Ram 1500 Daytona Edition 5.7L Hemi

Damn stalling engines. Ours stalled initially in late 07 and had it checked out. The mechanic tech said it was fine and nothing was done but was documented. Now, the pick-up is having a lot of difficulty starting (takes about 6 attempts to start when it does-twice today) and shuts off completely while driving. At that, the wheel locks and I can not even turn. Very scary. While driving, sometimes it feels as though it's having trouble shifting for a very brief moment, accelerates and then drives normal, weird. The engine has shut off while going 15-25mph, no faster, yet. Taking it in tomorrow to see the problem is.

You buy a new truck so you don't have these kind of issues. We've taken it back to the dealer 3 times. The first time, they told me that they couldn't re-produce the issue. The second time, they replaced the EGR valve and the ECM. The truck was running OK for about 16 months, then it stalled out again in the middle of traffic. This time the dealer found an EGR code in the history and replaced the EGR valve. We'll see how long this lasts. I asked the dealer: am I going to have to replace the EGR valve every year?

This is just downright dangerous. The truck will stall when you're driving around a corner. You lose power steering and brakes. Its happened to my wife 4 or 5 times. Its a wonder she didn't get rear-ended or crash into someone else!! We're still shelling out over $500 each month for this POS and I fear for my wife's safety!!

Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L Hemi V8

  • Automatic transmission

As is seems to be common in this truck, I too had the notorious engine stall at a red light, except I was told the first time that since the truck was brand new the battery must need charging. The second time it happened, the technicians came out and said it was a relay in the transmission sending false inputs to the computer, telling it to kill the engine. The third time it happened, the technicians replaced the entire transmission. The fourth time it happened, they replaced the transmission again and the computer. On the fifth time, I traded it in. This truck seriously spent more time in the shop than in my drive way. All five times occurred over a period of 18 months and I only had 10,000 miles on it. Thank you New Jersey for not letting me Lemon Law it since I was out of the country deployed overseas. They said I should have given power of attorney to someone to take care of it. Be careful of the 2005 Dodge 1500 with the Hemi transmission.

It's only happened three times, but it was when i was making a hard U-turn and the engine stalled. Started right away, Don't know problem, or how to fix. I think Dodge should look into this problem because it could be dangerous.

Ram 1500 Lonestar SLT 5.7L V8 Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,775 miles

This truck and stalling out have become synonymous. Within the first six months of owning the truck I notice that whenever I would cold start the truck and put it into gear the RPMs would drop and the truck would stall. Similarly it would stall out whenever I was coming out of reverse and into drive (after backing up). I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a faulty crimp in the spin up transmission filter. They replaced the filter and everything was fine for about a year. The truck started dying on me again only this time the check engine light would come on and off at random intervals (not seemingly related to the truck dying). I took it in and this time they diagnosed a faulty EGR valve. Apparently is was sticking open and causing the truck to run lean and stall out. They replaced it and what do you know...about a year later (yesterday) I was coming home from work and the damn truck started shuddering and dying and had no power under acceleration...the check engine light came on and now here it sits in the shop...AGAIN!!!...for the SAME problem. I bought the truck because I liked the styling and the performance of the Hemi...but after owning this one I'm questioning whether or not I want to buy Dodge again...EVER. Three times this truck has actually put my safety in jeopardy by dying in the middle of the road (the second time was in the middle of the highway during rush hour). I just want to get it fixed and get out of this vehicle as soon as possible.

Ram 1500 Magnum

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,000 miles

First off, I don't claim to know a ton about cars, so if this isn't explained very well I apologize.

I have been dealing with the same issue as most have described here. When going into a turn at slow speed, or pulling away from a stop sign at slow speed, the truck stalls out. Upon throwing it into neutral and restarting it, it starts right back up. I also noticed the jumps/surges and dips in the RPM's preceding/following the incidents. My dealer has replaced all the electrical wiring from the ignition back, but that has not fixed the issue. The pain in the butt part is it never takes an error code when it happens.

