My 09 Dodge Journey will not start. Has happened 5 times in the last 4 months. So I never know when I will be stranded. The dealer states they can not figure out the problem unless they have the vehicle and it does not start. Dealer has not really even offered to look at except to scan with scanning gun and said no codes come up for that problem. Well I have had to call a tow truck twice and after waiting an hour each time the vehicle started. So the next three times I was stranded I sat and waited about 1 hour and it started. So how will the dealer ever get this problem to duplicate? You think they would research and get with Chrysler. My vehicle is under warranty and I would like it fixed. I asked if they have had any Journeys with this problem and they said no not that they know of. Kind of funny how I have found multiple complaints just on line. If anyone has had this problem it would be nice to hear from you and if it was fixed.

Dodge Journey refuses to start at random times. Full power from battery etc, it just does not even start to crank. Problem started with the alarm going off when trying to unlock the car with key fob. After that, from time to time it just won't start. I have been stranded twice, once with my wife and kids, once on a multi state trip. I can't count on it. There are places and times you can't afford to get stranded. The unreliability is life threatening. The first time the dealership replaced the WIN module. After the second time, it just sits at the dealership. They don't know what to do. They reported it to Chrysler and were told 'there are problems'. Now the tell me Chrysler won't call them back to discuss the problem with them. So it sits at a dealership. The dealership has been nice but this problem is BS. I told our fleet rep that I refuse to take the vehicle back until they can tell me it is fixed, for real this time. I hope they put a stake in the journey's heart as a fix and I can get rid of it and move on. Right now they are costing me money.

This began in August 0f '09. My wife and a friend were shopping, they came out to start the car and it would not. The lights, dash, radio etc all worked so the battery was fine. I had it towed (CAA) to the local dealership and they kept it for a day. It started fine for them. They said they did the diagnostic everything was in the green. This January the same thing happened. Had it towed to the same dealer. They told me the starter was shot and it had to be replaced ($383.00) my cost as it was not covered. The service was sh*t - it just appeared they (service) did not give a damn. When I asked for a loaner car they told me they don't do that I'd have to rent one. When I asked for an explanation about the same issue they said was fine in August they told me to call Chrysler. Last vehicle from Chrysler for us..

Without rhyme or reason at times the car just won't turn over. It still has power. Lights and radio and all the warning sounds at ignition. But at certain times I get no ignition or any engine noise at all when I turn the key. Then I let the car sit for about a half hour and it starts right up. Any suggestions?

The Journey has certainly led my husband and I on an interesting "journey" through a car buying experience. We purchased our Journey used and immediately had issues. The most annoying one is when the car decides to not turn over. All the electrical items still work so we know it is not the battery, (we tried jumping it too). We were stranded one two many times and had to rent a trailer to have it towed to a dealer. The dealer kept the car for a week and said it starts every time for them. They replaced one of the relays in it and it was doing okay until yesterday. Now the car is not running again. Thankfully the car is in the garage and will not have to be towed anywhere. I don't trust the car to take my family and I anywhere in fear of being stranded. We don't have the money to keep paying for towing and repair bills, that is why we have a newer car and a car payment!

I WENT IN TO A RESTAURANT TO GET SOME FOOD, UPON RETURNING THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, DOORS LOCK, ALARM SOUNDING. I HAD TO REMOVE MY KEY FROM THE FOB, IN ORDER TO UNLOCK THE DRIVER'S DOOR. AFTER PUTTIN THE FOB BACK TOGETHER THE VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT START. IT COST ME A $105.00 TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO DODGE FOR REPAIRS ( COMPUTER PARTS AND UPDATES) WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER EX-WARRANTY, TOW NOT INCLUDED. AND $163.00 FOR A RENTAL CAR FOR THE NEXT 4 1/2 DAYS. THIS IS WHEN THE BAD BRAKES AND ROTORS WAS DISCOVERED ON THE FRONT.

Was Christmas shopping and came out to leave, but the car would not start or do anything at all. Went to another store, came back 20 minutes later and it started right up. Luckily, I didn't have to be somewhere right away, or I wouldn't have made it!

Husband driving the car to VA. Stopped at a rest area on New Jersey turnpike and guess what? Car wouldn't start! Waited 1 hr and still nothing. Called AAA who came and towed the vehicle to VA where husband needed to be. Dropped it off at a Dodge dealership who said they checked everything and miraculously, there is nothing wrong and car starts fine! And we now owe $350 to AAA to cover the extra mileage on tow! Something very wrong here!

