm would go off on its own at different times of day and night. After pinpointing the problem to the door latch sensor was advised to change the sensor (but since geniuses at Ford decided to incorporate the sensor in the actual door latch with no removable parts) I was forced to change the entire door latch mechanism which cost about $500..I recently received a letter that this was a known issue and a recall now has been ordered...submitted the paperwork for a refund and it was denied (reason car in 2016 had 88,000 miles)...although on the letter it says that if I had the issue now it will be covered up to 120,000...I have called Ford multiple times and also submitted original receipts with chapman Ford in egg harbor twp, NJ...but they said they can not honor any refunds due to mileage (case # Ford gave me is [xxx]) information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Sitting in a drive thru and car begins to run hot once again due to the cooling fans not kicking on. This is an ongoing problem with this car. I have replaced an entire engine along with the cooling fan module and assembly. Over 2000 in repairs all due to a cooling fan malfunction and is acting like it again.

The door latch sensor dose not work all the time. Witch means the doors will not lock which makes me feel unsafe driving my vehicle. There has been a lot of complaints on this with the Edges years 2011 to 2013. There should be a recall on this if a lot of people are have this problem to keep us safe. Anyone could open your door at a red light.

Tonight, I was closing my sunroof an it took 5 minutes and 3 people to close it. One person had to push the button to close it and the other two had to push the glass from the outside. Every time we did that it kept resisting and popping back to the open position. I have took it to Ford about a month ago when I got my oil changed they told me to tried to clean the tracks of it and lub on my own or have Ford do it for almost $1,000. I don't have that kind of money. They. Told me this has happened to all the sunroof of this year. I feel if most people have had this problem they should offer some kind of help or a recall on it.

While driving in the city my hazard lights came on automatically and I could not turn them off. This also made my blinkers incapable of being used, a clear safety issue and law offense. My hazard lights continued to turn on and off automatically leaving me with a drained battery. I have researched the recalls and it seems this can be a fire hazard but my car was not on this recall list.

This is a follow up complaint as advised by mary at Ford Motor Company. Ford did issue customer satisfaction program 19N09 refund for the driver side latch, however I had to replace the passenger side latch as well so would like a refund on both latches. Door ajar lights stay on which causes automatic door locks to fail, dome lights to remain on while driving as well as when vehicle is parked and turned off. When driving this causes a safety hazard because anyone can enter the car at a stop sign or light and cause harm to vehicle occupants. Additionally, dome lights stuck on while driving also poses a safety hazard. When vehicle is off and dome lights stay on, this drains the battery as well as fuses. We have had to replace the vehicle battery as well as fuses. We recently had to pay $1144.40 to have the door latches replaced and were told this is a known issue with Ford. I reached out to Ford customer service and was told they have not issued a recall for this problem. Date and mileage may not be accurate as this issue has been happening for many years, however we finally had no choice but to replace the door latches when my husband's wheelchair was stuck in the back because the fuse had blown and the back hatch door would not open.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the doors of the vehicle failed to automatically lock when the vehicle was driven as the vehicle was designed to operate. The contact stated that the doors would intermittently lock then release the locks, as well. The sensor that indicates whether the doors were locked consistently states that doors were ajar despite the actual positioning and locking of the doors. The vehicle was taken to the (hawk Ford located at 2525 E main St, saint charles, il 60174, phone number 630-584-1800) who informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under the customer satisfaction program. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The approximate failure mileage 129,131.

The SUV gave me a blinking engine light. Decoding to a misfire problem. The first time I had the car looked at they replaced the coil packs. About 10,000 miles later I got the same misfire problem. Some of the coil packs were melted. I had the SUV towed to a garage and they said the engine control module is defective. They replaced the control module for $1500. Yikes. Dealer told me that Ford Motor Company knows the ECM is defective but won't recall so I have to pay for their screw up. Want a refund from Ford.

I was driving my Ford Edge on route 303 in phoenix at about 60 miles per hour when the car suddenly started shaking and losing power. It allowed me to drive a very short distance until I was able to stop the car, in a turn lane with a tractor trailer on my tail...very disconcerting! a yellow wrench light was showing along with some notice about my traction being off, I believe. After sitting a few minutes I was able to move it off the turn lane and into a fairly safe lane ahead. Fortunately a policeman pulled up behind me and I shut off the engine and called aaa for a tow. 20 minutes later, I turned on the engine which now seemed fine so the policeman suggested that I pull forward into a safer area. After doing sotheby's car seemed fine again so I drove it to my daughter's house several miles away and cancelled the tow. I have been researching this issue on line since and this has happened to many Edge owners who have feared for their lives when the same thing happened to them. Some say cleaning or replacing the throttle plate seemed to work but others have found that the dealers insist nothing is wrong after testing it.... it seems to have happened too many times for nothing to be done.... I think a recall is in order so that the dealerships can find out what the problem is before someone loses their life, if that hasn't already accur. I have a 2011 Ford Edge.