So, I finally caught a break. A fault code was finally captured, after dealing with this issue for the last 2 years. Can you say EGR valve? Apparently it was getting stuck open causing a lean mixture and causing it to stall. I had it replaced and the dealer went and cleaned out the connecting "parts" (for carbon buildup?) and sent me on my way. The issue has not reoccurred thus far, but its only been about a week. But, in my world, thats an eternity compared with what I have put up with for the last two years. Hope this helps some folks out there.

Ram 1500 V6

  • Automatic transmission

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Same as others... My engine stalls when breaking. This has been going on for several months. It seems like it is shifting hard. Happens more often in the am. Today it went one step further, in didn't seem to shift when I accelerated after a traffic light stop. Then it shifted hard, and chirped my tires. After that I was shifting manually on the column to next location. Then it started and ran fine on the way home.

With so many similar stories obviously there is a manufacturing problem. They need to figure out what causes it and recall & fix problem.

Ram 1500 1500 SLT 4.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,000 miles

Same as others. My truck has stalled a couple of time right after I start for the first time in a day and drive to a stop sometime very soon after I start it. The engine has a dip in RPMs, then trys to lurch forward when I'm on the brake, then stalls. I start it back up and it's fine. It's happened about 5-10 times since I bought it back in Nov 05. The Dealer had no clue what was wrong, they tried keeping it overnight and weren't able to reproduce the problem.

Ram 1500 SLT 4.2L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,950 miles

I bought this truck used on November 27th, 2007. My check engine light came on at 39,350 miles a month later. The next day my engine stalled at 20 MPH during acceleration. It re-started right away. The next day after that (last night) the engine stalled again close to 20 MPH when I was braking to make a turn, but had not yet turned. I have not had a shop look at the problem yet since it is now the holidays.

My 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 V-8, with 23,300 miles is stalling turning off and the transmission takes time to engage into gear. The truck stalls turns off while driving around 20-35 miles an hour during 1st start in the mornings and then again after work late afternoon. At 1st the truck was not shifting into gear right away. I took the truck to the dealer and the dealer replaced the oils, at which time the truck did not stall with them. Now the truck is once again taking time to engage into gear and is stalling turning off after being at the dealer less than 3 weeks ago, the stalling now has become an every day thing. The dealer checked the computer and everything is ok, test drove it and it did not stall with the mechanic, they have it now over night to see if it stalls turns off with them 1st thing in the morning. The dealer checked the computer and everything is ok.

My 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 has stalled on me two times when I have come to a stop sign and once when I slowed down for a corner. My vehicle didn't even have 3,000 miles on it yet when this happened. I have not had any other problems with the stalling since then, but I only have about 7,500 miles on it right now.

Ram 1500 V8 HEMI

  • Automatic transmission
  • 17,600 miles

2005 Ram 1500 decelerated while in cruise control on an upgrade. After several seconds the vehicle kicked down and raced the Hemi engine. This was with enough power to push me into my seat. It exceeded the set speed by 7 mph and then returned to normal cruise behavior. Upon exiting the highway I stopped for a light at the end of the exit ramp. While waiting for the light to change the engine attempted a stall and then raced the engine up to 2500 rpms, then back to stall. This occurred three times before returning to normal idle. Wilson Dodge in Torrington CT is finding no codes in the computer to explain the erratic behavior of the vehicle.

Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L HEMI

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,000 miles

Every once the vehicle would start and die. It wouldn't restart unless you held the pedal to the floor (which isn't even hooked up the a throttle cable) then it would cough a start hard. It also stalled on me 3 other times. Either when I was coming to a stop or when I was leaving a stop sign. Pretty embarassing in a brand new truck, won't even stay running. I am also selling a real nice '05 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 Quad Cab 5.7L Hemi Automatic. Looks great runs like crap, all kinds of electrical problems. :)
