Initailly battery light came on unexpectedly. 30 mins later while driving on the street, the car would no longer pull as if it had been shifted into neutral. Constantly shifting the car into neutral and back into drive I was able to pull onto a side street. I could hear a solid click when doing the shifting. Checked transmissin fluid and it was clean and at a good level. Battery light stayed on and eventually car would no longer start.

The tipm has gone bad in this van. The van will stall while driving and the fuel pump will stay running if you don't pull the fuse. This is a recall on only certain models made by Dodge but they are claiming it is not a problem with this van even though they are the same components. I now have to put out $1600 to repair something Chrysler will not accept responsibility. This vehicle is unsafe without the repair and Chrysler should do better.

This is the 6th time my van has died on me while driving it. I will be driving at any rate of speed and my van will just shut off. If I leave it sit for 45minites it will start back up. Today it died on me in the middle of an intersection with three kids in the car. We have taken it several places and no one seems to be able to help us. We have replaced the tipm. No check engine light is ever on when it happens

As many have stated, I had intermittent stalling. After taking it to an independent repair shop, they diagnosed it with having a faulty fuel relay and are putting in a bypass kit. Why wasn't the recall expanded to included the minivans by Chrysler? the recall for this specific device failing was done for durango's and Cherokee. $700 repair because the minivans were not included in the recall despite it being the same engine as the durango...

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after several attempts. The vehicle had to be jumpstarted. The contact purchased a new battery, but the vehicle failed to start. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the fuel pump relay failed and needed replacement. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

The vehicle intermittently experiences interruption to fuel delivery (?) on the street, highway, and freeway at various speeds. This typically happens when accelerating. The van will be accelerating smoothly and then, suddenly, lose power and act like it is going to stall completely. It will cough and lurch and then resume accelerating. On three occasions it has stopped accelerating entirely, forcing my son and I to coast to the side of the road, during rush hour traffic, without power steering or brakes, and wait until it is ready to resume acceleration. The fuel pump was tested and is fully functional, and the transmission was replaced a year ago. Additionally, during the time periods when it is exhibiting this behavior, it also fails to start on the first attempt. The ignition will crank continuously, the battery has power, but the engine will not engage. This has been a temporary/intermittent issue that would 'vanish' on repeated attempts. Today it will not start at all, leaving us stranded once again. The last time it refused to start entirely we were at a rest area in northern Arizona in 124 degree heat for hours. This is incredibly dangerous and mechanics have told me that it is known to be the tipm, which is faulty. If this part is known to be faulty, why is it not recalled?

The car engine stopped working while I was driving in the road. Then it would start after I crank the key. I also noted that some days it would not start when cold. Contacted dealer and they said if the engine light is not one they can't diagnose the problem. After searching the internet it looks like my car has a fuel pump relay issue/timp. We don't feel safe driving the car as it was very scary to stop without warning in the road or hwy. This issue happened before about 6 month ago and the dealer changed the transmission torque. The latest happened last week

Vehicle would not start, took to garage they said fuel pump, still would not work, took back they said tipm, had it changed, got van back now the signal lights don't work took back they test it and guess what tipm again, so now after nearly 3000 in repairs and 800 in rentals I am waiting another week for another tipm not impressed at all. After researching this issue it is far to common and should be made a full recall, I know of four failures in the last week in my little area alone. Something needs to be done, this problem can affect any component of the vehicle from brakes to air bags to anything that is run by a fuse which is pretty much everything, someone is going to be seriously injured because of this if there hasn't been already.

Grand Caravan

  • 55,000 miles
The first occurrence was when I was driving on an interstate, about 65 mph, when the engine abruptly stalled. I changed several lanes onto the shoulder and call a tow truck, but before it arrived, it was able to start again, after ~30 minutes. This same behavior has happened 4 more times (total of 5 times in a year, or about 15K miles), sometimes weeks apart, sometimes months. The other occasions were slower, 25-40 mph. The Dodge dealership was unhelpful diagnosing the problem, as all systems appear fine until the problem appears, which they unsurprisingly could not provoke. On each occasion, when we try to start the car again, it sounds as if it has no fuel, but after ~30 min. Of sitting, it starts again and drives just fine. It is very unnerving to always have to consider that the car may simply stall, this is absolutely a safety concern. Currently I plan to replace the tipm module, as it seems to have been a source of problems on many Chrysler models. I will just cross my fingers that it doesn't happen again.

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to dayton andrews Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (2388 gulf to bay blvd, clearwater, fl 33765, (727) 799-4539) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump relay failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

Tipm faulty in our 2013 Dodge Caravan with 54000 miles. Van will not start..the fuel pump relay dangerously allows the fuel pump to continue even after van is shut off. These were recalled on thousands but only until 2012. Bought the van with 2 miles off showroom floor, never again will buy a Dodge.. customer service says we are out of the crappy 36,000 mile warranty and conveniently..this seems to happen after 45,000 miles in the Dodge.

When accelerator depressed RPM's would go to 4 or 5, but car wasn't getting much power. Pretty quickly RPM's started going to 6 and 7 with even less power. Stopped driving the car and had it towed to the nearest dealership. Was told the powertrain was still under warranty and it sounded like a transmission problem. When dealership called back they stated a part called a tipm needed to be replaced and the part is on back order with no estimated time of arrival. $925 for the part plus labor. What am I supposed to do until the part comes in, they said it could be 3 days or 3 months, no one knows.

After fueling van completely the engine stalls numerous time until the fuel gauge drops down about 1/8th below the full mark. This has actually happened many times in the last six to eight months and it always happens right after fueling to completely full. This happened most recently in a busy intersection with an elderly lady in the back.

On July 20, 2014, we filled up the van and traveled approx 120 miles out of town. Later in the afternoon, when trying to pull forward from a dead stop at red light, the van stalled. After 3 attempts, we were able to get to the side of the road. Turned off the car and waited a few moments. We were able to proceed with no problems. Took the van to the dealership the next week and were told that we probably had water in the fuel. The same thing has happened approximately 6-8 more times in the last 2 months. The most recent was Friday, September 5, 2014. I filled up late in the morning. The van stalled twice later in the afternoon when trying to pull out from stop signs.

My wife was driving early morning, while entering the freeway, she accelerated and crossed lanes. When she removed her foot from the accelerator, the van kept accelerating. She was between two semi trucks so she tapped the brakes and started hitting the cruise control buttons. The van kept accelerating. She was able to change lanes towards the berm and started to apply the brakes. She reached a speed of about 85 mph. As she was braking, the engine was still trying to accelerate. She was able to pull the van off the road and eventually was able to stop the vehicle and turned the ignition off. There was smoke coming from the brakes from the forced stop. Restarting the van after a few minutes, she proceeded safely to work. After rethinking the situation, she contacted Dodge and had the vehicle towed to the dealership. They tested the van and found no codes in the computer. The following week, a technician test drove the van and it accelerated uncontrollably also. He wrote that the pedal was not stuck. He put the van in neutral twice and turned the key off, and restarted the van and the RPM's were at 4,000. He then pulled off the road. He waited a while and then restarted the van and it ran normal. The technician did state that there were some codes (C212A, B192D, & B18A8) the dealer contacted Chrysler Corp. And they sent a technicians out to investigate.
