CarComplaints.com Notes: The second generation Durango was introduced in 2004 and instantly came under fire for, well, catching on fire.

From 2004-2006 electrical overloading in the driver's side instrument panel caused numerous reports of interior fires. The interior infernos became so commonplace that Chrysler eventually issued a recall.

The problems didn't stop there, however. Owners of the recalled vehicles complained about being treated unfairly and given take-it-or-leave-it low ball settlement offers. "They offered me $2000 under NADA retail as a settlement," said one owner, "and have been rude and hostile to deal with." Nothing says awesome service like treating your customers rudely after their cars have already caught on fire.

The same as everyone else!!!!!!!!! The things is stalling every time I come to a stop, or turn. It also stalled on the interstate in 5:00 rush hour traffic as I slowed in traffic. I am afraid for my children to ride with me. It has also done this with my husband driving and he was turning across oncoming traffic. Someone is going to get killed and then Dodge is going to have problems on there hands.

I have also had problems while entering on to the interstate so it is not just an in town problem. This is becoming very annoying, it is happening almost every single day now and 3-4 times a day. Yesterday it did it on a hill at a stop sign and I started rolling back and almost hit the person behind me. How would you explain your vehicle is a piece of junk to someone and that is why you rolled back into them!!!!!! I can not believe that Dodge has closed the recall and not bothered to look into this further with as many complaints as people are having.

WOW. Same here. We were told it was the ETS Valve by the local mechanic. Then we needed brakes (we were told the same day). Now, a few days later, our engine ticks when trying to start- I'm thinking it's the battery now. When will it end? We're stressed...and after spending $800 in one day on this car, combined with another battery (I'm sure now) for a car that only has 37,800 miles on it, I'm not only sickened, I'm upset.

I own a 2005 Dodge Durango, it began stalling 1 1/2 ago. While driving in hot weather with the AC on, it stalled turning into a parking lot. It happened 3 more times that Summer, I took it in to the Dealer, paid the $100 for the diagnostic test....they found no error codes. Unless it happened when they drove it, they couldn't help me. The past Summer it stalled 8 times while coming to a stop or slowing to make a turn. It happened also in the middle of an intersection while I was out of State. Again took it back to the Dealer, this time I fought to not pay for the $100, I forced them to keep it over the weekend to have a tech drive it. Of course they had no error codes and it didn't stall for them. However when I drove home it stalled on me. My battery died and had it towed and replaced, on the drive home it stalled again. I went 3 months with no stalling until the past weekend, it happened 6 times, 3 times while on the Freeway. I took my vehicle in today, nothing again, I was told to contact Chrysler. I am afraid to drive my own car, which I own free and clear. I can't buy another, that's why I paid it off. I drive children everyday, and with the stalling on the Freeway I am just waiting to be hit. Has anyone contacted an Attorney for a class action suit???

The car has stalled (while driving) a couple of times. And usually when slowing down on a turn or coming up to a light. Thank god no one got hurt and didn't cause an accident. Once stalled while my son, a new driver was behind the wheel. Told the dealer about the problem when I brought it in for the tune up and oil changes. Of course they can't duplicate the problem...Make sure when you talk to the dealer they make notes on the cars records, get them to print them out and take the hard copy, otherwise there is no backup on your complaints.

I have a piece of sh*t 2005 Dodge Durango. I have been back and forth with that car, i don't know how many times. I think they have replaced every sensor they can think of in that crap car. The dealership can't no figure out the problem. They even plugged in that black "computer" thing..i forgot the name. But you have to push the button everytime it stalls or shuts down. Even with that, the dealership can't figure it out. This is DEFINITELY a recall. But of course, Chrysler Dodge doesn't want to lose anymore money. Thank GOD i bought the extended warranty. I even tried the Lemon Law Lawyers and they were worthless. They said it was over the Lemon Law mileage. Whatever, the problem started before that. I just don't know what to do anymore. I commute everyday with my two kids and it's a very scary feeling each time i get in that car. It mainly shuts off when I'm going to brake or go into reverse or even have it parking. The RPM meter starts going crazy, up and down and then it shuts off. I was never a big fan of Dodge but my husband convinced me gave Dodge the benefit of the doubt. Was I TOTALLY right about Dodge. They SUCK! I will tell everyone I know not to buy a Dodge. God Bless the families and everyone that drive in these dangerous vehicles everyday.

