This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Vehicle was leaking oil, and consumer took vehicle to an independent mechanic. Mechanic stated that head gasket was cracked. Problem was remedied by mechanic. The transmission was leaking.
Seal of engine cylinder head is not sealed properly causing gasoline to leak all over road. Dealership is aware of problem. Dealership will not fix due to out of warranty.
Headgasket blewout since purchase. Also, consumer has had to replace master cylinder, power steering pump, catalytic converter, and valve cover gasket.
Engine oil leak. Dealer mechanic dignosed head gasket. Leak got progressively worse. Now have oil mixed in with coolant in radiator. Assume coolant in oil pan. Previously complied with recall 96V006, but unsure if this problem could be related.
Head gasket leaking and spraying oil over the bottom of the car. I heard of others who have had this repaired and 6 mo later, had the same proplem. Sounds like poor design and I am concerned of fire under the engine.
It is leaking oil from head gasket. When I went to the dealership to see what was wrong he inform me that they have had a lot of problems with this model and he has had to replace several head gasket from others. He also stated that he believes it is a design problem and the maker should recall the car. It is also going to cost over $800 to repair.
Consume R noticed that vehicle was leaking oil. Dealership was aware of problem. Mechanic told consumer that engine head gasket was leaking. There were no injuries. Ngine check light came on the panel.
Cylinder head gasket failed at approximately 48,000 miles. Car is driving fine but leaking about two quarts of oil per day. Head gaskets should not fail at such low mileage. I also have reason to believe that this is a very common problem on 1995-1999 Dodge Stratus, Dodge neon, and Plymouth breeze.
Computer controller, idler arm and pulley, timing belt, and bottom crank gear all went out at same time.head gasket was found to be defective while in shop for timing belt repairs.Chrysler has agreed to pay for 500 of the 725 dollars it would cost to fix head gasket, but nothing on all the timing belt related problems at 525.00.auto was 4,000 miles and 1 year out of warranty when problems occurred.just seems odd that the computer and all the timing belt related problems happened at the same time.the computer was replaced under warranty.after computer was replaced the timing belt problems were discovered.
Consumer located recall 96V006000/ manufacturer's recall 671 for engine. Recall didn't apply to this vehicle. Consumer took vehicle to an independent mechanic who found a leaky head gasket. Vehicle was losing 3 quarts of oil at less that 3,000 miles.
Head gasket replaced at 54500 miles, needs to be replaced again after only driving 32,700 miles. Dealer wants to charge me $650 again to replace. Dealer also replaced gasket with old model# and not new model#, but charged me to replace cam seals which was part of new tsb bulletin changes.
Head gasket oil leak at 45000 miles, dealer replaced head gasket.head gasket leaking oil again at 102000 miles. Has Chrysler issued a recall? please help.
Head gasket failure at rear driver's side of engine. Have read of many other failures, must be a common problem. Have read of a "secret warranty" where Chrysler will fix for $100 (constant complaining required). Obviously Chrysler knows of a problem, but will not admit one. Safety hazard of catching fire with oil dripping down hot engine block. Redesigned gasket put into production in 1998, all problems before that.
