CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

The door ajar sensor ceases to function and indicate whether the door is open or closed, leaving it in the "ajar" state. By having it in this state, the vehicles locks do not automatically engage while driving and also the battery drains while the car is not in use.

Driver's door ajar sensor was intermittent then went completely out. Interior light stays on draining battery when parked. Safety concern with door false alert masking actual door not shut condition. Additional safety concern with night driving and forced interior light reducing visibility and risk to pedestrians. Ford service will only lubricate sensor at customers expense to satisfy tsb-14-0011 causing no confidence in repair and possible re-occurrence of safety issue. This should be a recall and replacement of the faulty sensing unit and/or door latch assembly.

Door ajar indicator stays on for driver side door which will not lock. Doors cannot be locked while driving, interior lights stay on because of door ajar indicator which in turn drains battery. Unsafe for doors not being able to be locked and lights continue to illuminate while vehicle is off and parked.

The drivers side front door sensor does not work. The door is closed but it still shows on the dash door ajar. This does not let the doors lock while driving. I feel that this is very unsafe while driving also unsafe for my family to drive in certain areas of the city. I don't even know if the airbags will work.

I parked the car and closed all doors and used the remote to lock the doors when I received the two beeps to indicate a door was open. Additionally the interior lights would not go off. I checked all doors which was closed only to see in the dash the door ajar sign. The door ajar light now will not off off nor will my interior lights which is draining my battery. Due to this the doors will not lock which leave my vehicle vulnerable to theft and while driving my child susceptible to danger.

The drivers side door ajar sensors have been causing problems for the past month. They are covered under my warranty, however I have to pay a $100 deductible to get this fixed. The representative, john, said that Ford has issued a notice about them however no recall. He said there are a large number of cars experiencing this issue... so I'm confused about why there is not a recall. Please help. Thank you!

Well known issue with the driver door latch failing on the 2011 Ford Edge. Driver door will close and appears to be secure. However, the driver door ajar light will illuminate, the car will not auto lock when you reach the designated speed and the interior lights remain on for approximately 20 minutes. All of this results in a drain on the battery. It takes slamming the driver door to the point you are afraid that another issue will arise before you can get the car to recognize the driver door is closed. I took my Edge to my Ford dealer to have the driver door latch replaced. As I was out of warranty at the time this problem started, I had to pay out of pocket for the repair. I have requested reimbursement from Ford as this appears to be another well known, widespread issue that Ford chooses to ignore instead of issuing a recall.

I was rear-ended at a pedestrian crosswalk by a teen texting on his smartphone while driving at the speed of about 40mph. The impact caused me to smash into another car in front of me. I wasn't injured because I braced myself for impact looking up through my mirrors. The airbag light came on as if they airbags were about to deploy on the dash board but they simply didn't deploy. When I was driving home the car started shaking as if the airbags might pop out if I hit a bump in the road. The car is now parked and will remain parked until this issue is fully resolved.. no more Ford cars for me!

We have a 2011 Ford Edge limited which someone threw a 3" diameter rock at the driver side glass. It was noted glass was not tempered but had a sound proofing laminate in middle of glass. Produce large quantities of sharp glass splinters throughout cabin and kept window glass intact. My concern is that you could be injured severely by the sharp glass splinters from any of the windows smashing in accident. Lastly, how do you get a person out if trapped under water when laminate is holding glass together. What if you had to rescue someone and had to smash glass, you could potentially injure occupants severely!!!!

On July 19th, 2011 while driving South bound on folly road in charleston, SC I was slowing down towards the intersection w/ fort johnson road. I was traveling approximately 30mph when I heard a very large pop or explosion like sound. After a second or two, I noticed shards of glass falling off the roof over the back window. I pulled over into a lot and found the rear most fixed glass roof panel (of the panoramic vista roof) had completely shattered. The local Ford dealership indicated that Ford will not treat this as a warranty covered item. The vehicle was brand new, bought only 4 days prior to the incident. I have formally submitted a complaint with Ford and am supposed to receive a response in 15 days. I had no choice but to file an insurance claim in the meantime - the vehicle can not be driven and needs to be fixed. This has apparently happened in other panoramic vista roofs from Ford, and just like in this case it happened spontaneously and without any impact from any object.