The car left my Sweetheart stranded in a parking lot. The electrical components all worked fine, (radio, lights, windows, dash, etc...) but it simply wouldn't do anything when the key was turned. She called a tow truck and had it towed to the dealership. The dealership called a couple of days later to say that the car started for them and there was no way to diagnose the problem. So they sent it home with us.

While vehicle was in for brake repair (see other complaint) we asked the dealer to check the ignition, as sometimes the vehicle will not crank when the key (the FOB style without the metal blade) is turned. You have to turn off all of the automatic features (headlamps, heater, etc), open the door, shut the door and turn the key to get it to start. The dealership replaced the starter (at least per the bill) and updated the software. Three days later it would not start again. Took it back to dealership (Rochester Hills), they stated that they did not replace the starter (its on the bill) - this time they tried to reprogram the key FOBs. After having the vehicle for a week they claimed it was fixed. My wife took it to pick up our kids at school - no start again! Back to the delaership for another week - replaced the module. Just got it back today after nearly 3 weeks in the shop - hope it works.

Update from May 2, 2011: Fixed all the problems with the Journey - traded it in for a Chevy Equinox. Much nicer vehicle and it gets better fuel economy.

And yet again my 09 Dodge Journey has let me down. Now an Ignition problem.... it seems that when the engine warms up the ignition will not engage the starter once I turn off the car. This can leave me stranded for an hour or more until the car cools down enough for the starter to engage. Dealer replaced the starter and ignition module but it did not fix the issue... Now it's back in the dealership to see if they can find the problem. This Journey has been a right pain in the hind end since I got it... sigh... Chrysler of course says it's up to the dealer to resolve the issue. Why do people (myself included) keep buying from a company that obviously does not give one red toot about it's products or customers? Well lesson learned for this boy... NEVER again will a Chrysler product darken my door... nor will it be a consideration for any fleet purchases at my company. GOOD JOB Chrysler on the quality of your wares...

Journey will not start at times. Must shut off all electronics and retry. Dealer replaced starter and reflashed the controller, however the vehicle still will not always start. Going back to the dealer for another look. If they don't get it fixed it will be traded in for a Ford or Chevy. replaced starter and reprogrammed control module

Drove vehicle from Toronto to London in the pouring rain. After turning off the vehicle, it would not restart. It didnt even make a noise when you turned the key, tried boosting it but nothing. After 4 hours, the engine would start but then it would not come out of park. Had the car towed to the dealership who said the computer located under the drivers side floor, was immersed in water and sensors needed to be replaced. Thank Goodness this was covered under the extended warranty I purchsed. But it still took 2 days to fix as they had to order the parts.

This is the second time this has happened. I drove the car in the rain from London to Toronto and the next day the vehicle would not start, it wouldn't even make a sound turning over but all the other electrical things worked. because I already had this problem I had it towed right away to the dealership (a different one than last time as I was in Toronto this time). The dealership said the computer was full of water and they could not fix it, that the vehicle should have been written off the last time and never should have been fixed. They stated that it will never run right again becasue of the water and they refused to fix it or honor the warrenty.

I called London (the last dealership that fixed it) and they said bring it in and they will fix it. How 2 different dealers say 2 totally different things is beyond me. I also called Chrysler Canada and reported it but they didn't really seem to care. Toronto dealership seemed to think that I had driven the vehicle through a large body of water. I asked if If they thought I was driving in swimming pools now.

No one has a clue what they are doing with this problem. Now I am taking the car to London to try and fix. I have already been without a vehicle for a week now and they refused to offer me a rental even though it is covered under my warranty. Toronto also claimed that this problem was not covered under warranty because I drove through a large body of water, London however said it is coverd. Go figure! I only drove on the 401.

Wife went to daycare to pick up kids. Loaded them in the car and it would not start. Not turning over - tried nuetral, wiggling the steering wheel, locking and unlocking the doors, etc. Went to pick her up in other car - 45minutes later. Scary problem especially when I am on road for work (out of cell phone range). Tried to start it for an hour, left it at the daycare, went back the next day and it started. Drove it right to the dealer. They asked if there was wifi or power lines nearby - which you think shouldn't matter! That could interfere with the key fob I guess.

Carefull with this car - it has had endless strange problems. Do your due diligence.
