Both left and right passenger sliding door locks can jam in the locked position making it impossible to open the door. This has happened randomly to each door with no known cause. This could be a serious safety problem if passengers cant egress in an emergency and it costs several hundred dollars to fix.

Driver side sliding door is stuck in lock position and cannot be manually or otherwise unlocked from the inside or outside. Just happened one day nothing specifically triggered the door to be stuck. The vehicle was stationary.

Ret'd from a week long trip into my driveway, ready to unload clothes, etc. Driver side sliding door would not activate, nor could I open it manually. Tried, tried, tried - both manually and with key fob & with button above dash, to no avail. In early am left military facility lodging in Indiana - no prob. Took to local hertrich dealer pocomoke city, md. Indicated 'actuator' at a cost of over $700. Decided to check recall possibility as a true safety problem if my great grand children were inside. Started copying all the 2019 complaints only to find out that out of 222 complaints the large majority are related to this problem. Surely Dodge should put out a recall. Sudden, unexpected, had bought 2016 Dodge as used car w/remaining warranty. Had to fix passenger side door while still under warranty because of a growling sound in mid 2017. Hertrich Dodge can provide those details. Yes, I want this covered, after seeing all the complaints just in 2019. Will inform my Dodge dealer re this complaint & await a recall surely! car has over 79K miles. At 81, don't need someone killed or injured on my watch because they cannot exit in an emergency! 7/2/19 - am lvg lodging fine; home in driveway it occurred.

June 14, 2019, while parked in my driveway, the right sliding door would not unlock. I tried both manually and electronically. The door is hopelessly locked. I went through this with the left sliding door in January, 2019.

While stationary, the left sliding failed to open. I tried both manually and with the key fob. That was repaired in January, 2019. June 14, 2019, the right sliding door failed to open, while the vehicle was parked. Again, the sliding door cannot be opened by any means. Both issues happened on my driveway.

problem #26

Grand Caravan

  • 46,000 miles
The driver side rear sliding door is unresponsive. The door doesn't open or close manually, with the power button, or with the key fob. All the other doors work as they are supposed to. When the button on the fob is pressed, the vehicle lights flash, acknowledging the command, however nothing happens. The vehicle was parked at my home, and while trying to load my infant children into their careers, we discovered the door was inoperable. The problem is not with a fuse, because the passenger slider is on the same fuse and works fine. I can't open the door to inspect the wiring harnesses; but it would have to be a poorly designed wiring harness or problem with the actuator. If my vehicle were in an accident, I would be unable to free my children from the vehicle.

The lock on the driver's side rear sliding door will not unlock. The door is stuck and will not open since the locking mechanism is stuck. It will not open manually or automatically. It causes a safety hazard due to the fact that if an accident or something happened, the door cannot be opened to let my children out.

While driving on an expressway (70mph) at night I heard a loud bang on the driver's window. I thought a bat or bird had hit the window. When I got home I saw that the noise was due to the exterior window molding on the driver's side flying off. Thankfully no one was right behind me.

My vehicles (2016 Dodge Grand Caravan)driver's side sliding door fails to open. It appears to be stuck in the lock position. The automatic door will not respond to the interior switch or the key fob and will not move from the lock position when trying to open manually. The vehicle was in a parked position when attempting to use the sliding door.

Grand Caravan

Door lock accuator failed causing driver side sliding door to be unable to be opened either remotely, by driver door switch or manual lever on door. This is a great safety hazard trapping someone in the car in the event of an emergency. The driver side failed 5/23/19. The passenger side failed last year but the dealer was able to cover the repair under warranty. The passenger side was able to open but not lock. Driver side sliding door can not open.

The driver's side sliding door is stuck in the locked position. It will bot open manually or with the key fob. The message says to unlock the door before attempting to open the door but it will bot open. This vehicle has less than 50K miles on it when the door got stuck. It is extremely inconvenient when a lot of people with vans have small children. There are numerous other complaints of the exact same issue online. I believe there is an issue with the sliding doors locking as well. The passenger side sliding door will open after being locked and the alarm will sound. This is bad because anyone can get into your car even with it locked. The locking mechanisms in these vans need to be recalled and fixed asap! thank you!

Having several issues with this vehicle. The one that has been apparent the longest is the rust bubbles along the edge of the hood under the paint. Passenger side sliding door lock is sticking. When locking using the key fob it makes a loud buzzing noise. This has been ongoing for six months or so. More recently the driver side door which was functioning flawlessly all of the sudden is stuck in a locked position and will not open. The manual lock on the inside of the door will not unlock. Almost as if it is jammed. Opened both side doors and everyone got in. Drove for 20 minutes and tried to drop off my passengers and the door would not open on the driver side. Are the motors defective" designed to break after warranty expires" videos on how to fix this issue appear to be quite involved and complex. Nearly impossible if the door cannot be opened.

Grand Caravan

  • 50,000 miles
The driver side sliding door failed with less than 50K miles on the vehicle. The lock is stuck and will not open electronically or manually. This prevents a safety issue if immediate egress is needed from the vehicle. The actuator on the passenger side of the vehicle started making loud buzzing noises as though it may fail shortly.

Grand Caravan 6-cyl

Two days ago, the driver side rear sliding door failed to unlock or open, either with the key fob or various buttons/handles. The passenger side door lock made a buzzing noise when it locked. Today, the passenger side sliding door stopped working. I took it to my mechanic. He said both locking mechanism motors were burned out at a cost to replace of $1900. The first door stopped working without warning, the second one made a buzzing sound for a day or two when locking or unlocking. There was no impact or rough road driving involved.

The passenger sliding door has locked shut. I am unable to open it at all. This occurred randomly, while my wife was by herself, 39 weeks pregnant with a small child and a toddler inside the vehicle.. I have researched this malfunction and it seems to happen often to this make (Dodge and Chrysler) minivan in the past several years. In my opinion, this seems like an extremely hazardous malfunction. I have a 4-year old, 2 year old, and a newborn all in carseats in the van. In the case of an emergency, and this door was unable to open, I would not be able to get all of my children out.

Not sure about the mileage as to when this happened (since I am not currently in my car) 1the car had been parked at home before attempting to unlock the door, when the sliding door (drivers side) made a "buzzing" sound and now the door won't unlock. We have tried to get the door open by manually moving the locking switch and it just doesn't move. We are currently only able to use the passengers side sliding door.