2005 DODGE DURANGO -- ENGINE STALLING stalling incidents have the following characteristics: - they occur at low speeds, often during parking lot ordriveway maneuvers; - they occur during decelerations, such as braking for a stop sign or traffic signal; able to immediately restart the vehicle.... Stalling during low-speed deceleration...I know that there was an investigation in May of 2005 for this problem and was closed in Nov 2005 with no recall this is a very dangerous situation......... I am so fed up. I have been battling with Dodge for almost two years over this. I purchased the vehicle in November of 2005. It was brand new on 2 miles on it. I drove fine for a month then it started shutting off. I took it back and the dealership said they could find anything. That they test drove it and it was fine. I tried to trade it for something else but they gave me a hard time and said if it did it again they would see what they could do. Well, it's two years later and the damn truck is still shutting off. I got a lemon lawyer, that was a joke, and lost!!! Daimler Chrysler had their mechanic come out a week before the hearing and reset the computer. When the vehicle didn't shut off any more, they said they fixed the problem and I lost the case. Well here it is a year later and the truck has started shutting off again. The warranty has expired and now I'm stuck trying to fix a lemon of a truck with a hugh car note. This is not right. Something need to be done. LET'S START A CLASS ACTION SUIT!!!!!!

When shifting from reverse to drive after backing out of the garage or parking stall, the engine would die/stall. I had to shift it back to park, and try to start the engine again. It would not start unless I had the gas pedal pressed. This happened sporadically and of course the dealership could not duplicate the problem. I was told to have the spark plugs replaced and to have the throttle body cleaned out. After having both of these done, the problem occurred again the same night!! I still have not come to a solution, and this is a very embarrassing and frustrating problem!!!

OK, I am getting really aggravated with my Durango which I do love by the way. It stalls (dies) and or tries to everyday!!!! I have to let it warm up..... it is 75 degrees here, and it doesn't do it as bad. It tries to die when I am coming to a stop, unless i baby it and stop very slowly. It also idles very low, 400 RPM. It is getting horrible gas mileage. It use to get about 18 MPG and now it gets 13. The RPM's bounce around when I am stopping or slowing down and it idles very rough. I took it to the dealer because it is still under warranty, they say that they could not duplicate the problem. I am going to take it back again and tell them to fix it or shove it up their a**. My mom had a 2005 Dadge Ram that had ALMOST THE IDENTICAL symptoms, her problem was fixed with replacing the EGR valve, but the dealer tells me that this is not the problem with mine. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After my truck stalling without warning almost rolling back and hitting someone Took it back where i got it, they shipped it to dodge and finally after having it 1 1/2 weeks they replaced a solenoid in the transmission, they said it was acting like its a manual transmission instead of a automatic,, which when applied brakes it would look for the clutch which i didn't have.. Working good now lets hope it stays this way.. they also filled transmission fluid said it was low and that could be another reason.,.. But hope this helps someone else with this problem

My Durango stalls when we make sharp turns. It just goes dead and we have to put it in park and restart. I have no power steering, nothing! This could be very dangerous even deadly. I have two children and I'm very worried about this. My truck is out of warranty, of course, so I know when I take it to the dealership it's going to cost. So far the truck has done this twice. Has anyone had there's fixed with no other stalls?

The 2005 Durango dies during acceleration or highway speed with no warning and will not start until completely stopped. Sets no codes. This can be dangerous because it will do it when you are merging onto the interstate or something and suddenly you are causing all sorts of problems.

Durango SLT 5.7L V8

After numerous trips in for the random stalling over 7 months, they determined at the end of December that the transmission needed to be replaced. This was done and completed the beginning of January and it has been 2 months since the vehicle has randomly stalled. My husband drives the vehicle and is not completely convinced that this has resolved the issue, BUT it has not stalled and it had gotten to where it would stall everyday at least once.

Update from Dec 18, 2009: Just to update...since the transmission was replaced there have been no more problems with the vehicle stalling.

Tonight I was driving home from the mall going about 35 and my Durango randomly STALLED in the middle of the road! I was able to pull into a WalMart, turn it off and restart it and get home. Once I got home, calmed down, I drove to AutoZone and had the battery and alternator tested. Both tested FINE! They were completely confused as to why it could have happened. I was able to get home just fine without any sign of the issue again. I am scared to drive it but due to the warranty being over I have no choice! Seems this should be a RECALL!!!

My 2005 Durango has stalled without warning several times. Each time it was either stopped or slowing to a stop. I had to have it towed to the dealership one of the times because it the engine wouldn't stay running for more than 10 seconds. The steering wheel locks up when this happens. I am terrified that I'm going to be traveling on a highway or curvy road when this happens, or crossing over a busy street. It has been to the dealership 3 times about this and they tell me that nothing appears to be wrong with the car. Now I know from looking on here I am not the only one with this problem. There needs to be a recall about this before someone gets killed.

This problem has been occurring on a regular basis for the last 2 months, before that is was intermittent. The SUV stalls when you are braking, mostly this happens when we are coming to a stop at a light or parking. It was at the dealer for the second time yesterday, they have cleaned the throttle body (in May), flushed the fuel injection system and replaced the battery. We picked it up last night and it did the same thing in front of the dealership when my husband was driving. But yet they have not been able to duplicate the problem.
